I've decided on my first sewing project. A baby quilt.

Posted: Dec 1, 2010

My niece is pregnant and she found out she is having a boy, so I know what colors to use.  She is due in April so I figure that gives me plenty of time to work on it as I'm on a learning curve and will no doubtedly be ripping stitches and starting over repeatedly.

I post pictures of my progress for advice and critiques!

Just be sure to prewash all the fabrics. Be very careful with red fabric as it tends to bleed. I have been sewing for over 35 years and I just adore sewing. Have made just about everything under the sun, from christening dresses, curtains, quilts, bedspreads...you name it. I'd rather sew than do anything. Have fun, fun, fun!!

So fun! - The Analog Kid

Be sure to have the new mom take a picture of the baby, together with the quilt...Have fun!

Does Anyone Out There Quilt?Nov 05, 2011
I can't sew a lick, but I think I'd like to learn to quilt.  I need to get back into scrapbooking as I LOVE'd it but just ran out of time to do anything fun after I was bought by the not-so-jolly-green giant.  Lovin' the new job and have a few spare hrs a day.  Would love to do something creative again, but I wonder how hard quilting is.  I have a couple of ideas but no experience.  TIA. ...

Any Users Of Sewing Machines Out There?Apr 17, 2014
I have an approximately 15 year old sewing machine I picked up in a lawn sale.  There is no user's manual with it.   It worked great for a while, but now it's alternately knotting and leaving loops on the underside of the cloth.  Any idea if this is an easy fix?  Or should I take it to a repair shop?  I don't want to spend a bunch to fix it if it's something I could do myself.   ...

Recommendations For New Sewing Machine - SmJul 26, 2014
My old 24-y/o Singer died Thursday.  No idea if it is the machine or the pedal, but really don't want to buy a pedal to see.  Looking for recommendations for a new machine, any brand, what you like about it, approx. cost if you recall, features, etc.  I don't do a ton of sewing (not a lot of time)  but make things from time to time, costumes, curtains, pillows, hemming, skirts/dresses at times.  Like something easy to use but with some bells and whistles, ...

Best Sewing Machine For No Problem With TensionApr 16, 2011
I want to buy a sewing machine.  My problem with sewing is managing the bobbin thread tension on most sewing machine.  I thought I'd ask for information from anyone who sews a lot their recommendation for a sewing machine with problem-free tension.  I don't need one that does everything, just a simple machine with a good straight stitch but a good one that I do not have to worry about the tension.  It's caused me to just totally quit even trying anymore.  ...

Question For Craft Or Sewing People. Jun 05, 2015
Has anyone ever used a sewing awl for heavier fabrics like Carhartt type work pants? My husband is a welder and gets small holes burned in his clothes at times.  Then I have to patch them,  I have used those iron-on patches and the results are questionable.  Then I tried permanent bond fabric glue, which isn't too bad but eventually comes off after washing everything and have to put it in the dryer. We are in an apartment with no room to hang up 3 suits of he ...

GOP Growth And Opportunity ProjectMar 18, 2013
I would love to see Republicans start "caring" about women, Hispanics and gays, but how are they going to get that across while voting against these groups?   For example, how can the Republican party possibly get more gay votes when they continually shoot down gay marriage?   From the project: The Republican Party needs to stop talking to itself. We have become expert in how to provide  ideological reinforcement to like-minded people, but devastatingly we have lost the abilit ...

I Have Decided That If I Win The Lottery....Nov 27, 2012
I am going to set-up a new transcription company.  My clients will have to go with one form used across the board for every one of the notes done no matter what they are.  For ESL folks, their cost to me would be more than those who speak English well.  We would have an action committee where ALL people would be heard and management would require answering all employees issues within a set amount of time.    The MT's will actually get paid what they are worth. ...

The Enormously Powerful, Hidden Group Who Decided TheyOct 07, 2012
The American Legislative Exchange Council is made up of a bunch of extremely wealthy individuals and corporations, including the Koch brothers. They've worked quietly ever since the 1970s to influence the direction of our country--not just economic but what they feel should be our moral and social direction. Now they are running candidates for President and Vice President. Romney came under their influence when he accepted ALEC's candidate Paul Ryan as his running mate, and with him th ...

We're Having A Baby Girl!!! SmFeb 23, 2010
Ok...so sorry if this doesn't work.  I haven't posted a picture on here in a long time.  I just had to share the news...we are going to have a baby girl!  Jocelyn Mae is due to come into this world on June 5, 2010.  I'm 25 weeks 4 days today and my belly is definitely making it harder to work.  I work in-house in the hospital that I will deliver at, so the plan is to just work until I feel I can't / shouldn't...who knows....maybe I'll just ...

Baby Horse And MomJul 19, 2010
Just wanted you all to know that the baby miniature horse was even more precious in person!  She just stuck to her mom and they walked side by side in the pasture.  One of the girls who lives on the farm picked her up and brought her to the fence so we could pet her.  Baby's mom was eating hay under a shade tree with her back turned. Suddenly she realized that her baby was not beside her.  She made some very loud cries and galloped over to the fence to protect her litt ...

Baby MiceJun 11, 2010
I know he should have left well enough alone, but DH found a mommy and 5 baby mice in our shed.  He brought their bedding and the mice into the house to show me.  Mommy escaped and we can't find her.  Does anyone know what I can do for those poor babies?  After I put the dogs to bed at night, I leave out trails of cheese for Mommy, leading to the babies, hoping she'll come back.  Sure, they're rodents, but I feel terrible.  ...

A Miracle BabyJan 24, 2014

Her mommy and daddy had lost all 3 of their previous ba ...

So Not Having Nursed A Baby I Have Got ToOct 07, 2015
Just saw where a lady was upset because she wanted to nurse her baby at an airport, wanted some privacy and was told she could get that in the bathroom. She did not want to do that, said germs and then the airline person suggested the pet room where apparently the animals go to use the bathroom, I think. Having never nursed but thought a woman, if traveling, could nurse ahead and store the milk somehow. Women with babies have traveled for years. Why now do others think they are so entitled to ha ...

Need To Lose Baby WeightFeb 28, 2012
I had a baby 2 years ago and I have not worked out a day since then (bad I know).  Now, with summer coming up, I need to tone up and get in shape.  Anyone have a good workout they can share to lose the baby weight.  I've got about 10 pounds to lose, which isn't bad, but I'm so out of shape and kind of puffy, no muscle!  I really don't want to join a gym as I have a treadmill and some weights but really have no idea what kind of workout to do. ...
