It saves the taxpayers' money by not spending a lot of time debating stuff the POTUS will only veto. The House may waste a lot of taxpayers' money debating and voting for 50+ bills that the president will never sign, but the Senate refuses to do it.

The guy who wins the White House sets the agenda. If conservatives win the Senate in midterm elections, then look for that veto pen to come out. I’ve been watching media coverage of angry Americans at our southern border waiving signs and yelling slogans, insisting that the children – most of whom are refugees of the drug war we’ve created -- “go home” to the violence and death that war has created, and I wonder who these angry Americans are. I also wonder where their parents or grandparents or other ancestors came from, and what they were fleeing from or hoped for when they landed in America. I’m not suggesting we allow in anyone who wants to come here, but these are desperate children. Whatever happened to the generosity, decency, and big-heartedness of this country? Emma Lazarus’s poem engraved in 1903 on the Statue of Liberty reads: “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of our teeming shore. Send these, the homeless tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!” Why are we now allowing the hateful side of America to take center stage?

It seems to me that the U.S. supported free elections that were not entirely successful (as is frequent in first attempts at more democratic forms of government) This article points out that while the more democratic form of government was not successful at winning, they made an unprecedented showing and that the door is now open. They will have a tough time to go through. It is a fine line for the U.S. as to how much involvement. Don't forget the Shah of Iran and Hosni Mubarak. Yes, our support of these 2 made things look stable, but were they really? Were they really what the people of those countries wanted? or did it just provide a government for the U.S. to deal with and get what we wanted?

My question is, how, as a nation with our stature and resources we cannot figure out a way to provide humanitarian aide to these people, these children, who have presented at our border. For God's sake you've got the Bundy idiots pointing guns at them and "guarding" the border.

Imagine what it must be like to be in the Middle East with all of the refugee camps. I suppose that is what would be going on here, except they didn't bring their parents...very strange.

On November 25, the afternoon after Election Day in Honduras, several hundred red-flag-waving protesters marched through the streets of Tegucigalpa in support of Xiomara Castro, the woman they claimed is the rightful president of the country. The next day, hundreds of students took up the cause, staving off police and teargas. And the following morning, even more students poured into the streets, adding their voices to the crescendo of outrage that has roiled the country amid allegations of vote-buying by the winning party, election fraud and ongoing murders of opposition supporters.

Honduras’s November 24 election was supposed to have been a signal moment, the first time since the United States–backed military coup that citizens had a meaningful opportunity to express their political will. But with the defeat of Castro, who ran as the candidate of the left-leaning LIBRE party, and the victory of the National Party’s Juan Orlando Hernández, there are real questions over whether the people’s will has been heard. Castro has called for a recount and vowed to challenge the results, but even so, the likely outcome for Honduras is four more years of hardline neoliberal leadership—from the presidential palace if not from congress.

Honduras was in crisis well before the coup, but the removal of the democratically elected president Manuel Zelaya in 2009 pushed the country into free fall. Violent deaths climbed to nearly twenty a day. The country’s second city, San Pedro Sula, surpassed Mexico’s Ciudad Juárez as the murder capital of the world in 2011. Inequality surged. And as social spending dropped, debt rose steadily. “From 2010-2012, the poverty rate increased by 13.2 percent while the extreme poverty rate increased by 26.3 percent,” reads a report by the Center for Economic and Policy Research. The report continues, “Honduras now has the most unequal distribution of income in Latin America.”

The election of Hernández as president means a continuation of the policies that have driven the country into such disaster. As the candidate of the ruling National Party, and the president of congress during the last four years, Hernández is very much a creature of the conservative establishment. During his tenure in congress, he oversaw the creation of a new military police force, which was turned out onto the streets just before the election; as a candidate, he continued to beat the drums for security, promising to put a “soldier on every corner” and to pair soldiers with police for urban patrols. Meanwhile, his colleagues in the ruling National Party have promised to further open the country to foreign investment. The Economist reported that prior to the inauguration at the end of January, the National Party may push through a new round of cuts in order to qualify for a new IMF loan.

And yet, if the election didn’t usher in the change for which many hoped, the story is nonetheless more complicated than presidential winners and losers. As much as Hernández intends to entrench the status quo, he will also be forced to contend with a changing country—one where he will face both a potent new political force, in the form of Castro’s party, LIBRE, as well as the urban and rural grassroots movements that have been pushing back throughout the country.

“If we sit back and carefully study the result of these elections, I have no doubt that it is a triumph for LIBRE,” said Hugo Noé Pino, who is the former president of the Central Bank and Ambassador to the United States and who now supports LIBRE. Official results posted by electoral authorities gave LIBRE 29 per cent of the vote, and with it, almost a third of the seats in congress. The National Party claimed 37 percent, the Liberals claimed 20 percent and almost 14 percent went to the new Anti-Corruption Party. “This has no precedent,” said Pino.

A refugee is a person who is outside their home country because they have suffered (or feared) persecution on account of race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or because they are a member of a persecuted social category of persons or because they are fleeing a war. That is much different than what is going on now.

These are not refugees. They are not in danger (according to the president of their country). They are citizens of another country who are being given everything here for free. Free clothing, housing, education, healthcare, phone, drivers license, and even lawyers. These are adult illegals registering as minors to attend high school. These are adults with gray hair, trying to pass off that they are minors to get a free high school education. These are people old enough to vote, but that's the whole point. Change the demogaphics of a state to always vote democrat. Sure if you are a democrat you're okay with that, as long as the vote goes for a democrat. If it was a republican doing this you know there would be you know what to pay.

As for children?...do some research. These are people in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, etc. Yes there are some children, but I see lot of adults. There was one lovely picture of a woman flipping us of using her middle fingers (both hands - for that wonderful double whammy). Antoher man flipping us off and oh, the best one yet a man grabbing his man body part while his friend next to him was flipping us of. Oh yes, then the ones who are in their 20s with gang tattoos who admit to torturing people.

Yick Wo v. Hopkins (1886): The Supreme Court ruled that the Constitution's 14th Amendment stating, "Nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws," does apply to all persons "without regard to any differences of race, of color, or of nationality," and to "an alien, who has entered the country, and has become subject in all respects to its jurisdiction, and a part of its population, although alleged to be illegally here."

Wong Wing v. U.S. (1896): The Court further stated regarding the 5th and 6th amendments to the Constitution that "... it must be concluded that all persons within the territory of the United States are entitled to the protection guaranteed by those amendments, and that even aliens shall not be held to answer for a capital or other infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand jury, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law."

More recently in Plyler v. Doe (1982): The Supreme Court struck down a Texas law prohibiting enrollment of illegal aliens in public school. The Court stated, "The illegal aliens who are plaintiffs in these cases challenging the statute may claim the benefit of the Equal Protection Clause, which provides that no State shall 'deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.' Whatever his status under the immigration laws, an alien is a 'person' in any ordinary sense of that term... The undocumented status of these children vel non does not establish a sufficient rational basis for denying them benefits that the State affords other residents."

I could go on, but there's a sampling for your reading "pleasure." Those are just a few of the laws of this great nation. If you truly want the POTUS to follow the laws as you keep saying, then you should realize that he actually is following the laws.

When Obama was running for reelection in 2012, he was criticized repeatedly by conservatives as deporting more illegals than any other president in U.S. history and failing to enact immigration reform as promised. Now for political theater and pandering to the fear of the far right of the GOP, they say exactly the opposite for the 2014 midterm elections. Amend the William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008, and watch those deportation numbers skyrocket. Then when 2016 rolls around, they'll be right back to whining that Democrats are not friendly to immigrants because they did not accomplish immigration reform and deported them in record numbers.

If you pay attention, you can't help but notice that the rhetoric changes back and forth and the voters are being played, right? Nothing to fear here, people. Same old GOP tactics as usual.
