A community of 30,000 US Transcriptionist serving Medical Transcription Industry
So, I've been obsessing over what's going on in Japan because my sister-in-law's family live about 200 miles from where the big stuff happened and we're worried. I found an interesting and informative news article about the radiation cloud already having reached California and a real-time map showing the progression of the cloud. It was just kind of a FYI thing, mostly for my sake, but since the rest of my family is following the news too, we have another tool to access.
I got a "comment" from one of my husband's co-workers scolding me, telling me that I shouldn't try to "scare" people into believing that the US is in any danger of fallout, and that "apparently I don't realize that radiation is everywhere, in our cell phones, microwaves, x-rays, hospitals and that it is a post that will just "cause panic" to people who don't know any better". (!!!)
I know I'm not a nuclear scientist, just a lowly transcriptionist, but really??? I am genuinely concerned about what could happen long-term to the people near the reactor, and what, if any, harm can come from yet another nuclear plant spilling radiation into our environment! That ninny apparently does not realize or care that there are different kinds of radiations, but to scold me and so boldly exercise her ignorance just got be peeved.
I deleted her commend, then she sent me a text asking why. I decided to go ahead and call her just to explain my posting (though I didn't need to), but she is apparently in a fighting mood and practically demanded that I tell her the differences in radiations and wanted to know "what made me an expert" and blah blah blah. I don't know what bug crawled up her... ear, but whatever! A bit later she re-posted her original comment, I deleted it again and now she has "unfriended me", sent me another text telling me I've humiliated her. I just don't know what to think except she's a loon!
Hope she doesn't give hubby an earful at work! Isn't this just nuts??
