Diagnosis of bursitis!

Posted: Sep 18, 2013

So doc says it's not arthritis...it's bursitis of the bone you sit on.  He told me i had to find a new way to sit.  THANKS DOC lol

;

Oh! - I hadn't thought of that!

Well, my goodness, shorty....that makes sense. I bet that's what a lot of us have, since we sit at our jobs. So what's the treatment?

steroids and to change the way i'm sitting - if it doesn't help go back

[ In Reply To ..]
not sure what they will do then

steroids - make you

FAT, and how can you change the way you are sitting? We only have one behind, and in order to make a living, we have to sit on it. Not very helpful suggestions by a "knowledgeable" doctor. glorified steroid pushers!
Steroids - MT

Steroids were the only thing that helped my sciatica. The doc put me on a taper and thank God, it worked. Maybe you wouldn't have to be on them long term. I'd at least ask about them. Every bone and muscle in my body hurts! I'll be 59 in a few days, and this job has really taken a toll. I take hydrocodone also. I have no insurance, and the hydrocodone at least helps me to be able to keep working. But I'm getting worse, so I've been thinking about seeing my doc and ask if he'll put me on another tapering dose, as I really don't want to take them long term. Hope you get better!

Suggestion...wheelchair cushion!!! - sm

Get a wheelchair cushion. That is what they are for-- reducing the pressure on bony prominences. They come in varying thicknesses of material like memory foam and gel.

Another possibility would be to get a truly ergonomic, MESH BOTTOM chair like the Herman Miller Mirra or Aeron chair. The seat pan on them moves with you, and is mesh, so there is little to no direct pressure and no rubbing. My employer provides them for everyone, and we are a huge entity, so that says something about them being worth the cost. Try them at an office store. Order them online.

Look for the wheelchair cushions at a physical therapy supply place or online. You can get a 2 or 3 inch gel cushion for about $40-45. They come with tailbone cutouts.

I have tried every single cushion - made for man

and yes, they may "cushion" the tush, but they also cause other problems. Some are so thick that then it raises you too high and you have to adjust your chair to accommodate, and then the old knees start to hurt! If you get one thing to help with an area of pain, there is a trade-off for another area of pain. Medications, including steroids, only MASK the pain. They CURE nothing and the symptoms always return.

the one sure cure I have found for sciatic type pain, as strange as it sounds, is sitting straight leg raises, as many and as often as you think about it. I don't know why, but it works for me, and it is better than any old cushion or medication any day!!!
Ibuprofen does not just mask pain. Anti-inflammatories - are therapeutic

and promote accelerated healing of any number of conditions where inflammation is a major factor. BursITIS, whether acute or chronic, would be among those.
sure, they are therapeutic and - decrease the pain

but they are also very hard on the stomach, as well as the liver, and if used to excess, can cause a multitude of other problems. They do not "cure" anything. There are other ways to control inflammation rather than pharmaceutical, man-made, money grubbing methods.
Are you "Shorty" the OP? - ???

If not, why are you chiming in with a negative opinion that has nothing to do with her problem?

She just told you she has bursitis which is caused by pressure on the bones you sit on. I don't care if you like wheelchair cushions or not, but that is what they are made for.

If you ARE the OP, the doctor just told you that you don't have sciatica. If you tried cushions in the past, maybe they were the wrong kind. One certainly seemed too high. Maybe you should consult an orthotist for advice.

Olecranon BursitisAug 26, 2015
A few weeks ago I noticed my left elbow was painful when resting on a chair arm or desk.  I didn't think too much of it, since I remember hitting the elbow on a door around that time.  However, I now have very significant swelling of the bursa.  I researched the condition, and some say the condition will resolve on its own, while others say the treatment of choice is aspiration.   I doubt this is septic bursitis, as the area is not red or hot.  Not looking forw ...

Hi, Just wondering if anyone can give me a bit of info (since I have much better luck on message boards than I do trying to go directly to any source). ; ) To the point, I had not been to a doctor in several years.  I recently went to a gynecologist (was actually a NP) and then she referred me on to an IM doc.  They both ignored what I really wanted to focus on (hormones - perimenopausal and a slew of what I discovered to be thyroid symptoms I had been having for 12 years or so).&nbs ...

How about that? Younger women who now are covered under health insurance/Obamacare now are being diagnosed with cervical cancer at an earlier, more treatable age.
