Wasting more tax dollars

Posted: Mar 13, 2011

Gov. Scott Walker spoke at an invitation-only event Saturday evening for a Republican fundraiser.  Walker arrived in a convoy of six unmarked police cars that pulled up at 5:45 p.m. to the Steak Pit.

Perhaps he should stay back at the mansion instead of racking up public employee overtime.

;

I want him to be safe of course, but maybe the "hamburger" pit next time - Probably could cut down a little

[ In Reply To ..]
I wouldn't even think of telling him how much security he needs, but that sure sounds extreme.

It is not up to him...it is up to the agency - protecting him (probably

[ In Reply To ..]
the state police). And since they are union, they probably adopted the usual union tac which is if the job could be done by 1 guy (or car) then we should send at least 3. ;-)

I believe your information is incorrect - nm

[ In Reply To ..]
This is a tactic used way too much, putting "probably" this and allowing people to think you have facts behind your assertions.
Sorry....Wisconsin Capitol police... - from their website...
[ In Reply To ..]
Dignitary Unit

The Dignitary Unit is responsible to provide protective services to the Governor, his family and staff, and the many VIPS that visit the State of Wisconsin. The Capitol Police provide protection for the Governor 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, when he is located at the Capitol or Executive Residence. Other major responsibilities include investigating threatening or harassing conduct directed at the Governor or his designees. The Capitol Police also plan and direct the protective details for other high-ranking state and federal officials within the State.

Nothing there says he gets to pick how many are on the detail. The words "plan and direct the protective details" pretty much says the choice of how many lies with them.

Do you like that better??
so they picked the steak location? - I doubt it
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
I'm just kidding. I have no problem with his security or the restaurant. - Just pulling your chain
[ In Reply To ..]
Now I feel ashamed. Shouldn't have been teasing you.
Walker didn't pick it either. The organizer - of the fundraiser did.
[ In Reply To ..]
Walker was a speaker there. That is what the post said.

If this presents such an issue for you, it is a wonder you did not have a stroke Obama (and HOW many others) flew to Copenhagen for the Olympic vote?? Yikes. Wonder where THEY ate??

Doesn't Madison PD have a second shift? - LOL! Don't think OT

[ In Reply To ..]
was involved. Probably wasn't Madison PD anyway...probably state police? I think they have a second shift too. You against those public employees getting their colelctively bargained fair wages now?

Guess he needs the protection - Still a waste, though - nm

[ In Reply To ..]

That go for Obama too? I guess he needs - protecting too, but....

[ In Reply To ..]
do you consider that a waste of your tax dollars?

Ummm... he's the President - no1joe

[ In Reply To ..]
Apples and oranges. I'm not saying that Scott doesn't deserve protection; however, maybe the professionals should just cover the wife and kids. He could save the taxpayers and get cheaper security detail for himself... Wackenhut maybe... he seems to think they're great.
Is he the Governor that took the 5th amendment in that case? - Oh my! I had not made the connection
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
If he was serious about fixing his budget - he should cut back, too.
[ In Reply To ..]
Pay and benefit cuts for Walker and his staff.
Ummm....he is an elected official just like Walker - is. Wackenhut, that's
[ In Reply To ..]
cute. Maybe the Secret Service could look after Michelle and the kids and ol' Joe, and the Black Panthers that stood outside the polls in Philly and the SEIU purple shirts who kicked the crap out of the folks during the elections could look out for Obama...he seems to think the unions have his back anyway. Oh...and that guy who bit off the other guy's finger...he might come in handy too.
Nope. Still apples and oranges. - no1joe
[ In Reply To ..]
First of all, the President is the President, they are higher profile (obviously), and their security is of the most importance for the good of the country (again, obviously) which requires skilled individuals to provide. Also, President Obama didn't get rid of union security guards, replace them with guards from Wackenhut including a security chief who had done jail time, and then wound up having to pay for BOTH. It's a great story... look into it. If saving costs are of such importance to Scott, he could have a company with this kind of reputation provide security for him. I mean, if it's good enough for the citizens of Wisconsin... why not himself?

There's nothing "cute" about Wackenhut (or this stunt that Walker pulled)... unless you consider donning coconut bras and finding clever new ways to do body shots cute. Personally, I don't.
The point is...governors before him were protected - and governors after him will
[ In Reply To ..]
be protected, and if he was the first politician to make made decisions and that makes him target to lose his security detail, then might as will line them up and the line will be long.

And bottom line...if he was a Democrat you and none of the others here would have even brought up the Wackenhut thing, and if anyone else did, you would be defending him.

Let's just call it what it is, shall we? I think wrong is wrong no matter whether the elephant or the donkey does it.

Oh and by the way...didn't Obama appoint a guy to oversee the treasury department who cheated on his taxes? Didn't Tom Daschle have to withdraw his nomination because....

COME ON. The problem is you fail to see the timber in the Democrats' eyes while honing in on the splinter in the Republican', no matter HOW to try to spin your apples and oranges.
Walker hiring the security chief that had done jail time was unbelievable! - What was he thinking?!
[ In Reply To ..]
The whole story is ridiculous. He did get rid of the unions, which was his goal, but it sure didn't save any money after hiring all those private security personnel from Wackenhut, including the criminal element.

This goes to the core of the matter for me. It shows Walker's real intent and the length he is willing to go to in order to achieve it. There is nothing to celebrate or respect about what he did and is continuing to do.
He did NOT get rid of the unions. There was only - ONE union, and it is still
[ In Reply To ..]
there. Police and fire were exempted in the bill, they can still bargain collectively. The union members, even the ones who can no longer bargain collectively, are still union members; they still get wages and bennies at the rate they are presently at.

Please....STOP saying he "busted" the union. He DID not. It is still there. The union members are still there. All he did was keep them from "collectively bargaining" the state into bankruptcy, and THAT was the goal.

We're talking about previously - the situation where he fired the union workers and replaced th - Google for more info about that
[ In Reply To ..]
This was the scandal that happened before he became Governor, not the crisis that's going on now.
ok...so he fired union workers...were the - ones he fired the only
[ In Reply To ..]
members of that union? If not, then he did not get rid of a union, he got rid of some union workers. If the union still remains...does it or doesn't it?
I believe he fired ALL union workers and replaced them - thus union busting - No union workers = no union
[ In Reply To ..]
That is called union busting, which is a bad thing for workers in general.
If the union still exists, he did not bust the union. - When Reagan fired the
[ In Reply To ..]
the air traffic controllers, the union did not cease to exist and is still in existence today. I am sure whatever union those guards belonged to is still in existence today. Why didn't the union demand an arbitration to protect their people if they were unfairly terminated?? Where is the union on this issue?

Does anyone know if Gabby Gifford had security protection? - nm

[ In Reply To ..]

No, I think we have been cutting costs in that area - Not sure if it is cost-effective though in the lon

[ In Reply To ..]
As in most cost-saving efforts, there is often more to the story. There was in her case.

Dont know, but I do know she has foreign doctors - who saved her life

[ In Reply To ..]
I bet she wishes they would go back to their own country where they belong and take their foreign accents with them!
I bet she doesn't - nm
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
Are you familiar with the concept of sarcasm? - No kidding she doesn't
[ In Reply To ..]
Duh.

Let's see if we remember this . . . - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
"So Walker busted the unionized security guards and hired a Wackenhut employee with a criminal record to be in charge of security, and it didn't save that much money.

But there's more....

Now a judge has ruled that Walker's union busting was illegal, and the county has to hire all the old security guards back and with back pay."

I don't think that's much for Walker to be proud of, personally - Just sayin

[ In Reply To ..]
I won't be celebrating that victory with him.
Kinda like Bill Clinton with the cigar and perjury - thing, right?
[ In Reply To ..]
I wouldn't have been real proud of that either....I see what you are saying. I wouldn't have been celebrating with HIM either. Didn't stop the Democrats from it, however.
Are we talking about Clinton here or Walker? - Staying on topic
[ In Reply To ..]
The topic is Walker and his contribution and claims about balancing the budget. He claimed to have done it before and instead caused much more expense than ever. I expect that's what's going to end up happening in his current position too.
Poster said Walker should not be proud and the - Republicans should not be
[ In Reply To ..]
celebrating...the topic being proud of doing something wrong and celebrating it. I merely pointed out that Walker is not the first politician to have made a reallly baddd decision and have his party celebrate it.

Point being, the same noses that are out of joint over Walker's antics are the ones that stayed in joint and defended worse behavior on the part of Bill Clinton (I think committing a felony still tops the Wackenhut bad decision....)
Two rights don't make a wrong; nothing to be proud about in either case - Research the Wackenhut regarding legalities and co
[ In Reply To ..]
Both are bad. I see no reason to say that Walker's situation was so bad because Clinton was bad. That makes no sense. Two different very bad situations.
Would you have posted the same thing if he - was a Democrat? nm
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
I'm sure not defending Clinton's behavior, so yes - nm
