Anyone familiar with the copper IUD?

Posted: Aug 21, 2013

I'm 38 years old and got a copper IUD when my daughter was born September 2003, so next month it will be 10 years.  They are supposed to last 10 years.  Has anyone ever had one and if so, did it fall out at 10 years or keep going or what?  My mom got one, but hers NEVER came out and her GYN just left it in, so she is no help.

I'm concerned, because I start my period every month, like clock work on the 19th and today is the 21st with no period.  It wouldn't be as much of a cause for concern, but I ALWAYS have breast pain/tenderness pretty bad right before my period each month and I have zero breast tenderness.  I know people also have breast tenderness with preganncy, but I never really did in the beginning.

One more thing....for anyone who has the IUD, you know you insert your finger to check placement.  I never did this monthly, as advised, but when I did do it, I could barely feel the tip of the string.  Well, I checked today and it I could feel A LOT of it, like it is coiled aruond or something.  So, that is the last part of my question, does it just fall out or does it just fall off of the wall and remain up there?

Thanks ladies.

I had a copper IUD, and I think the lifespan, depending on the brand, is 10 years. They have to be removed, and it's the most painful thing I've ever gone through - but maybe that's just me.

Had one too - Trampled underfoot

I didn't keep it for 10 years, but I assume that is when they recommend that it be removed, not that it will self-destruct or anything. And getting it removed (even though the string had disappeared) was really not painful at all.

But since you're feeling more than just the string, maybe it has shifted. Better see your gynecologist.

I had one for 6 weeks horrible pain, had to take it out. sm - me

There are a lot of lawsuits about it, too. But the others are right, you have to have it checked and replaced or whatever.

Anyone Familiar With GPants?Jan 11, 2012
Hi all. I had posted earlier about a diaper debate. My friend who is due in May finished her baby shower registry and I saw that she wants to use gPants. I've heard of them and have practically memorized their website. I know they are available online or at Targets. Anyway, my friend only put on her list 3 gPants (one for each size) and 1 box of gCloth liners (flushable).  Has anyone used gPants? My understanding is the gPant and liners are all washable/reuseable and the refills are fl ...

Anyone Familiar With Bunnies?Aug 22, 2013
My husband found a loose dwarf Siamese bunny that we, of course, took in.   Neither are of us are very familiar with the care of bunnies.  This one appears to be full-grown and only weighs maybe a pound or so, longish hair, and just adorable to watch hopping around investigating. We have 2 little dogs and not sure how they'll take to the bunny, so for the time being we have the bunny separated from them.   Has anyone here owned bunnies and familiar with their likes/dislike ...

Anybody Familiar With Bennington, VT?Apr 08, 2014
I'm considering moving to Vermont, the Bennington area, specifically, and wonder if anyone knows what kind of town it is to live in.  I'm thinking quality of life, like crime rates, pedestrian access, social activities.  Schools aren't an issue, my kids are grown (one may be moving with me).   I'll probably drive over there on a weekend.  It's only about 100 miles from where I live, but driving through a community doesn't really give you much of ...

Anyone Familiar With BeautiControl Stuff?Mar 05, 2012
A friend of mine just signed up to sell BeautiControl products.  I'm not familiar with that line and wondered if anyone here has used or is using it.  I hate shelling out money for products unless I've heard pretty decent things about them, but I'm not adverse to trying new things. TIA! ...

Momentary Disorientation In Familiar SurroudingsSep 10, 2013
(Also initially posted in Prayer section)  Several months ago, I had a few episodes of becoming momentarily disoriented while driving a very familiar route.  I spoke with a psychologist about it, and he said if it happened again to take note of what was taking place right before.  I don't recall anything significant preceding those events.  It didn't happen again until this past Saturday.  My husband and I were going to a wedding, and I was driving.  ...

Email Scandal--Republicans Quite FamiliarAug 20, 2015
I have been wondering what the angle was on this email scandal witch hunt has been. I had forgotten the millions of emails, lost or deleted. Republicans really have no shame, and no filter. The Bush administration also lost 22 million emails. They just so happened to lose the emails from the architects of Bush’s torture policy. Within those 22 million lost emails were five million emails that were lost relating to the 2007 firing of eight U.S. Attorneys. The Bush administration denied ...
