So now we have rants implying President Obama is - in charge of General P's sex life?

His fall from grace is of his own making, and will become part of HIS legacy, not the Obama administration's.

He should have taken a page out of - the Foster Friess playbook

An aspirin between his knees wouldn't have been nearly as costly. Oh, wait. That's for us gals. Sorry, what I meant to say was he could have used a male chastity belt to shut that whole thing down. I understand the technology has advanced way beyond the iron-clad models of yester-years. They now come in lightweight plastic (both with and without locking devices), velcro and canvas, cutting-edge spiral designs, and even ones that account for male plumbing imperatives that do not require removal whenever nature calls them to empty their bladders.

the military after a very long career, career military men love the military much more than it loves them. Afterward, he was in a giant transition, kinda lost without the military structure, not yet with a place and role in the civilian world, or something of that general idea. I didn't take notes. But seemingly it was around this point that he would have misplaced his aspirin.
I heard that interview on NPR this a.m. and - was fascinated. It

was explained in terms I could actually sympathize with, not so much because a highly respected general temporarily misplaced his "moral compass," but because it made sense when put into the context of the daunting task faced by ALL our vets when they transition from military to civilian life. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the same can be said for inmates who have been incarcerated for long sentences after their release from an institution where "free world" values are turned upside down by rigid enforcement of the rules of that counterculture. They too need a certain period of time immediately after release to "deprogram" themselves, in order to have a successful re-entry.

I thought the military friend did a good job of putting a real-life, down-to-earth human face on the situation.
Heard that one on NPR as well. - RC

At least I think it was the same interview. Was it the man who said he had a hard time coming home after war, because he had grown used to his military family and could not really connect with his family family? He said he was treating life like the military and getting into a lot of fights, etc.
Yes, that was a segment on the same program. - PBS, Pacifica and other

non-commercial news and educational outlets often explore in depth the psychological and mental health issues associated with active duty and veterans' medical services delivery systems. Given the results of the Department of Defense study released in 2010 which revealed the 1100 armed forces suicide rate between 2005 and 2009 (one every 36 hours) OUTPACED war casualties in Afghanistan since 2001, this focus is sorely needed, especially since it gets swept under the rug, both by the military and political establishments, their leaders and candidates. That dirty little secret has been with us as long as I can remember. I'm the poster who talked about the consequences my dad and family paid behind this problem after he got caught up in the 1950s VA mental health system that resulted in a 28-year-long institutionalization after serving in the intelligence arm of the military overseas in WWII. Naturally, I was called a liar, among other choice slurs.

It's hard for me to believe that nearly six decades later we have candidates that talk up war while repeatedly forgetting to mention either our troops or vets, that we have funding agendas fueling wars and cutting veteran's health services and trying to eliminate precious resources like NPR and Pacifica who are trying to bring these issues up in broad daylight. Those same pols would be hard pressed to include General David Petraeus in with the rest of all that neat and tidy "collateral damage" misnomer, and I seriously doubt they are willing or able to connect those dots.

I think President Obama gets this, but he's going to have a real uphill battle on his hands to get anything going in the direction of effective measures to confront this shameful national disgrace.
I remember your post - RC

despite being confined to a nursing home for the rest of his life, once released from the VA, he found many ways to enjoy his life. We all found our ways to reconnect with him and were "shocked and awed" to find out he had always been connected to us, even through his darkest days. One of the best lessons he taught me as an adult in those final years was that "sanity is highly overrated," when explaining how much a creative intellect can help a person compensate for even these most catastrophic personal losses and to negotiate those parts of human life that seem so inhumane and unfair. I'm trying to pass that wisdom on to my 35-yo Generation X-er son, who so far is being pretty hard-headed in this regard by reinforcing the boundaries of his declared independence from his fuddy-duddy parents, but he does stand up and pay attention whenever I mention my dad.

dignified with further comment. It's the same reason Darrell Issa's HOC "scandal" failed to move the needle toward the right when voters showed up at the polls. The Petraeus affair story and what was known and when is still in it's nascent stages of unfolding, just like those three Benghazi investigations. Of those, the congressional hearing process carries the least weight in terms of credibility. Darrell Issa and DHS Peter King, even less. What Flox has to say about it, lesser still.

the composition of the extreme wings of the audience and their demonstration of open hostility toward more balanced, informed and respectful political dialog....your post being a prime example. In view of the OP's tone and intent, I thought digression into such areas as discussion of male chastity belts was perfectly appropriate. I resisted the impulse to get more graphic with that thread by posting, for example, multiple images or invoking detailed metaphoric dalliance into the subject. I see you had no problem doing just that, since you seized the opportunity to inflict your juvenile pimp reference onto the rest of us which, as far as I can see, is the only "substance" you could come up with.
So you admit the pimp reference does have to do - with the President? :)) (sm)

for their second season in September. Are you equally as embarrassed for their decision to use him to promote their pop culture headline satire format on a nightly entertainment and celebrity news program, or are you just hacked off that the president took the same opportunity to get the same guy, who has been rated the #1 radio personality for the past 20 years, to help him get his message out to a nationwide audience?

I used native English grammatical construct to come up with "racist pathology" by qualifying a noun and well understood medical term (pathology) with another well understood sociopolitical adjective (racist), much in the same way you chose to manipulate our language by lifting DJ Laz's nickname and embedding it within the context of your transparently racist comments when applying it to President Obama and, in the process, transforming it into a highly offensive turn-off.

I trust that answers your question and covers the meager territory of what you seem to believe qualifies as bona fide political rhetoric.

Does military policy "criminalizing" EM affairs extend to - the Army Reserve?

[ In Reply To ..]
It really gets me that Paula Broadwell's book, All In, jumped from number 76,792 on Amazon.com to #111 by mid-day last Friday. Now that she's chief architect of the demise of General Petraeus, a Hollywood producer's dream-come-true, I'm sure her consultant's "expertise" will be lavishly rewarded throughout that phase of the debacle.

Why hasn't SHE resigned from the Reserves after her recent promotion to lieutenant colonel this past August, or has she? I guess it's too much to expect from the more tawdry side of this equation. Territorial "back-off!" emails to a perceived romantic rival who is married with 3 kids, and who, along with her husband, has been a friend of the Petraeus family for years? Really?

So what's the problem? He told his COS to pass it to the FBI. - backwards typist

[ In Reply To ..]
Cantor found out Oct. 27.

"Cantor then asked his chief-of-staff to pass the information along to the head of the FBI, Robert Mueller. Cantor spoke to no one else about the investigation, the aide said."

"Hurricane Sandy delayed the message to Mueller until Oct. 31. Petraeus admitted the extramarital relationship and submitted his resignation nine days later."

Notice the sentence "HURRICANE SANDY DELAYED THE MESSAGE..." Are you blaming the Republican party for this? Unbelievable if you are.

No, not blaming Republicans at all - SI

[ In Reply To ..]
Sorry for the hit and run.

Since Cantor knew, he of all people wouldn't want to protect the president, so he must have seen it as insignificant politically since he didn't leak it.

This is only one person's fault and that is Petraus. It is unfortunate for everyone that this happened.

I don't think there is any deliberate timing. I think Petraus would wish this came out after his testimony so that he won't have to put up with the personal questions (which he does deserve in my opinion btw).

I think once all the personal stuff is done, his testimony will turn out okay for the WH. Again, my opinion. We can see after the hearings. I think he will have to testify.
