Update on my chihuahua (sm)

He is now eating normally and drinking normally. I am SO RELIEVED. He's still having trouble jumping up on the couch and the bed, but he's trying without yelping. I gave him a half baby aspirin yesterday and another half this morning, per vet's instructions and it seems to be helping. I do appreciate the suggestions and good thoughts from all, and I've decided I will never get him so many immunizations at one time. (That's how I feel about kids' shots too, but that's a whole other story - LOL) Thanks again everyone.

sensitive to too many vaccinations at once. My vet actually was very insistent on only giving 1 at a time and since he was older, we did a distempter titer that showed he was immune so he wouldn't have to get that vaccination anymore. He had a checkup 2 months before he passed and it was time for his rabies, but she said she was going to give him a medical exception (for the dog license) because she felt he wouldn't handle it well. And he was 12 pounds! Limiting shots to 1 a visit is probably best for your baby, he's so tiny! If you see a group practice vet, make sure they put info on his chart about limiting # of vaccinations at 1 time.

If a dog reacts to a vaccine, 9 times out of 10 it is to the leptospirosis (lepto). Dogs don't get it in my area so I don't give it. I give my own vaccines, canine distemper-adenovirus type 2, parainfluenza, parvovirus. In some areas, you need the Lyme vaccine. If you do not need the lepto and your dog is not exposed to rats/mice that carry lepto, it is a risk. Sometimes to avoid the lepto, you must use/request the puppy vaccine which is the exact same vaccine but without the lepto (puppy vaccine may also contain coronavirus which my dogs have never reacted to). If you need multiple vaccines, give at separate times. One combination vaccine is coronavirus, Lyme and leptospirosis so you would have to request that the coronavirus and Lyme vaccines be given as individual vaccines (if needed in your area) in order to avoid the lepto component. I would watch the aspirin as it is an NSAID. Dogs will tolerate them for awhile but then usually start to have problems. Too much and you can have kidney failure.

1/2 a baby aspirin 3 times, once morning, night, and again morning. That was all he had. By then he seemed to be getting better, so I didn't give anymore. I am definitely going to space shots.

Well, my legs and ankles are mostly normal now. I think I lost 10-15 pounds and took finally four Torsemide two morning and two in afternoon to do it. Well, it has been a month, short of 5 days, that I walked away from the medical field and medical transcription after over 23 years. I have to say that it has been the best thing that I have done for myself and my family in forever. Yesterday I went for my repeat films after receiving a call last Monday concerning an area of concern. The possible nodule again was seen on yesterday's films. They did an ultrasound which did not pick it up. The radiologist said he does not think we are dealilng with anything serious, but has advised me to return in six months for repeat films. Yesterday Tiny received one dose of Lysodren, 1/4 pill. She actually vomited a few times the day before she ever received it.
