A very good article

Posted: Oct 5, 2013

This is not the whole article. Go to the link.....it also reports on Harry Reid's answer to the reporter about NIH and the children with cancer. So disgusting. Yesterday, the House introducted 6 CRs to open the government. Anyone want to take any bets on those CRs being tabled by Mr. Reid?

The games politicians play: Barack Obama is having a lot of fun using the government shutdown to squeeze the public in imaginative ways. The point of the shutdown game is to see who can squeeze hardest, make the most pious speech and listen for the applause. It’s a variation on the grade-school ritual of “you show me yours, and I’ll show you mine.”

President Obama is not a bad poker player, but the man with all the chips always starts with the advantage (and he gets all the aces). He has closed Washington down as tight as he dares, emphasizing the trivial and the petty in making life as inconvenient as he can for the greatest number. It’s all in a noble cause, of course. Access to most of the memorials is limited, and often in curious ways. The Lincoln Memorial is easy to reach, with the streets around it remaining open. But the Martin Luther King Memorial is made difficult to reach, relegating it, you might say, to the back of the bus. Not very nice.

The Park Service appears to be closing streets on mere whim and caprice. The rangers even closed the parking lot at Mount Vernon, where the plantation home of George Washington is a favorite tourist destination. That was after they barred the new World War II Memorial on the Mall to veterans of World War II. But the government does not own Mount Vernon; it is privately owned by the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association. The ladies bought it years ago to preserve it as a national memorial. The feds closed access to the parking lots this week, even though the lots are jointly owned with the Mount Vernon ladies. The rangers are from the government, and they’re only here to help.

“It’s a cheap way to deal with the situation,” an angry Park Service ranger in Washington says of the harassment. “We’ve been told to make life as difficult for people as we can. It’s disgusting.”

EVERYONE knows it's the TEA PARTY behind this! They clearly, vocally stated long ago that this was their goal--to shut down the government. You obviously weren't paying attention as you've surrounding yourself within the right-wing bubble. I listen to their words and study--watch CSPAN, etc.

Geez,. About a month ago, the Washington Times - Truthhurts

was held in high regard by the liberal Democrats on this board.

Guess the article doesn't trash the Republicans or the Tea Party, huh? Guess that's why you call it right wing.

"The Washington Times is a full-service, general interest daily newspaper in the nation's capital. Founded in 1982, The Washington Times is one of the most-often-quoted newspapers in the U.S. It has gained a reputation for hard-hitting investigative reporting and thorough coverage of politics and policy. Published by The Washington Times LLC, The Washington Times is "America's Newspaper."

GOP cuts eliminated more than - 700 NIH grants ($1.7 billion)

[ In Reply To ..]

in sequester cuts they seem to have decided they really love after all.  You can find evidence of that in the Ryan budget, whose kamikazi assaults on non-discretionary spending led to this 5.1% NIH cut for 2013 alongside a 10% CUT PLANNED FOR 2014. Where was all their compassion and concern over kids with cancer then? Where will it be again next year?  BTW, similar slash-and-burn antics leveled deep-pocket cuts to Head Start that so far has kept 57,000 kids out of that program this year. Their proposals to cut WIC by 10%, defunding between 325,000 and 475,000 qualified pregnant women and children, are also a matter of record.  These FACTS tend to undermine any limp attempts to convince the American public they have suddenly developed a conscience.  That wingers think they can score Brownie points with their hollow legislative non-starters is simply an insult to the collective American voter's intelligence.

Regardless of how many times different republicants post this propaganda, they will never succeed in putting those words in Harry Reid's mouth.  We went through this yesterday and again this morning.  He never said anything about children with cancer.  He just refused to play help Dana Banks play PR games for the GOP.  Feel free to post the video again and show us the time stamp where those statements were made, by all means.

Lest we forget, the sequester came to pass in the wake of ANOTHER phoney crisis the GOP created and inflicted on the rest of us last time they threw a fit over the debt ceiling, took us to the brink of the fiscal cliff and managed to get our nation's credit rating downgraded.  The chickens have come home to roost AGAIN.  The GOP and their winger, fringer, TP and all other flavors of extremist base have no place to hide.

Maybe you would have learned something. I know I did and it wasn't too good for the Dems.

No matter how much you hate him this is a good article.  Cut him down all you want but it won't change the truth. Here's a quote from the article: Mr. Bush said that "the role of government is not to create wealth, but to create the conditions that allow entrepreneurs and innovators to thrive." I wish it was someone else who has said this because a lot of people sole purpose is hating and cutting him down, which diminishes from the importance of the article.   http://www ...

Excellent article.  Doesn't CNN and others like Bruce Spinksteen (who cannot even carry a tune), Martin Sheen and all their other ilk realize how absolutely ridiculous they sound.  I never could stand Springsteen.  Never liked his music and his voice would make my fillings rattle, but when they think because they've sold records or movies that they think they know more than the American people who happen to be involved in politics and research information, that's wh ...

This article is dated 5/24 and I don't see anything here regarding it.  I just read it and thought it was a pretty good analysis.  I do think campaigning against Bush is a wrong move.  Especially for someone who keeps claiming to be a forward thinker.  I've never heard this administration take blame for any of the decisions they are making.  Just whenever something they do backfires, their solution is to blame Bush.  I think Americans are smart enough and ...

interesting points.  The article is about the ban.  It seems to me that the president should continue, as both Bush and Obama did, on putting new and adventagious things in the vetting process.  We can always improve on things but an all-out ban to me is not adventagious.
