True statement, thought provoking

NEW YORK – During Monday’s edition of the popular show “The Five” on the Fox News Channel, the panel highlighted National School Choice Week.
In the discussion over school choice and union resistance, Greg Gutfeld noted, “The left is only pro-choice before the kids are born.”

I can't disagree. In general, from what I've observed, the left does feel that way.
No, for me THIS goal sums it up: A fine education - for ALL children. NO bad schools.
[ In Reply To ..]
I perfectly understand and sympathize with a parent willing to abandon a classroom full of children to a bad system to get her own a better education.
However--whether the attitude arises from callousness, abysmal ignorance of the importance of education, bigotry and/or a combination of all--I have profound contempt for those who think bad schools will just have to be good enough those children who can't escape them.

Paying teachers based on - student performances
[ In Reply To ..]
creates excellent teachers. Then EVERY school would be competitive and draw students.
I wonder then if teachers would just hand out - good grades?
[ In Reply To ..]
Just a thought. It seems like something that would start happening right away.
Or put too much emphasis on passing a standardized - test.
[ In Reply To ..]
If they use a standardized test to rate student/teacher performance, the emphasis can shift from education and learning to test preparation.
As we know too well from the Bush years and - even more Texas's experiment. nm

So what happens to the excellent teacher whose students have challenges (including ability to learn, social issues at home, etc) and perform poorly? And what happens to the so-so teacher who, when given a class full of above-average students, produces average yet acceptable performances? What happens to the excellent teacher whose students are above average yet lack the financial resources in their homes and schools (internet access, computer, cable, books, etc.) and therefore do not test at the same level as those students who do?
Kids are not all alike.

My husband was a teacher, and I know for a fact that what you are saying is true.
How about this for - thought provoking...
[ In Reply To ..]
The right is only pro-life before the kids are born. Seeing as how they're always trying to cut pesky programs to help feed, educate, and keep them healthy afterwards, I think it works.
Is it true, then? - Is the Left
[ In Reply To ..]
really pro-choice only before kids are born?
Here's a clue... you heard that on Fox, right? Therefore, - Magic 8 Ball says...
[ In Reply To ..]
Very doubtful.
What does Fox have to do with it? - Watch the video yourself.

I don't think it matters where she heard it... - tvc15
[ In Reply To ..]
What matters is whether she does or does not understand what they were talking about. In this case, it sounds like the word "pro-choice" is conjuring up, for the poster, an argument of a different color.
the discussion was about school choice - not abortion rights - fyi

“The left is only pro-choice before the kids are born.”

[ In Reply To ..]
The commentator used the word "pro-choice" in a sentence, but they were discussing the issues surrounding school choice.
I hope all readers understand... - tvc15
[ In Reply To ..]
This soundbite was in reference to school choice. It was not a pro-life/pro-choice discussion.
To contradict the quoted statement - cet
[ In Reply To ..]
therefore, the Left is NOT pro-choice after the kids are born? They don't have a right to choose the school they want to attend?
to be clear, I do believe the left is FOR school choice - tvc15
[ In Reply To ..]
People already have school choice. - vv
[ In Reply To ..]
If you want to send your kid to a private school, that's your choice. Just don't expect taxpayer dollars for it, especially to fund religious schools...that would be a direct violation of the separation of church and state.
yes, and isn't it interesting... s/m - MTMT

that I paid for two children to attend private school, yet I STILL had to pay taxes to the public schools (read: government run) that don't do nearly as good a job.
Where does he get that idea? - RC

I didn't watch the video because I prefer to read articles, but I do believe parents should have more control over what schools their kids go to.
