These are lovely little white bumps under the skin that look like whiteheads, but are actually composed mainly of keratin so they're very hard and incompressible. They kind of look and feel like bird seed. I started getting these all over my face and neck about year into menopause. While it's not the worst thing in the world to happen to someone, I thought menopause would be the end of acne and the beginning of somewhat smoother (albeit a bit more wrinkled) skin. My new secret nickname for myself is Pebbles.
My dermatologist told me he can use electrodesiccation to flatten them out. We did try that on a few, and the surface of the skin is smooth, but the white spots remain. However, there are so many, I don't know if electrodesiccation is going to be feasible financially. He charges $150 to remove 15 milia. Milia are not actually within the pores, but form in the skin tissue, so no squeezing them out.
Anyone have success with a different treatment?
Thanks for any ideas.
