The reserve policeman in OK who shot

I cannot believe he was charged with 2nd degree manslaught, pled not guilty and they are letting him leave the country on vacation. What motive does he have to return? Do you suppose he has moved his money off shore yet. Even if he is not convicted there will surely be a civil suit by the family.

BIG accident. The treatment of the wounded suspect wasn't too great either.

Did you see any of this, the taser is carried up in the a pocket in the chest area and the revolver on his hip towards the back. Maybe he was just having a senior moment?

Regardless, he must be held responsible.
Frankly, I think the OK Police Department needs to be held responsible for putting him out there armed. What were they thinking?

I thought he and other cops stood around and yelled (not the right word I read, berated? chastised?) at the guy while he died.

Does a taser look like a revolver? They get SO excited.

Tulsa issued a news story a while back that they were not having another class of cops or firemen at their academy because they couldn't afford to hire them if they graduated. Maybe Tulsa will be using Explorers next. I thought the BOK Center was going to save Tulsa?

I didn't know a reserve cop makes that much money (to vacay out of country). Gov. Fallin just gave a tax break to people who have 418,000 and above annual income. and the other top earners, too. but they already don't pay most of the taxes in oklahoma that fund the budget, it's the people who earn less than 18,000 a year. next is the 33,000 to 18,000, and then the 53,000 to 33,000 (decreasing as you go). these 3 groups pay almost 60% of the taxes collected,the 89,000 to 53,000 crowd picks up 20%, with the very poorest coming in the highest at 10.5% of their income going to the state/city; 418,000 crowd drops to 4.1%.

according to a paper by the Kaiser Foundation,, back in 2004 oklahoma (a state who didn't expand Medicaid, just like like Kan'sas), for every dollar they spend on Medicaid the feds given them 2.33. I was looking for more recent info but I think 74% is as high as the feds go. So, when oklahoma cuts spending for healthcare for the poor (and they do), the poor (and oklahoma's healthcare system) lose not 1 dollar but 3.33). I bet doctors and hospitals hate that. Has to drop the census. Most of the 33,000 to 18,000 and below, say 0, don't have insurance, that's 40% of the tax base.

FYI, in 2015 418,000 above is expected to be taxed at 4.1% while the poor will stay at 5.25% state (but add local taxes and it becomes a larger chunk of your income). It's not as good as no income tax but it might be one of the best rates around. Oklahoma and Kansas are working on getting rid of income tax altogether. Florida is no income tax, but that may change, they just raised their property tax like crazy and as ahem *cough* The-term-that-shall-not-be-named becomes more evident property values will TANK! ooops. Enter the income tax?

He was a "pay to play" cop. Not really Reservist, in the sense of paid to be on reserve, or on-call.

He, himself, stated the taser is kept on the front of the chest and revolver on the hip. He looks old, and probably got excited and confused.

I believe, he shouted "taser, taser" before he shot him.

He is rich by other means and could afford his vacation. Strange part is they let him go. I would think he might be old enough he might not come back.

And this is the one (there are so many incidents at this point it is getting confusing), where the policeman (not the guy who shot him) has his knee on the guy's upper back/neck are and says "EXPLETIVE--your breath," when they guy complained he couldn't breathe after having been shot.

He has posted bail and has received permission to go on vacation while awaiting arraignment. The court has evidently assessed that he poses no flight risk.

I certainly expect appropriate charges to be brought when he returns. It's hard for me to understand why reserve officers would even be allowed to use force of any kind, deadly or otherwise, and I hope the police department will be called to account for this.
