Excuse me if I fail to see the humor involved in this pic. Perhaps the president should try and help Americans who need jobs instead of giving money to other countries to help them provide jobs for their people. Not only does he want to destroy the coal industry but he won't let us drill more here even though he funded other countries with our money for them to drill. Not to mention now allowing a pipeline that would provide jobs here as well. BO stinks and he needs to go!
While we're on jobs....sm - JTBB

Did you notice how Mitt said he would create 12 mil jobs in the next four years? Did you also notice that's the expected number by the CBO of jobs that will be created within the next four years regardless of who's president?

And hey, how about another war in Iran? How about Syria? Or better yet, lets just go after Russia since Romney just threw down the gauntlet for Putin.
I truly get tired of this tit for tat crap - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
What Mitt said about job creating in the next four years doesn't change the fact that our current president has actually hurt job creation in our country. Not only has he hurt small business owners with over-regulation but he has continually undermined the American people when it comes to jobs. Lets give more taxpayer dollars to fund jobs in other countries and refuse "shovel ready" jobs here in our own country. Let's destroy an entire industry like coal that many Americans depend on for their livelihood. Let's give a military contract to another country instead of employing a company in Kansas. What about that?

As for another war, how about President Obama go into another country without the approval of congress. How about President Obama stand with certain countries to get rid of their leaders, leaders that weren't great people but would actually work with the US to be replaced by those who hate us. Yes, we helped Libya and helped oust Mubarak but we turn our head when Syria slaughters their people. We turned our head when Iran was killing their people. So why help some and not others? Either we help them all or we stay out of it all.

These are things that have actually happened or are happening. So Mitt would create the same amount of jobs in 4 years as the CBO projects anyway. Whoopty doo! How many jobs has President Obama screwed us over on? The pipeline jobs, other oil drilling jobs, military contract, etc. Or how about the taxpayer dollars wasted on solar energy companies? That really helped the American people! Two thumbs up there!
Coal, drilling, natural gas...sm - JTBB

At what point do you think we need to take responsibility for the planet we live on? When its too late? Let's just take drilling. The practices used are not safe. That's why you have folks who can set their drinking water out of the kitchen faucet on fire and have a wave of earthquakes hitting Texas (of all places). Government regulations are the ONLY thing we have to protect the general population from such practices. The problem is that these multi billion dollar companies pay less in lawsuits from individuals and fines than they would if they had to make their practices safe. So he invested in alternative energy. Good for him! He needs to keep trying. Its renewable and keeps US from destroying the planet...that would be the planet that we depend on btw.

As for foreign policy, you really don't want to go into a discussion about illegal wars. And yeah, the US has a grand history of helping folks obtaining power only to take them down later. Keep in mind, we liked the Taliban before we hated them.

As far as saving everyone around the globe, by bottom line is just like my grandmother used to tell me. If you can't take care of yourself, then you can't take care of anyone else. Realistically, we are not in a position right now (particularly financially) to get into another war.

BTW...how many times did Romney in his speech actually mention those folks still in Afgan? Zero.
If our president considers - sm

Mother Earth to be so precious and in need of protection, then why would he give money to other countries to drill? What about the military contract given to another country? That had nothing to do will environmental issues. That was literally giving jobs to another country instead of to Americans.

I agree with you that we should keep our nose out of other countries. I 100% agree with your grandma. That is a very smart comment. My point was why was Iraq a bad war but Afgan the war to fight. Why was Libya taken care of and Mubarak ousted but not Syria and Iran. We should have stayed out of all of that mess. The Middle East will always be fighting and we just need to let them fight it amongst themselves.

What does Romney not mentioning those folks still in Afgan have to do with anything? For that matter, Obama should have already brought them home. I also don't see Obama closing Gitmo like he promised either.

Neither Romney nor Obama are perfect. All I can say is that I've seen what Obama has done in 4 years and I don't want another 4 years of it. If Romney fails in his first term, I will not vote for him again.
I agree about the middle east...sm - JTBB
[ In Reply To ..]
I think we need to stay completely out of all of that. From an athiest point of view the whole region is a theologically driven mad house, and yeah, that includes Israel.

Yeah, I hate we're still in Afgan, and I don't think either war, Afgan or Iraq, were necessary. However, when you look at Romney, he doesn't even want a timeline on getting out of Afgan..at all. Endless war? With that in mind and the fact that he's already trying to pick a fight with Putin, if he's willing to send our military out to further the cause of the war machine, then the very least he can do is acknowledge them in a speech where he would be so provocative.

Gitmo needs to go. I hate it, it's wrong, but Romney isn't going to close it either.

As to drilling in other countries, I have to say I have no idea...lol. I'll have to bone up on that subject. However, if you want to look at outsourcing, Romney's record on that isn't exactly pretty either.

If I had my choice of a president, I personally would go much, much farther left. In the meantime, I'll go with the closest thing I can get.
Closing Gitmo-what would we do with the prisoners there? - backwards typist

They're there for a reason and I certainly don't want them in jails in our country. Look at the crap IL(?I think) is going through now with the prisoner who is raising cain about his rights.

I definitely don't think they should have built that fancy soccer (was that it?) field either that we paid for.

Romney's plan is very scarey to those of us who actually care about the planet we live on. It is a shame that our planet is being destroyed by greedy corporations and a politician who actually want to lift regulations on these corporations so they can destroy it more. I am so worried about my children and grandchildren who will have to face the destruction more than I do.
I agree with alternative energies... - SK1
[ In Reply To ..]
But technology is not there. Research should continue, but in a considered, financially responsible way (see my list of failed green energy companies funded by the stimulus).

Want to stop oil drilling? Stop driving. Stop flying. Stop doing a lot of other things, too. Most people are not aware of how many products they use contain petroleum products nor do they want to change their lifestyle to reduce the amount of oil and oil products consumed by the American population. The United States is the #1 consumer of oil.

Here's a small list of some of the things that contain petroleum.

http://www.ranken-energy.com/Products%20from%20Petroleum.htm

Think that you're saving the environment by driving that hybrid car? Read these. Turns out they're actually more damaging to the environment than a regular car:

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/are-electric-cars-built-in-a-green-way.htm

http://theweek.com/article/index/216263/are-electric-cars-actually-bad-for-the-environment
I have to ask - this
[ In Reply To ..]
though. I saw them compare gas vehicles to the electric including mining of stuff for the electric vehicles, but I did not notice them taking into consideration that if we keep using gas we need to drill more oil and destroy the environment even more than we are. If they are going to compare, they need to compare from start to finish with both type of vehicles.

Truly I am not saying that the current electric car is the way and we do need more technology to develop real environmentally safe things, but the answer is not to keep doing what we are doing because we are on a short fuse to destroying our planet and all of us will have to make sacrafices to fix the situation.

Assuming you're in Vermont... - SK1
[ In Reply To ..]

I'll assume that since VT in in your moniker.

It's great that your unemployment level is so low, but you need to look at it in context:

  • Vermont's total population ranks 49th in the nation.

  • The white population is 95%.

  • 11% of the people are living below the poverty line.

  • Vermont ranks 13th highest in the US in cost of living.

  • The top 25 employers are healthcare industries, recreational industries and manufacturers.

It's also great if Vermont is proactive with pursuing alternative energy sources but, again, in context, they're not trying to accomodate the number of people/industries that other states are dealing with, so not really fair to judge it by comparing it to other regions.

We have wind farms too - RC

That was coal silt, wasn't it? I was shocked when that happened and it didn't have to happen.

Would you believe they could have sent it to a couple places in PA who have found a way to use coal silt to generate electricity. There's no nasty black smoke, either. It's clean burning from what I understand.

The company stockpiled something that they shouldn't have.

unless they strangle businesses to the point that they can't move forward.

Look what is going on in the coal industry in WV and PA. PA has to follow the rules for bituminous coal regulations, yet the coal is a completely different type and 3/4 of the regulations don't pertain to PA mines. The only thing those regulations do is shut down the mines. They can't comply with something that's not there.

They're building them in my state on top of the mountains and the view is destroyed by them. People living near them are complaining about how noisy they are. Thank heavens I don't live near them.

I'm all for alternatives energy but whether you like it or not, we have to use what's available now until they perfect the alternatives...and I'm not happy that our taxes are going to provide the money needed to build coal and oil plants in other countries.
I suppose - you would

be happier if they build prettier coal plants in those mountains. Then when they remove regulations you could have more and more things go wrong like the one in TN. That killed lots of birds, fish and lots of other wildlife. It was pretty noisy for the people that were woke up by the noise of their homes being knocked down by the poisonous silt.

That person did not qualify for the specifics that Obama placed under the Dream Act. Not only was he too old to qualify but he has been in trouble in our country before. It is a shame that our own people who are merely just trying to enforce the federal law on illegal immigration will be too afraid to do their job because this administration seems to turn a blind eye to illegals who are breaking the law. He might as well just declare amnesty for illegals because that is pretty much what he is doing in a round about way. Just another example of watching what he does and not just believing everything he says. The man is a master at speaking out of both sides of his mouth...as are many politicians.

"this" administration. Maybe you're new to this country but this has been going on for a long time by both parties. I'm sure the libs were complaining about this when Bush was in and pubs were complaining of this when Clinton was in and so on and so on. This is an American problem, not just "this" administrations problem. Nobody does anything about illegals, that's why there are so many of them here.

BOTH parties are responsible for allowing illegals here and yes it needs to be stopped. Not sure why your blaming "this" administration only.

This administration has handled things differently... - SK1

[ In Reply To ..]
They've not only not done anything about illegal immigration, they've encouraged it. (See lawsuit cited above). They have also declined to deal with the issue in states where illegal immigration is creating a real problem (i.e., Arizona), in fact, making it more difficult for them to deal with it on their own.

Not to mention the cost of illegal immigration to Americans:

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/07/02/immigration-costs-fair-amnesty-educations-costs-reform/

Not to mention crime:

http://www.usillegalaliens.com/impacts_of_illegal_immigration_crime_summary.html

Now, before anyone flames me about being racist or elitist, I think that the Dream Act was a good thing. I think we should support the citizenship of these folks. But the rest of illegal immigrants who are flooding our borders need to be stopped and this administration has impeded that tremendously.

Kind of - funny

[ In Reply To ..]
I do not agree with the Dream Act. One of the things I don't agree with the democrats on, though I don't believe the actual Dream Act has passed. Have to do more research on that. I'm sorry, but I don't believe the illegal situation has gotten any worse under this administration than others. Yes, it is a growing problem, but it has been progressively growing over the years.

Why do I keep hearing - RC
