Becoming a MT with a criminal record... Possible???

Hi I am thinking about becoming a MT but unfortunatly I do have a criminal record. I had gotten into some trouble back in 2008 so now I have a misdemenor assault. It has been hard finding a job, mostly working directly with people but if I do become a MT I would want to work from home to be with my son. Also I was thinking of going though Penn Foster. Will I be able to find a job with the assault? What do you think about Penn Foster?? Thanks!

[ In Reply To ..]The thing is, I've been in this business for over a decade (I was in the Army prior to becoming a transcriptionist) and the pay keeps going down and the companies keep getting bought out and the work is harder and harder to find. I'm now employed by one of the big 2 and most days I'm waiting for work. Also, I'm thinking that a misdemeanor shouldn't keep you from being employed. Most companies are really only concerned with felonies. However, if you've had difficulties based on your record, Goodwill Industries does some excellent work in job placement for people with criminal records, just contact your local Goodwill and ask for an employment specialist. I am making less than I did per line than when I started, although I make more money because I have a lot of experience. [ In Reply To ..]Penn Foster, they truly are awful. Any of those like Penn Foster, AT-Home professions, etc, are a waste of time and money, no one will hire you from those. I worked with a lady who did Penn Foster, boy was she bad. Luckily the powers that be saw how bad she was and she was gone.
