Cascade Power Dishwashing Powder

I just want to warn everyone that if you use the new improved Cascade dishwasher detergent powder to stop immediately and find something else to use.
I have been using Cascade powder for 15 years but we spent 2 days unblocking a 4 inch drainage pipe. It turns out that the Cascade has changed their formula and the detergent never disintegrated. It just laid in that pipe and built up until I had water running all over the floor. We do not know how far into the pipe it is right now. We only did enough to let the water run through.
Nothing seemed to disintegrate it (at least what we have tried). Is there a really good drain cleaner that will work with plastic pipes? We don't know how far the blockage went down. We did take a snake to it and it seemed to clear it up temporarily, but we need a idea on what to use to truly clear out this blockage/dissolve the detergent since we don't know how much further the detergent is in the pipe and we want to clean everything out.
TIA for any suggestions.

[ In Reply To ..]depending on the kind of snake you have you can go outside to the cleanout (if you have one) which is a big piece of pipe sticking out of the ground that you can open, and open it up and run the snake that way back towards the house. You could stop up your sink with hot water and then run your dishwasher and when it goes to drain unstop the sink. Depending on how far down the line it is you could also flush your toilet at the same time and/or fill up your bathtub, wash machine, etc. and then let them all go. This sounds crazy, but it could be the pressure you need to knock it out. A drain cleaner would just waste your money.

I do hate drain cleaners, too. Never used them before. They always seemed to make things worse at my mom's.

[ In Reply To ..]I use the compressed little squares with the Dawn liquid inside with the compressed powder. I love them, been using them for a couple years, the loose box powder before that. As far as I know though no problems, I hope it stays that way.

[ In Reply To ..]DONT waste your money on those! The new Electrasol or "Finish" is the same way. I used both and they don't do anything that the old gel packs/powder packs do, but they cost a lot more!

I also use liquid Dawn for my non-stick pots because putting them in the dishwasher ruins the coating.

Cascade Complete - Old part-timer
[ In Reply To ..]I have an older dishwasher and a few years ago it stopped cleaning very well. I thought I would have to replace it, but then I started using Cascade Complete, the loose powder version and it does just fine. I absolutely cannot use anything else or the dishes don't get clean.
So far, I haven't had any clogging problems.
I use the Finish Quantum and it does a beautiful job - MT4ever

[ In Reply To ..]My pipes got clogged on Thanksgiving, the day after I had been cooking and had run 3 loads of dishes. The clog made my disposal automatic cut-off kick in, so I was without one kitchen sink and my disposer. I ran an empty dishwasher and that seemed to clear the clog.
I wondered if it was Cascade, but thought that was a crazy idea. I only started using their new product about 4 months ago. Just two days ago, I noticed a collection of detergent in a bit of water left in a bowl that had been knocked over while washing. I just bought their little packaged product that you drop in so there is no measuring. I'll see how that works instead of using the powder.

[ In Reply To ..]I bought a new dishwasher about 16 months ago. The dishwaser "guy" that came out told me to never use those little square. (I had been using them) He said the place where you put them, they would cause the little spring that closes the door on the detergent cup to screw up and ruin it and cause the parts "to swell." He said those things are bad news. supposedly the best DW detergent to use is the liquid.

I honestly don't remember what the brand was I buy what is on sale but I use the squares or powder and the soap would not release during the wash. My husband changed the spring once and it helped for a while but it is good to know it is probably the soap and not the dishwasher. I will buy some liquid today.

I will have to check my door/spring closure on the thing and see if it looks okay. I really don't like the liquid though but I guess I can give it a try. Thanks for the heads up.

I don't know what's in the stuff, but they need to take that back to the drawing board for a new and much improved version.
