Lady came by today to apply for house cleaning ad
Posted: Jul 20, 2015
she ate several Jolly Rancher candies while here and for some reason just had second thoughts about that. Just looked up drugs and perhaps relating to Jolly Ranchers. Does anyone with more knowledge about this able to fill me in?
Before people start talking about our salaries and affording house cleaning, only 2 days per month and some health issues keep me from doing it all.;
Umm, I might be missing the point ... issue with her - eating your candy? Her candy?
[ In Reply To ..]
Or was it just her choice of candy?
Last time I checked, eating candy was not a sign of drug abuse. If it was, then some pretty high up folks at my facility are in trouble, because there is a bowl of Jolly Ranchers on the table in their conference room.
The only thing I found googling was some recipe for cough syrup and Sprite, flavored with Jolly Ranchers. I would hate to have to start showing ID and signing for hard candy.
I doubt if snacking on the candy itself indicates anything more than maybe she was hungry.
hungry or nervous, maybe. I think its really unprofessional - but lets face it. If you are cleaning houses
[ In Reply To ..]
You really aren't that bright to start with. I admit it is off putting that she is eating at all but during an interview but consider the job you are hiring her for. She's not going to be your nanny. She's scrubbing toilets.
This post is so completely offensive! Who died and made you - Bravo
[ In Reply To ..]
Queen of England? Deciding that anyone cleaning houses "aren't that bright to start with"? I'm curious do you hear yourself or read your posts before clicking submit?
And quite frankly the OP's original and her subsequent responses have been pretty offensive as well. Why even share this entire episode here? So that you can show us how smart and intuitive you are? In your first post, she was eating Jolly Ranchers. Then in the next post, she was squirmy. The next post, you checked her arms for needle marks. And finally you hit us with "she's on Seroquel" which by the way you, an MT, had to look up before realizing it was a psych med. Then you publically patted yourself on the back for being Sherlock Holmes in the mystery of the meth addicted housekeeper. Finally, when you weren't getting the responses you'd hoped, you come back with "she said she was looking for a new PCP."
This was a very simple situation. You didn't feel comfortable with this person, so don't hire her. We really didn't need the whole song and dance, but hey whatever entertains you. Just so we can close the curtain on this little act, I'll go ahead and give you what you're looking for...
"Gosh, you are so smart. The way you figured her out, reading all those clues - the candy, the squirminess, the Seroquel, the doctor shopping. She totally was a drug addict and you're lucky you didn't get murdered and robbed. I wish I was as observant as you."
You act like I care that you are offended - Queen of England
[ In Reply To ..]
Lions do not lose sleep over the opinions of sheep.
Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. - Bravo
[ In Reply To ..]
You'll be asking those sheep to care about you on your way down...
Oh you care. Why else would you post on this forum - Come on!
[ In Reply To ..]
and invite people to comment... you needed affirmation, attention or whatever. Don't ask for opinions and then get your blood up when you don't like what you hear. You're a child.
To be clear I was not the OP - Queen of England
[ In Reply To ..]
I repeat. I don't care what you think
And I repeat, then why post at all? - Come On!
[ In Reply To ..]
And you're a queen all right, just not of England.
Sometimes I post for opinions. Sometimes I post for fun. - Come On!
[ In Reply To ..]
Sometimes a post irks me or offends me and I want to respond. Sometimes I'm bored and just want to spice my day up.
Did that answer your question? Again, I ask why do you post here or the Queen of England post here? (If you are two different people that is)

I have a weekly housekeeper (I was in an accident two years ago and seriously injured, so need a little help.) Anyway, I have always told my housekeeper to feel free to help herself to anything in the fridge she might like and I keep her favorite kind of soft drink stocked and cold. I don't get the problem with someone eating Jolly Rancher. I eat Junior Mints. So what? I mean, come on, the woman is going to be cleaning your house. Can't you be a little kind to her? And as to the comments about being not too bright, I find that offensive. My housekeeper used to be a CPA, but found that really constricting, decided she would rather make a lot less money and have a stress-free job. She has been with me for quite a while, I consider her like family and would be quite insulted if someone spoke about her the way you are speaking about this woman applying for the job. How about a little Golden Rule here, folks?
Her candy, sorry was not plain - about that
[ In Reply To ..]
Just had some bad vibes overall, something rarely happens with me. Thanks anyway.
Vibes can be a powerful indicator. I'd listen - to your intuition on that one.
[ In Reply To ..]
You might be onto something - PSue
[ In Reply To ..]
You should have her tested before hiring.
FYI - your intuition may be right...... - see inside....
[ In Reply To ..]
Drug addicts who use meth ("tweakers") have a raging sweet tooth and especially love the concentrated, long-lasting jolly rancher-type of candy.
Maybe - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
She has a dry mouth as a side effect of a medication she is taking. I kmow I do and I am certainly NOT a drug addict on meth.
As far as comment that she isn't "too bright" if she's a cleaning lady. I have a friend who cleans houses and she makes a LOT more than I do at this job. Just sayin. I know I don't want to clean others messes for a living.
OP here: I asked about meds and she told me - Seroquel at night
[ In Reply To ..]
Just a feeling, something not right about the situation. I saw her in about an hour and a half here eat about 5 pieces and asked about it. Never knew the name Jolly Ranger but just something about her, don't think I am going this route. Once when she extended her arms I did look to see if I saw needle marks. Noticed what I would call squirmy like movements also, not all over the place but, something just not right there.
Dang! Think I just answered some of my - own questions. OP here
[ In Reply To ..]
Just pulled up Seroquel. Used for bipolar, schizophrenia, and others. I just had a feeling today and did not know why my intuition was kicking in. Thought all that candy popping not fitting in, sort of what I would term squirmy and guess my answer is not for now.
Are you for real? - anon1
[ In Reply To ..]
Looking for needle marks? Come on. If you did feel comfortable with her okay. Don't borrow trouble. She could be a nice person and has had to deal with people getting on her. I am a bipolar controlled with meds and have had a lot of people give me crap. Nobody is perfect. We all have something that someone else might feel "squirmy" about. Don't use her then. Move on and quit worrying what might be wrong with her.
You might have a "habit" that somebody would find unuusal. You never know what 1 person feels about another.
You are right, I could have a habit someone - would find unusual but
[ In Reply To ..]
I am not going into someone's home with only that 1 person at home, them not knowing jack about me, also possibility of having mental disorder. I have every right when hiring someone to ask and have questions answered. Not borrowing trouble and sure not going to pay for it either, therefore no hire. Thanks for the note though.
Yep, you do have every right when you are - about to employ someone
[ In Reply To ..]
to come into YOUR home. You are making the right decision. Better safe than sorry. As to the people saying not to judge, etc, that's all FINE AND GOOD as a rule, but NOT when you are hiring someone you need to trust w/o a doubt.
It is still her word - SM
[ In Reply To ..]
Some people will tell you what you want to hear. How does asking questions assure you are getting the truth? There is no 100% guarantee.
Flip side - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
Maybe she thought YOU were the "mental case." You did ask her about the candy and you were "checking her arms for needle marks."
Years ago, a friend of mine won a substantial amount of money due to libel. It seems that a neighbor began spreading malicious gossip about him. This woman at that time owned a profitable business. She subsequently lost her business and lost a lot of friends over it. All because of what she perceived and wanted others to believe as her. I knew the things she was saying were not true as I knew her victim quite well. She just could not stop even after being told/requested. Hence, the law suit.
People with mental illnesses can be productive workers. They no longer need to be hidden away. I thought we were past the stigma but unfortunately find that is not the case. My best friend struggles with mental health issues and I am shocked by some of the things people have said and done to her. Where is the compassion? It could just have easily been me or you or somebody else.
Walk a mile in her shoes.
Sorry for the rant but I feel strongly about those discriminated for mental health issues. I feel sometimes people will overlook a physical diability a lot easier than a mental disability. I tell my frient NOT to tell people about her mental health issues.
If you are so worried - anonia
[ In Reply To ..]
Go to your local police department and run a background check. They will probably charge you a small fee for this service. Also, how about asking for references when interviewing?
Not sure legally if you are able to ask what meds she takes and about her medical history. Just thinking when you were hired as a transcriptionist how would you have felt if they asked about medications you took and your mental health history?
It's a can of worms. Pros and cons for both sides of this story.
If your intuition is telling you something is not right, then go with it but you need to stop and think. Be careful about who you tell about your feelings. Some people like to spread gossip and will even embellish it. Don't want to see tis woman going after you.
The ADA says - Nick
[ In Reply To ..]
you cannot ask about a disability until you have offered the job and it has something to do with job requirements. For example, can you lift 75 pounds, etc? You can ask for references from previous clients.
I looked at her arms when she extended - them and as far as meds
[ In Reply To ..]
She told me about wanting to find a PCP here where we live, then she starting talking about the meds she takes. She also offered a piece of candy, that is when I asked what kind.
I am by myself, alone. This is not an office situation where more than 10 or 15 people are working. I do not want an ongoing situation where I would be afraid in my own home. Thanks, get the point.
Is she licensed & bonded? Very important. - Also, check her references.

Excuse me, but in your first post you said ... - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
In your first post you said she was eating Jolly Rancher candy. Now, in response to other posts, you are saying you never knew that name before. Seriously? How did you know it to post the first time???
All you have to do is look up Seroquel to see that dry mouth and twitches are common side effects. Yet, here you are, posting bizarre suspicions of drug abuse. And your writing is getting pressured-appearing again. Several of us have found that pretty odd before. Before accusing others of mental illness, maybe you should clean up your own act.
If you don't feel comfortable hiring someone, just don't. Leave off the public criticism about their medical issues.
I asked her what she was eating - She told me
[ In Reply To ..]
Before then had never heard of them. End of story.
Do you personally know the person the poster was - hiring
[ In Reply To ..]
No names were given, if criticism given no one hurt. You on the other hand wrote of pressured writing, found odd before. I find it odd that you think you know one poster from another.
Well, your writing style is very distinctive - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
You are either the op or you are doing a great imitation of her, because the writing in the last post is what I was talking about.
It is all the missing verbs, prepositions, and conjunctions that make it sound pressured.
Also responds the same way every time someone - points that out.
[ In Reply To ..]
Right, and every time someone points that out, she comes back with several posts, using different names, and says she doesn't believe anyone can tell.
I can't tell most people apart, but when someone writes that characteristically, it is very obvious.
Okay, you're not a match - Nick
[ In Reply To ..]
Other than running an NCIC/FBI criminal check on her, not much you can do other than interview other candidates. Surely there must be more than one person out there looking for a cleaning job? Or maybe you should go to work for the DEA. It's a really good (though dangerous) job. I know a DEA guy and he is going to retire at 70K a year. Think about it.
That makes no sense to me being as only - part-time and lacking $14 thou
[ In Reply To ..]
a year and having a dangerous job to boot, this is a no brainer not to want that job.
No brainer- not wanting that job when almost - bring home that much
[ In Reply To ..]
and working from home, no danger here.
Well, you are cleaning verbal messes -- - Val
[ In Reply To ..]
but I find it hysterical that the MTSOs want to keep the messes -- NOT find the actual subject in the sentence, NOT trim the repetitions, NOT make it easy to read, just keep the same crap, just written out.
I have an appointment Thursday with a home-care business. If that is not feasible, I will apply to fast food and maybe housecleaning. My hospital outsourced to MModal 2 years ago. I completed a pharmacy tech course and got licensed. No bites. I think the field is oversaturated with people who have pharmacy experience. I am finally applying to state jobs, and like I said, after Thursday, I will apply everywhere and anywhere.
There are lots o' tweakers in my neighborhood, - and ALL of them are thieves.

I think your gut is telling you more than just her - eating some candy. Go with your gut.

Interview other people and see if you get the same bad feelings about them. Chances are you won't. Always trust your instincts about people, even if it seems "silly". Instincts are usually right.

House Passes Doc Fix Bill TodayMar 26, 2015The House on Thursday overwhelmingly voted to repeal automatic payment cuts to doctors under Medicare, endorsing a rare bipartisan deal that Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) negotiated with Democrats.
The bill, which passed by a vote of 392-37, puts Congress on the precipice of ending a fight nearly two decades old over a formula known as the sustainable growth rate (SGR).
Since 2003, lawmakers have put off cuts under the Medicare formula 17 times, perennially punting the solution through s ...
Today The House Has Passed Their 40th Bill Against ObamacareAug 02, 2013Before going home for a month of vacation for summer recess, the House has passed their 40th bill to repeal or dismantle Obamacare. Fortieth bill! Why? I guess because they thought that was a good use of taxpayers' money, passing yet another bill that would go absolutely nowhere, and maybe that the Democrats had just overlooked the first 39?
Yes, of course they know it's a waste of time and money, but they are willing to spend all that time and all that money to ...

Self-cleaning OvenNov 29, 2010Well, made a huge Thanksgiving dinner (and I have to admit the oven hadn't been cleaned in a few weeks before that) and cleaned the oven today.
