to process your SS application and start receiving your money. Say you apply in the middle of January. They figure out what your benefit is going to be. You are paid in arrears, so your first full month of benefit would be for February for which you'd receive your direct deposit on the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Wednesday of the March. This works out to be approximately 2 months from application to your first direct deposit.
