Ten GOP Senators crossing the aisle to support civil rights is a lot these days. Of the 32 who voted against, through the entire process in the past days only one stood up to say why. No grandstanding for the electorate on this one.
Speaker of the House Boehner, still in thrall to the deep red wing of his party promises to stop it in the House., although he has enough votes to pass it.
“Anyone who is a student of history knows that our history books are littered with those public figures who said that we just can’t end that discrimination based on race, we can't end that discrimination based on age, based on disability, based on gender,” said Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.). “Think about their place in history today, and I won’t recount their names. Speaker Boehner: Think about the party you belong to.”
In the meantime, good for the Senate.

or "you reap what you sow." The deck has been stacked, so even if there was some natural tendency toward such balancing to occur, it's not being allowed to.
Which means we can't sit around waiting for the universe to take care of things for us, we have to be PROACTIVE. And being cognizant of that actually is a comfort, in a different kind of way, even if also realizing that the forces being battled against (the greed mongers, the intolerant, etc.) are nigh overwhelming sometimes.
