I was raised in a multi-cultural family with my mother being Irish and my father was Spanish/French. Their family spoke Spanish most of the time at Family get-togethers so I ended up learning to speak Spansh. I still try to talk with my grandkids who are studying it in high-school. Otherwise I am kind of rusty as I don't get much of a chance to speak Spanish. I think all young kids should learn some foreign language. It really will help you in getting a job too.
Hasta la vista!!!! Adios mi amigo.

Okay, had to look up some of what you wrote. Your German is better than mine. What you wrote sounds like the title to a great story. While in Germany I took some German classes, but that was 30 years ago. I was able to get myself home if I got lost, go to the stores and restaurants and have "light" conversations. My famous line if some asked me something and I didn't know what they were saying was...Meine deutch is ein catastrophye, aber mein mans is muss besser (something like that).
I'm still homesick.
I'd love to go to Germany - wheres_my_job

I'd be homesick too, if I were you. Anyway you can manage a visit? I hear that Berlin is a hoppin' poppin' arts enclave now...maybe there's some MT in Germany, homesick for the US (I find that hard to believe, but who knows, maybe!)
I wish I could - can't even afford to go home to see my family - Baker Bee

Since I'm a one income family I can't afford to take any time off. Don't know when or if that will ever happen. If I could go back to Germany not sure I'd ever come back. Everything there just felt right. Even though I was in the military and was taken care of, spent many years traveling around and even living as a civilian there after I got out of the Army and DH stayed in. I'm waiting for them to finally build transporters so we can go anywhere we want within seconds (that is if they don't have the technology right now).
Geez, what are the frickin' priorities... - wheres_my_job

they can come up with VR ASR or whatever-R so our jobs evaporate...but no transporters yet. I mean, really, what ARE the priorities?

I lived in Germany for five years from 1961 to 1966. Most of my German is gone now, and I never dream that 50 years could go by with my not going back. But it's some of the best memories of my life. I lived in Bremerhaven.
I still have some copy books from German school and I can't understand a thing now that I wrote! Hard to believe I was that fluent at one time!
Spent 3 years there as well while in the Air Force - 4vrtpng

Was there from 1984 to 1987. That's where I met my now husband. We met at Ramstein AB. We traveled all over Germany while we were there. Even got to see East Berlin before the wall came down. Have lots of wonderful memories of Germany. I have very little German, but my husband was pretty fluent with it before we had to come back to the states.

Ego loqua latina, but sadly, no one else does, LOL! I also learned Middle Egyptian in college (History of Science major) but don't even get me trying to put any samples here as I don't have the ability to draw all those little images, some of which are frankly a bit unnerving! One thing I can say, it doesn't matter what the language is, MTs excel at it.

Article Regarding US Foreign Aid...May 24, 2011Not really surprising how much of it goes to Muslim or Arab countries, but what the money is actually used for was an eye opener for me.
Most Arab countries are oil rich....so my question is, why can't they take care of their own military and police forces and let us put some of those billions against reducing the deficit?
Or...why not use that money to fund some of the programs people seem to think they can't live without within THIS country instead of ADDING to the deficit?

Foreign PolicySep 18, 2012Does anyone really believe that Obama's foreign policy is working? How can anyone argue that, in the last 3-1/2 years, things have gotten better in the Middle East? I think the era of pandering is over since that was a huge failure. Let's try something else, shall we?

Trump To Cut Foreign Aid But Palestinians Will Apr 27, 2017TEL AVIV – The Trump administration is gearing up for major cuts in U.S. foreign aid across the world with the notable exception of the Palestinian territories, which will receive increased funding, State Department documents obtained by Foreign Policy magazine show. While many countries will suffer from major cutbacks or else have aid cancel ...

CURRENT U.S. Foreign Policy ProposalOct 29, 2009It's been on CNN.com for at least a day - how many hear have heard or read about this:

This is nothing new - We bring in suitcases full of cash to get what we want - the problem is it usually backfires because we are 'buying' temporary loyalty.

Oklahoma State Question 755 To Ban Foreign LawMar 03, 2011Interesting to see where this goes.
OKLAHOMA CITY -- State Representative Sally Kern (R-OKC) is behind a new bill that deals with foreign laws in Oklahoma courts. Rep. Kern says the bill prevents a state court in Oklahoma from using foreign law in a case, if in that case, the foreign law would violate either of the parties' constitutional rights.

A Reminder On Foreign Policy And Obama.Oct 23, 2012Remember 2008? One of Obama's weak points was foreign policy....he had NO experience in foreign policy.
A lot of people don't want to vote for Romney because he doesn't have any foreign policy experience. To those people, I would love to know why they would vote for a candidate that had no foreign policy experience one year and four years later refuse to vote for someone because they don't have any foreign policy experience? Doesn't make sense to me.
