MTStars has a limited control over the Ads being shown to it's visitors by Google AdSense.

Google shows Ads via contextual advertising (based on the webpage content) and behavioral targeting (based on visitor's recent Google searches/browsing history etc.)

However, you can always define your Ad preferences for Google Ads here:

I have no idea why it was changed. Up until recently, it said advertisement.

I don't see what the big deal is about the ads. - Almost all sites have ads.

I would rather have ads than have MT Stars ask for a monthly fee or something to use the boards.

Sometimes the ads are annoying, depending on what they are, but you always have the option to close it, which I do. Big whoop!

I was actually amused and irritated and wondering if this was my own personal ad targeted at me or others were seeing it and what might have triggered it. (I have no arrest record).

Of the responses, the only info offered was from MTStars who pointed out they have little control over Google targeted advertising and pointed the way to an opt-out feature.

I just pulled up this, though, which is kind of interesting. My own name, however, is Jewish-sounding, although I'm not.

"Instantcheckmate.com, which labels itself the "Internet's leading authority on background checks," placed both ads. A statistical analysis of the company's advertising has found it has disproportionately used ad copy including the word "arrested" for black-identifying names, even when a person has no arrest record."

I was wondering if VISITING a site might somehow "attach" a profile so one might bring it back here. Somehow I don't think sites such as Breitbart, for instance, attract a lot of blacks, but I could believe their hostility and other characteristics might attract a disproportionate number of people with felony records.

Just call me curious.

Any site you visit creates a profile google uses to direct advertising your way (whether that profile is accurate or not).

for a bit got ads advertising flying lessons, become a pilot and make lots of money. The picture looked like a professional pilot welcoming people on a big commercial flight, but there was no company address or location, just use their contact field. I didn't.

I had actually been on that browse because I read that drug cartels were hiring American soldiers as hit men.

My old dinosaur TV died. We always hooked up the computer to the TV to watch movies and TV shows from free online sites. First let me just say that I couldn't live without Google. We have practicallly every resource at our fingertips that allows us to do a great job. But sometimes it just cracks me up what comes up in the search engine. I typed in Dallas Renal Group to look up a doctor's name. At the top of the results page I saw Texas Dance Bands with a website address for a talent booking agency. Thanks, Google, for providing my giggle for the day! ...
