martha's vinyard hurricane

Posted: Aug 27, 2011

I'm glad Hurricane Irene pushed that Marxist Hack out of Martha's Vinyard.  While he visited the book store he bought a book called  Brave New World .. a book that Socialist dictators like to read and learn from.

You are sadly misinformed. You obviously are suffering...sm - Sorry for you

from a lot of fear and hate. I feel sorry for you. Have you even read the book or are your opinions a result of being fed by those fear and hate mongers? Huxley was a SATIRIST and his book was a NOVEL. I was also among the top novels of the 20th century, intended to provoke intelligent thought and discussion.

Well put. - I couldn't agree with you more. nm

Your post led me to do some research - sm

I've never read the book. Have heard the authors name, but didn't know anything about him or what he wrote. I respect your opinion, but I have to say I didn't find what you wrote. I really do think this is interesting. This is what I found on the author and after that is a link that actually is the book. I haven't read the book yet, but I don't get that it's going to be like that by viewing the author's biography. It says that "Brave New World warned that a future utopia based on technology and social control would be a nightmare...". It says he also worked on an adaption of Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice.

Maybe it is like we should all be very afraid of Harry Potter - sm

I had an old friend tell me that I could lose my soul if I read the Harry Potter books. Same old friend I played fairy tale stories with when we were kids. Heaven forbid that we read a science fiction book or some other fancy book.

I agree with your assessment of our illustrious leader. Too bad everybody got distracted by your lack of knowledge about Huxley's Brave New World. Check it out of the library--it's a good book and will fuel your opinions about what is going on.

Go Rick Perry for President. I may not be as book smart as alot of people but I have enough sense to know when a president is leading this country into bankruptcy ON PURPOSE. He also read books by Cloward & Pivon and George Soros and other socialist books on how to collapse the economy, grow the government and take over. And it hurts that people (even like my sister) cannot see it.

Speaking of hacks, watch Beck much? - He hawks this same snake oil

almost verbatim. Folks who ain't too book smart and let others do their thinking for them make perfect Perry supporters. Careful what you ask for. He has been a living nightmare as governor of Texas.

Focus on your president and what a nightmare he is. You are going to be affected by this healthcare thing and all the other crap that is coming just like glenn beck fans my dear.
If your talking about people who let others do their thinking - oooh you do not even want to go there
[ In Reply To ..]
First, Beck has not been on in months. If you stopped wanting to insult so badly you might have at least thought of someone who is still on the TV. So in fact you don't know what he says "verbatim".

Next, if you are going to talk about people who "ain't too book smart and let others do their thinking for them", well that describes liberals following down the path, not thinking for themselves just repeating what the hacks on the liberal stations tell them to say "verbatim". Also not doing any thinking for themselves voting in the same people who are screwing them.

Next, I don't support Perry. Don't trust him. Especially because he is tied with Gore. Anyone tied with that is not trustworthy.

As for what he did in Texas as governor I heard the opposite of what you said. I still don't want him as president because he is not trustworthy because of Gore. Unless he comes out and denounces Gore and his farce then he is not getting my support.

But before you start insulting someone telling them they "ain't too book smart", you should at least follow your own advice, cos you just spoke about yourself.
RU kidding me? Cloward and Piven were one of Beck's most protracted - pet paranoid delusions.

which even resulted in death threats against Piven. The legendary Soros blather (upchucked by wingnut commentators across the board) predates the 2008 election. Not likely to be fogotten by Beck worshipers anytime soon, since he relentlessly pounded away at and scribbled his way through these (yawn) wild-eyed chalkboard conspiracy theories ad nauseum. He subscribes to the notion that if you repeat something enough times, no matter how preposterous it may be, you can convince the most vulnerable populations among us that fiction is fact, a ball wingers have picked up and run with. Problem is, they have grossly overestimated the numbers of brain dead they target out here in the general population.

In fact, us book-smart libs who have earned that wingnut intellectual "elitist" slam are quite handy at resurrecting "verbatim," past and present. Get a clue. Reading books expands one's consciousness, cognitive and critical thinking skills and enables them to conceive, form, substantiate, expand and elaborate THEIR VERY OWN ideologies, using what I like to call the smorgasbord method of information gathering. They are much more likely to be aware of multiple aspects of diverse and opposing lines of thinking and they arrive at their belief systems by applying their personal life experiences to the information they are constantly gathering. Beck bottom feeders...not so much. Oh, and BTW, do not expect any of us to believe you have never heard of GBTV, Beck's own TV NETWORK. Puh-leeze. Why he is even more resourceful than Jim Jones in his dedication to getting that brainwash out to his adoring fans.

FYI, the book-smart label was self-imposed by the OP when she was talking about herself, in case you hadn't noticed, so I offer no contrite apologies for repeating it in my posts.

For those who are not into books per se, perhaps a few short articles recording Beck's verbatim blabber for all posterity are in order:

It happens all the time on this board.

Right now I'd rather focus on where a "not so book smart" person - comes up with

ON PURPOSE declarations and refrences to Cloward, Piven and Soros. As far as the president's reading list goes, he probably reads what's on the back of a box of Cheerios too, but likely does not base his policies on that information either. Those 3 authors contributed to a vast library on US economic theories that arose out of a variety of social and cultural environments in their own times. When I was in college, I encountered all 3 of them on required reading lists in freshman and sophomore courses I took back in the day. I also read Huxley's works. Not one single line of any of those pieces affected my political thinking. Let's get real. When not-so-book-smart folks attack others based on what they read, they are clearly grasping at straws because they got nothing of substance to offer.
Not-so-book-smart - hmmm

Bill Gates dropped out of college - wouldn't qualify as "book smart." I think he did pretty well for himself...
Q: What does Gates have to do with Beck delusions of - O DELIBERATELY tanking the economy ?
[ In Reply To ..]
A: Absolutely nothing whatsoever.
