Pulling the Plug on Working Families to Give Tax Cuts to Millionaires

of bullet points from C&L. Just a suggestion. We have already seen what vast amounts of information lie between bullet points.

Only a suggestion....or hint, as you call them. :)

The elephant in the room is that Medicare is broken. Everyone knows that, Democrats included. Ryan is not going to rob anyone of anything. What he proposed is similar to what Obama proposed, government run health care exchanges with tax credits and vouchers to help seniors get private insurance to lessen the burden on the government, because in case you had not noticed, TS, the government is broke. We have moved from a 13 trillion dollar deficit to a 14-trillion dollar one.

Now if the Democrats have another way to keep seniors with some kind of health care rather than pouring more money into a failed program, then please, let one of them step up and for the love of pete say so.

Ryan's plan destroys Medicare and Medicaid among other helpful programs - There is a better way

[ In Reply To ..]
He isn't going to win on destroying those programs. He may have some other ideas that get included in the final plan, but America will not stand for seeing its support programs go away. We're better than that. We're also smarter. We will find a way.

Obvoiusly you haven't read it either. LOL. - PLEASE. Go read it and

[ In Reply To ..]
not rely on Dem talking points. He is not destroying, he is replacing.

You DO realize that Medicare cannot continue like it is, Medicaid cannot continue like it is...they are fraught with waste and they are going broke.

The government is BROKE. What part of 14 trillion dollar deficit do you not understand??
I heard him presenting it himself and read more about it as well - so I really have heard enough about it
[ In Reply To ..]
The guy is just out there because people think he looks good. His program hurts Americans. It isn't going to get very far. Americans won't stand for it.
Oh, you heard him say he was going to - kill Medicare and Medicaid.
[ In Reply To ..]
well, I didn't listen to him talk about it, I read the proposal. And what you describe is not in it.

I repeat. What part of 14 trillion dollar deficit do you not understand?
Yes, didn't you hear his speeches? I've been listening - and I did not like what I heard
[ In Reply To ..]
After he spoke, I was disappointed to hear that anyone would want to go that direction. The commentators who followed also verified that his plan is to destroy Medicare and Medicaid, etc. I can't remember what the etc parts were at the moment. There is no doubt that his plan is to destroy those programs.
And you did you stop listening when he - explained the replacement?
[ In Reply To ..]
the only thing clear is that you cannot see through your bias. However, as an Independent worried about the 14 trillion dollar deficit, which seems to mean nothing to you, at least he is talking about cutting spending...which you and the Dems have YET to do.
No, I heard the part about the vouchers, which will not pay the medical bills Medicare paid - Coupons are not going to pay the bills
[ In Reply To ..]
I did hear about the vouchers that are supposed to take the place of those programs. Doctors are not going to accept patients paying with vouchers because they know that once those vouchers are gone, they aren't going to have the money to pay the rest of the bill. That plan is very bad. It sounds 'cute' to have little vouchers, unless you are the person whose life and health depends on them.
He said he wanted to use a government - exchange with tax credits
[ In Reply To ..]
to help the folks get private insurance. Which is exactly what Obama proposed in Obamacare. You like it for the whole country in Obamacare but you don't like it for seniors because a Republican suggested it???

Geeezzzz. This kind of thinking is why we are in the shape we are in. If you really cared about seniors you would not want them stuck in a program that is broke being funded by a government that is broke.

Again...what part of 14 trillion dollar deficit (yep, we crossed another trillion line) do you not understand??
He proposed something entirely different - a voucher program - and no I do not want it
[ In Reply To ..]
I've gone years with no insurance at all, because of our stinking insurance system, trying to hold out long enough to be eligible for Medicare, and now he wants to dismantle it and give me vouchers. His plan lacks common sense in many areas, but this one affects me, and yes, I am angry about it.
When I listened to him he didn't sound very intelligent - but was awfully proud of himself
[ In Reply To ..]
I didn't think he was as smart as he thinks he is.
But what about his Six-Pack! That's what people keep talking about - Oh my!
[ In Reply To ..]
All I keep hearing is about how "cute" he is and how he has a six-pack. He is apparently in great shape because he gets up very early every morning and works out. Really! That's so important to me a an American citizen to know that the person who is taking my Medicare benefits away from me has a cute little six-pack.
Geeeeezzzzzz. We have a 14 trillion dollar - deficit and all you want to
[ In Reply To ..]
do is take personal potshots at the only person trying to address it.

If you read his proposal you would know he is trying to save your healthcare. Medicare is not sustainable in its current form. He knows it, the Democrats know it. The difference is, he is trying to address it before you lose everything, and before the country goes down the toilet completely financially.

He is talking about basically the same kind of insurance exchange that Obama put into Obamacare. Are you against that? If you aren't, then you shouldn't be making fun of Mr. Ryan.

Right now Mr. Ryan is the ONLY politician trying to address the problem. The Democrats know there is a problem, but they sure haven't come up with any solution. So far all I have heard from them is how bad the other guy's idea is.

If so, then where is THEIR proposal to fix it? Oh I forgot...Obama's 1.3 trillion spending budget. That is real helpful when we are 14 trillion in the hole, don't you think?

Seriously...think about this objectively and look seriously at proposals and don't just assume that the Democratic talking points are in fact...fact.
Here we go again with the personal attacks. - Rreally? Do we have to
[ In Reply To ..]
do this?
First of all...vouchers only part of it. Second, - why aren't you mad at
[ In Reply To ..]
the Democrats for raiding the Social Security Trust Fund to fund other programs and that is why it is insolvent now??

The main part of his program has to do with an insurance exchange, much like the one Obama has in Obamacare. You like that for the whole country but not for seniors?

The man is trying to SAVE your health care. We are running a 14 TRILLION dollar deficit. Medicare is not sustainable as it is. The Democrats know that, yet they bring nothing helpful to the table other than say how BAD the other guy's plan is. Doesn't that concern you at all?

Did he mention any tax increases for millionaires - and billionaires? I thought not.nm
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
No, he didn't mention any tax increases - at all. They already
[ In Reply To ..]
pay 41% of all personal taxes paid into the treasury (the top 5% of all wage earners). So that leaves ALL the rest of us splitting 49%...95% of taxpayers.

There is no way in any reality that is not fair. They are already paying more than their "fair share."

Geez.
No, they aren't, but they can afford the PR so people can be told that until they believe it - In fact there were more tax breaks for $$$ in his
[ In Reply To ..]
Ryan's plan did include more tax breaks for the rich, at the same time funds were cut for the middle class and those in poverty. If I had a PR consultant and a Congressman or two in my pocket, I could fight that, but I don't.

I agree that There is no doubt that his plan is to destroy those programs - and the poorer people in it.

The counry can't afford the Middle Class. - We are expendable.
[ In Reply To ..]
That explains a lot.
So what...just ride the bankruptcy train - to the end of the track??
[ In Reply To ..]
We are PAST the point that raising taxes on anybody will get us out of this mess. We have to STOP spending like we are. We can't continue at this pace. You are going to have to decide which entitlements are the most important and fund those.

You DO realize we are running a 14 trillion dollar deficit, right????
Step #1: Stop Corporate Welfare and Subsidies - Step #2: Stop all fraud and abuse
[ In Reply To ..]
Let me reiterate:

Step #1: Stop Corporate Welfare and Subsidies to those who have Congress in their back pocket.

Step #2: Evaluate all programs, catch and prosecute those who are cheating on their taxes.

Step #3: Catch and prosecute doctors for fraudulent practices regarding Medicare and Medicaid. Those of us in the health care field know that there are many doctors who need to be fined or put in prison for fraud.

Step #3: Catch and prosecute anyone who is involved in fraudulent behavior.

Step #4: Bring in more IRS agents.

Step #5: Look at all of the riders going through on bills and stop the gravy train politicians are on.
See inside where your points - are addressed.
[ In Reply To ..]
You said, let me re-iterate:

Step #1: Stop Corporate Welfare and Subsidies to those who have Congress in their back pocket. ***See Paul Ryan's proposal. He identified loopholes he wanted to close to end some "corporate welfare."

Step #2: Evaluate all programs, catch and prosecute those who are cheating on their taxes. *** well, since head of the Treasury Department was caught cheating on his taxes, good luck. The IRS reports to him.

Step #3: Catch and prosecute doctors for fraudulent practices regarding Medicare and Medicaid. Those of us in the health care field know that there are many doctors who need to be fined or put in prison for fraud. *** that would be fine, if they would do it. They never have, and that is what is wrong with Medicare, that is what is wrong with ALL entitlement programs. And to add insult to injury, Democrats raided the Social Security trust fund to keep paying entitlements, so now it is insolvent too.

Step #3: Catch and prosecute anyone who is involved in fraudulent behavior. *** again, good luck, when the guy running the Treasury Department got caught cheating on his own taxes.

Step #4: Bring in more IRS agents. *** oh, add MORE to the deficit hiring more IRS agents who report to the guy who cheated on his taxes.

Step #5: Look at all of the riders going through on bills and stop the gravy train politicians are on. *** well, Obama said he was going to stop the "pork" and you see how much "pork" he has stopped. That would be zero.

What we need is a change of administration and change of ideas, because the same old same old is NOT going to work anymore.

No, the CURRENT programs are hurting the country - We are broke, and someone with a brain
[ In Reply To ..]
needs to find alternatives. That SURE is not Obama, Reid, Pelosi, etc. THEY are the ones probably singing in private.."if I only had a brain". If we continue the way we are, there will be no Medicare, Medicaid, Soc. Security. We are taking more out than we are putting in. There will be nothing left soon in any of these programs. Get real !!
there will be no Medicare, Medicaid, Soc. Security - because Ryan wants to end those programs.
[ In Reply To ..]
While the rich get richer, the plan is also to get rid of the middle class so that America becomes a country where only the very rich and the very poor are allowed to exist.

Those of you who adore Ryan are only hurting yourselves.
The poor get to stay because they are needed, to work for the rich - I think I see where this is going
[ In Reply To ..]
Oh well, it was nice while it lasted.
Before they do that, they have to extinguish the - middle class. Then let the slavery begin. nm

Seniors will pay more - Truthseeker
[ In Reply To ..]
When House Budget Committee Chairman Paul D. Ryan unveiled his blueprint this week for cutting federal spending by $5.8 trillion over the next decade, he argued that a revamping of the government's health safety net would rein in skyrocketing costs.

But because commercial insurers cost more to run than government plans, the Wisconsin Republican's proposal to privatize Medicare starting in 2022 would actually spark a dramatic increase in how much the nation spends on healthcare for the elderly, according to an independent analysis by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.

Even as the federal government cut its own spending, seniors would end up paying almost twice as much out of their own pockets â or more than $12,510 a year, the CBO estimates. Altogether, the total cost of insurance would be higher.........

........This voucher system â or "premium support," as Ryan calls it â would give the typical 65-year-old American $8,000 annually to buy a health plan, about the same amount of money that analysts expect the Medicare program would spend on that senior in 2022 under the current program.

But the CBO report says the money won't be enough. The cost to buy private insurance, plus the projected out-of-pocket spending that the 65-year-old would have to pay for medical care in 2022, would total about $20,510 per year, according to the CBO, which both Republicans and Democrats rely on to independently evaluate the effects of proposed legislation.

That would leave the senior to pay the difference, an estimated $12,510.
That is just so unacceptable - The guy lacks compassion
[ In Reply To ..]
I know he's young and still wet behind the ears, but he presents this program as if it was the ideal solution to all our problems, when it hurts Americans. No, it won't hurt those who have money to burn, but it hurts anyone who isn't rich and has the misfortune to grow old or become disabled or lose their income.
Did you read what she posted? It is only - a projection and it doesn't

granny rant on a PROJECTED amount a 65-year-old will have to pay in 2022? SERIOUSLY???? In the face of a 14 trillion dollar deficit??? If we keep going like this until 2022 the last thing seniors are going to have to worry about is $12,000 difference in health care.

You are freaking unbelievable, you know that? You cannot look at it objectively without partisan bias for even 2 seconds. If his was Obama's idea you would be singing its praises.

THIS is why the country is in the mess its in.
Medicare - Varesa
[ In Reply To ..]
I would venture that almost all seniors, including the TP, want their Medicare left alone. Amusingly they say, "keep government off my health care", and in the next breath say, "don't touch my Medicare".

Ryan wants to put seniors at the mercy of the insurance industry which is insane. If the industry is willing to insure seniors, the premiums will be off the charts and beyond their means.

This safety net for our seniors must be left intact.
So, genius, what happens when Medicare goes under - and seniors have NOTHING?

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm one of the horror stories of insurance company abuse. They made money on me for many years and then tripled my premium suddenly. Naturally I couldn't afford it and had to give it up. Do you blame me for not wanting to depend on that same insurance industry for my retirement years, if I should ever be able to retire? I will avoid dealing with insurance companies any way I can, but I won't have to, because they've already made it clear that they don't want me. Also, let me make it clear here that I didn't have any catastrophic illness, but just high blood pressure which is completely controlled by medication. That is why they priced me out. Others have similar stories that I've seen on here. I am not an exception. Yes, I think insurance companies are evil. Angry, you bet. Want them in control of Medicare? No way! I'd better stop now because I don't want to get started on this topic. LOL.
The country has been "at the mercy" of - out of control spending
[ In Reply To ..]
and the country has almost lost totally and completely (deficit of 14 trillion and climbing) and frankly I have nothing more to give to entitlements and neither does the country (obviously, with a 14 trillion dollar deficit). So if you want to ride the medicare train until it permanently derails be my guest. Either way, you are going to end up with private insurance or no insurance or a bankrupt country. Take your pick.

If you like Obamacare you should like Ryan's plan. Same thing Obama proposed, insurance exchange run by the government.

Sigh.
Obama's plan gives me insurance coverage. Ryan's plan takes it away - I choose Obama's plan

You can call it peaches and cream, but it is what it is, taking money away from Medicare so that Medicare is dismantled, a well as Medicaid. Call it anything you like. It is what it is.

Medicare is paying out more than it brings in. It will be insolvent by 2017.  Social Security has until 2037 and then *poof* all gone. The future is bleak for us baby-boomers unless something is done right here and right now.

From May 2009:   Medicare is now paying out more than it receives and it faces as a result insolvency in eight years, two years earlier than projected in last year’s report, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner said today in a statement:

From Treasury: “The Medicare Trustees Report makes clear today there is no more important long-term fiscal policy measure than gaining control of the growth of Medicare costs by delivering health care services more efficiently. These savings can only be achieved in the context of a larger effort to control health care costs and improve quality more generally. The most effective entitlement reform measure will be a major health reform that helps bring down the growth rate of national health care spending. The Administration is committed to working with Congress to find ways to control runaway growth in both public and private health care expenditures while helping to ensure that all Americans receive the high quality, affordable health care they deserve. The recent commitment of major health stakeholders to help lower the annual growth rate in costs by 1.5% represents a crucial step in that direction.

“The Trustees Reports come to the following conclusions.

» The Medicare program’s financial challenges are larger and more imminent than those of Social Security. Medicare faces demographic challenges, rapidly growing health care costs and the short-term outlook has been hurt by the recession. Medicare’s annual costs were 3.2 percent of GDP in 2008, or nearly three-quarters of Social Security’s, but are projected to surpass Social Security expenditures in 2028 and to reach 11.4 percent of GDP in 2083, compared with 5.9 percent for Social Security.

» Medicare’s Hospital Insurance Trust Fund is projected to become insolvent in 2017, two years earlier than projected in last year’s Report.

» The cost of Medicare’s Supplementary Medical Insurance (SMI) to the federal government is projected to increase rapidly. General revenue financing for SMI is expected to increase from about 1.3 percent of GDP in 2008 to over 4.7 percent in 2083, with continued increases beyond 75 years.

Also today, trustees said that Social Security will start paying out more in benefits than it collects in taxes in 2016, and the giant trust fund will be depleted by fiscal 2037, four years sooner than earlier projections.

There are other places to cut, like closing tax loopholes - nm

Start there. Have everyone pay their fair share. If we ALL help, there won't be a problem. If it's all put on the backs of the middle class alone, we can't handle it. That's what we've been trying to do for years and it isn't working.
You won't find a Republican that wants to include - the rich in cutting anything.nm
