Maybe it's because it's already too late for them to upstage the National Guard, so now that the photo op has gone bust, it's back to BAU with last-ditch stump stops in Lean Obama Territories, which almost NOBODY is paying attention to. It's all good. Their decision to stay out of the way and let the big boys do their jobs is probably a wise one.

They stated from day 1 they needed monetary donations, not a busload of Romnesia patients to further clog the streets with people struggling for hours to get to work.

This is probably just another photo op with Romney in his polished black loafers, without a speck of mud vs. Obama walking the muddy streets in more appropriate boots. No, I'm not making footwear an issue, I'm just recognizing the deceit vs the true compassion and ability to take charge and get things done NOW, unlike the Republican handling of Katrina.

People had a week of increasing notice that this disaster was building. Most victims aren't standing up to their knees in water needing someone to bring them a blanket and sandwich. They left and are...elsewhere taking care of themselves, going off to work, etc., while the experts deal with the big, big job of "dewatering" and "unwatering" (Sandy taught me those terms. :)

An example of things that are being done is that the government is working with insurance companies to lower the deductibles on disaster claims against homeowners insurance policies. I haven't heard the details, but no doubt this will benefit many Hobokeners (ites?) busy running up motel bills while their homes start molding. Another is making low-interest loans available for repairs.

Both ways of helping people help themselves. Without this kind of assistance, BTW, some lower-income areas previously home to many, might not be rebuilt but instead degenerate into crime and rat-ridden urban horror stories.

They can't wait. They need food and water, heat and electricity. They need MONEY. Obama promised no red tape, which means FEMA should be there already taking apps. and handing over money so those people can get back to a more normal life.

those things end up (not so surprisingly, there has been no announcement on where the photo op props are destined) and in spite of how hard the campaign tried to conjure up a fleeting presidential image for their candidate by exploiting the crisis, they ended up with a misguided drop-in-the-bucket effort that made them look not only foolish, but insignificant as well, when compared to the scope, power and authority a now well-oiled restructured FEMA wields. It kinda flies in the face of the GOPs disaster management policies, especially the few murmurs we've heard from Romney about his proposed inefficient and more costly state funding and privatization schemes. I guess they think vouchers are the answer to just about everything.

So far, the only thing the WalMart donations fall-out and mouthpiece Rush Limbaugh's "fat fool" tirade against Governor Christie have accomplished is to help bring even more attention to President Obama's kept 2008 FEMA redo campaign promise. Poor Rush. He probably perceives some kind of threat to his undisputed fat fool top dog status.
