I started receiving early SS when I turned 62. (I will be 64 in October). I applied I believe in July or August and I received my first check in December, 2 months AFTER turning 62. Another thing to be aware of, is the fact that with taking early SS, you do not receive it on the first of the month until you reach full retirement age. For example, I get my SS benefits on the third Wednesday of the month. The other posters were correct in stating what you could earn per year and still receive full benefits.
