My dog is missing...

We have an 8 y/o dog named Spike who never leaves our 3 acres. Ever. He just is a homebody. Lately, a red pit bull female has been coming up in our pasture to see him. Now, we haven't seen him since Saturday night. The pit bull is back at home, 2 doors down, and her owner says he hasn't seen Spikey. We weren't home yesterday morning and our other neighbors said they heard gunshots at the pit bull's house. I'm sure hoping he didn't shoot my baby. Just needed to tell somebody... :(

I bet their dog attacked yours and they shot him to put him out of his misery and didn't want to pay vet bills. I would be searching their yard and even call the police to report the gun shots heard at their house and have them investigate.

Thanks for your note. We have been down to their yard and didn't see anything. Unfortunately, gunshots in this county are the norm. We are out in the boonies. Still hoping he shows up... Thanks for your thoughts!!

Gunshots are common in my area, too, even though homes are relatively close together. My previous lab mix would panic if a shot or firework was too close. Early on, he bolted from my yard, across a pasture, ending up about a mile away. Nice people put him in their fenced yard but, as they were on their way to work and then came home late, it took a couple days for them to track me down via the rabies tag. So, don't give up hope.

If he wasn't, he probably went over to see the female pit bull if she was in heat. The owner could have seen him mating with his PB and shot him. Of course, he would not tell you if he did.

Our dog went missing. We found her in a rock pile where a rock had fallen and pinned her head in a hole. She was dehydrated, dirty, and her head was swollen to the point where we almost did not recognize her, but she recovered.

A neighbor's dog disappeared and they were calling looking for it. They said someone had told them my St. Bernard had "kidnapped" it. Their dog did occasionally run off with mine--they were buddies. We once found them several miles from home. I would not jump to conclusions that the neighbor's were involved.

We put up woven wire fencing with a line at the top that was electrified. Then we ran an "invisible fence" line across the driveway. Out dog never srayed from home again.

I have listened to commentators, lawyers and jurors in Casey Anthony case and I am unable to understand how if a child goes missing and it is not reported this is not abuse.
