Piece of plane discovered at 9/11 site

Is anyone else surprised by this? 9/11 happened 12 years ago, and I would have thought that in the investigation afterwards, the site would have been combed very thoroughly, and by the very best people in the business.

I know it was a huge undertaking and parts could still turn up here and there, but did you see the picture? It's a pretty big piece.

No one has discussed it here yet. The search for human remains just concluded. It's really not "old news."

I get that you're not interested, though. I'm looking for a conversation with someone who *is* interested, so I suppose we both suffer a disappointment here.

I am interested in this story. While the headlines report that this is part of one of the 9/11 planes, the articles themselves continue to say "believed to be a part."

They have mentioned serial numbers on the plane part, but I have read no followup as to what these numbers signify in terms of identification.

I read an NPR article that said Boeing identified the part as coming from a 767 airliner, but they said it was not possible to identify which one.

The two planes that hit the buildings were 767's, so it seems apparent to me that this is a part of one of those planes. I'm not sure it matters which one at this point.

The piece weighed over 250 pounds--how on Earth are they just finding it now? That's the part that really baffles me. I suppose though that having not ever seen the site in person, it's hard to grasp just how massive it is.
