Favorite Doll as a Kid, or Grownup!

Posted: Sep 24, 2012

Well, looks like nobody has many birthday surprises, but we got on a doll subject. What was/is your favorite doll? I don't play with my dolls anymore, but I still love them. One of my favoriters was a Tressy Doll. I loved her because she had hair you could pull hair up and out of the middle of her head and style it. Not sure where she ever ended up. I probably pulled it so much it fell out.

Do barbie dolls count? - if so...

I was totally hooked on the Six Million Dollar Man and Bionic Woman dolls as a kid. I had a car, a rocket, the lab, and Oscar and the exploding suitcase also. LOVED IT. I also used to think I had a bionic eye! :)

Dont know whatever happened to them. Im sure my mom gave them away. :(

Tiny Tears! "She Cries Real Tears" - Bindi

[ In Reply To ..]
I loved my Tiny Tears doll. In the late 1950s, she came with a layette that included a glass baby bottle, a small bar of Ivory soap, a pacifier, etc. I still remember climbing up on top of the washer and dragging down my Christmas present from its hiding place in the cupboard, unwrapping it, oohing and ah'g over Tiny, wrapping her all back up and stuffing it back on the top shelf. I thought I was so clever.

Posin' Pete & his friend, Pal. Bendable boy doll with his horse w/ - removable tack. Size of young bro of Barbie. sm

And we had a babysitter who would sit and make clothes for Barbie and Pete. She even made him a cowboy hat out of gray felt. Wonderful memories.

Kissy Doll- See Msg - Doll-Lady

I had a girlfriend whose favorite doll was the Kissy Doll. Doll stood the size of a 5-year-old. One night, the mother gets out of bed and sees who she thinks is her daughter standing in the hallway. She says, "get back to bed." Turns out, it was the lifesize doll.

Patty Play Pal. She was a life-size 5-year-old - and one other (sm)

There was another doll with a name I cannot remember, but she was soft like a stuffed animal and also life-size. She had elastic bands on her feet that you slipped over your feet, and then you could dance with her.

My dad used to dance with me standing on his toes, too. made me laugh so hard.

I remember Tressy Dolls!! And those cute big-eyed, pot-bellied Troll Dolls with the fuzzy hair in wild colors.

How about celebrity dolls? Cher, Farrah... - Bindi

[ In Reply To ..]
and other dolls from the 70s. I remember Cher's vibrant pink halter top dress and Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones complete with little "leather" whip. One of my friends was particularly attached to my Harrison Ford doll.

Celebrity Dolls - Hmmm

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm older than you. I think in "our day," doll-playing days of 50s-early 60s, they didn't have celebrity dolls that I know of. Though, let me know if I'm wrong. I know I didn't have one, but then, my parents are probably the type that would let me have a celebrity doll, anyway.

How about Shirley Temple, the ultimate celebrity doll? - Bindi

[ In Reply To ..]
I think we are close in age. In 1957 I had a Shirley Temple doll. Of course, then she wasn't referred to as a "celebrity doll." That designation came later with the Cher dolls and TV personality dolls. As a doll fanatic, I've read about Jane Withers dolls (late 1930s), Margaret O'Brien dolls (1940s)which would be considered celebrity dolls. Loved my Shirley doll!
Weren't the Dion quint dolls even before Shirley? - But this is a tad before my time. nm

I had to google it. The quints were born in May 1934 and the first Shirley doll came out that same year.
Thanks, didn't think of those - nm

one is Lucy grape-stompin' and the other is the Chololate Factory line worker scene.

Remember Madge, Barbie's friend, with the freckles - across her nose. My sis looked like her kinda. nm

Muffy Doll - But...

[ In Reply To ..]
...I'm not sure if that was her "real" name or I named her. Muffy broke her arm and I don't know what happened after that. Haven't seen her in years. I thought they were going to bring her to the doll hospital, but I recall seeing her 15 years ago (I'm 57) with her arm still broken. I'll have to ask my siblings if they've seen her, my parents have since passed.

I loved Tressy! : ) - nm

I've discovered the very best coffeemaker I've ever had - and I have a few. It's dirt cheap (around $20), and has fantastic reviews all over the internet. It's plastic and similar to a French press, but the coffee's better - very smooth, not at all bitter. It's the Aeropress! ...

Least Favorite Christmas Music?Dec 02, 2011
I have to admit I can't stand the "Christmas Shoes" song.  I have a high tolerance for schmalz, but that's over the top for me.  I change the radio station when that comes on.    I'm sorta on the fence about "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas".  It's kind of cute, but it has the disadvantage of sticking in my head and I end up singing it the rest of the day! Anyone else? ...

Favorite Smoothie Recipe/sApr 18, 2013
We talk a lot about weight issues and nutrition here.  I have gotten myself on a pretty healthy lifestyle now, and one of my favorite things I make for a meal now is a smoothie. You don't need any fancy equipment. If you have a decent plain old blender, that will do just fine. Throw a few ice cubes into the blender (always put frozens in first, then any solids in before liquids). I then take whatever fruit I have on hand (berries, bananas, peaches) and throw some chunks of that i ...
