Oop! Kerry wasn't at the State Dept. during the coup

even though the State Dept. said he was. They lied.

by providing the details about how he spent his day, boating with his grandson for the 4th and making a couple of dozen phone calls, including the NSA briefing? The only apparent scamming going on here is the pretense that this issue is of consequence to any Americans except those firmly ensconced in right-wing anti-administration rancor.

Why did they lie about it? With this administration, it's like "lie first, then figure it out later." Sorry, but being in "communication" isn't quite the same thing, but they want us to think it is. What they said is he was "working" all day. Some of us aren't that stupid. See link.

This was answered below. - sm

SOS Kerry took his grandson kayaking for a couple of hours to celebrate the holiday. Everything they said he did in the way of work was by phone, from his briefing with the president and the National Security Council to his contacts with leaders and diplomats in Egypt, Israel, Norway, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. Sounds like work to me and reminds me of how some of my family members did not take my MT job seriously as "real work" since it was done at home.

More impressive numbers. 94-3, the overwheliming Senate vote confirming - Kerry's SOS nomination.

Maybe the pubs having issues with this should take it up with their senators.

the terminally dysfunctional Congress gets 216 with theirs. Naturally, they are working feverishly to gavel in and gavel out pro forma to prevent any recess appointments, especially Elizabeth Warren's to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Kerry took his oath February 1, and I doubt he's even had a day off since then. I also doubt any level-headed voter would give any of this a second thought.

Thanks for your thoughts on this matter. :)) - LL

[ In Reply To ..]
DON'T LIE ABOUT IT! I would have more respect for him if he said, it's the holiday weekend for pete's sake, I want to spend time with my family. No, instead he had to lie.

Lying must be a prerequisite for being in politics now a days. Do any of them know how to tell the truth? Never mind, I know the answer.

going on. They "got it straight" when someone saw him and took a picture. They only get it straight when they're caught, and even then, sometimes they still try to lie their way out. It really gets tiresome. The American people deserve better than what we are getting.
Sometimes we see only what we want to see. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
People make mistakes. When they realize they did, either they correct them or not. In this case, they corrected the error. You have no way of knowing what went on behind the scene but sure seem to think you do and sure are bent on finding as much negative spin as you possibly can. Nothing more that pure speculation, as usual. That also really gets tiresome, too.

What difference are you suggesting it would make if Kerry had dropped his grandson like a hot potato and come rushing back to DC or flown to Cairo? None. Zero. Zilch.
oh yes just an innocent mistake that's all - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
only republicans lie. Democrats is always a "mistake" or "signals crossed". LOL.

It was a lie. What the big deal is (to me) is that nobody learns their lessons. They outright lie and nothing ever happens to them. So they just keep lying. This was no mistake. They knew where he was. Again, no big deal. It's the holiday, he should be able to take time to be with his family doing whatever he wants. What matters is they lied about it stating he was not on his yacht. Then they went and lied and said well he was only there a short period of time, when he was there the day.

Again, no big deal he was taking some time off for the holiday. Is a big deal they feel the need to lie to us, then another lie when they are caught. It's the lies in the first place as to why most Americans don't trust them. This only goes to show why they should not be trusted.
They didn't lie when they said he was working - and
[ In Reply To ..]
you don't know what they did and did not know when the initial statement was issued. Unfounded wild speculation is not exactly truthful either, is it?
I didn't say anything about him working - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Please do not put words down that I did not say. I'm sure he was working. I even said I don't really care that he was on his yacht.

What I do care about is that they felt they needed to lie to us and tell us he was not on his yacht, then well yeah he was on his yacht but only for a "brief period of time", then we find out he was there all day.

For pete's sake man (not you - the people lying to us). TELL us he was on his yacht working through the day. Tell us he was out water skiing. I don't care, but for God's sake stop lying to us as though you think we are stupid. Just say he was on his yacht.

I'm not wildly speculating. If he has a yacht its the holidays there is no reason he shouldn't be enjoying time on his toy. I don't care, just for crying out loud stop lying to us saying he was not on it, er just a brief period, er all day.

I'm not arguing with you that he doesn't deserve to be on his yacht. I am arguing with you that you won't admit that they are lying to us. Nothing personal against you, I just strongly disagree with you because they DID lie and it's coming out that they lied.

Why can't they tell us the bleeping truth.
Repeating this stuff doesn't make it any more factual despite - the additional embellishments.
[ In Reply To ..]
You think they lied. Fine. That's your opinion, but your stretching the couple of hours to "all day" makes your take less credible, not more. Again, you have no way of knowing what his staff did and did not know about what SOS Kerry was doing on his July 4th break, so please stop pretending you do.

PS. Over-react much? I was not putting words in your mouth, so there is no need to get so defensive. I was merely trying to comment on some of the specifics of the story, like his contact with numerous diplomats: Egyptian Constitution Party President Mohamed ElBaradei, Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr, 5 calls total to U.S. Ambassador to Egypt Anne Patterson, Norwegian Foreign Minister Eade, Qatari Foreign Minister al-Attiyah, Turkish Foreign Minister Davutoglu, with follow-up calls to other leaders such as Emirati Foreign Minister bin Zayed, Prime Minister Netanyahu and Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr.

I seriously doubt he made those calls within earshot of his grandson, making it highly unlikely he spent "all day" on the boat.
I already said I wasn't disagreeing with you that he - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
deserved to be on his yacht. The all day is what has been reported in the news (different websites, not Fox), so I'm not stretching anything.

Don't know why you feel the need to argue with me when I agree with you. I don't over react, just when someone tells me they didn't lie when they said he was working I was just saying I never said anything about him working. That I took for you to be putting words in my mouth. I never mentioned him working. I have no doubts he was working, I have no doubts he didn't deserve to be playing with his toys on his day off.

I'm not commenting about all the people you mentioned. I have no issues with him or his work or anything. All I was saying is one issue and one issues alone. Don't lie to the American people when you know perfectly well he was on his boat. Whether it's for 5 minutes, 5 hours, or 24 hours. Just stop lying to us (not you, them). That's all, just stop with the lies. I don't know how long he was actually there and I don't care, but the reports coming out said he wasn't there for just a "brief period of time" he was there through the day. Again, I don't care. He could have been on his yacht for 4 days in a row, holding orgies and having naked women walk around or anything (LOL)....I...don't....care. Just don't lie to us.

That's all. I'll agree with you on the rest of your post. I just don't like being lied to and it puts less trust in them when they are caught in lies.
OMG. - sm

whose safety the president was actually responsible for, not Egyptians in the middle of a "popular impeachment" revolt. Wonder how Kerry was supposed to "negotiate" with upwards of 17 million of them? Maybe some disgruntled cons mistakenly believe the US SOS is supposed to have control over everything that happens in the Middle East, but my guess is that whatever he had to say at the time was the last thing the citizens of that sovereign nation needed to hear, since they were preoccupied with writing the next chapter of their own history by ousting the Muslim Brotherhood.

The GOP must still be pretty upset about how much of a flop their Benghazi pseudoscandal was in terms of political gains (other than satisfying an endless need to rally their fractured base). WhatEVer.

Since background communications was the order of the day according to his job description, there is no place else Kerry should have been except on the phone, which in this day and age can be done from anywhere. Once they realize this particular slow-news-day dust-up is going nowhere, I expect we'll find the right wingers beating the ground and sniffing around trying to find fault with something...ANYthing else he or the president did or didn't do for which they can blame them.
Well, it reminds ME of Benghazi. People dying there (sm) - Not nola

Are we REALLY expected to believe all this brouhaha coming out or the winger camp is all about protester fatalities and not just your run-of-the-mill smear campaign against the Obama administration? Puh-leeze.

Now, what I'd like to know is where most Americans would expect their President, SOS and other elected leaders, representatives and senators to be on a long 4th of July weekend? After all, it is a distinctly American national holiday celebration that typically is spent with ones family members. I'd also like to know precisely what it is the swiftboat crew thinks they could have done differently that would have changed ANYTHING about what happened in Egypt.
Protestor fatalities? What on earth are you spouting about? - nm

Did you forget? The gov of LA and mayor of NOLA didn't wish for FEMA to be there - saying they'll handle it and was respected by
[ In Reply To ..]
Katrina was an all around blunder from the local to the federal government agencies. Many of the problems developed from the local governments having inadequate planning and back-up communications systems. NOLA tried to manage the disaster from a hotel ballroom but didn't have an EOC.

Then, Nagin didn't bother with evacuation plans until it was too late for a lot of people to get out of town before Katrina hit. Don't forget how a parking lot was full of school buses and Nagin refused to allow them to be used in evacuating the city.

The Gov. failed to declare a state of emergency even after Katrina hit and also turned down a request by the White House to take over command of law enforcement after Katrina, but she thought it meant martial law...but then requested more National Guard troops 2 days after Katrina hit, which didn't happen immediately because of the poor emergency management and she didn't understand the way things worked with requesting the Guard.

Do you remember how Walmart, the Red Cross and other agencies tried to get into the city but were refused entry by FEMA?
FEMA was a disaster for NOLA. Chertoff was the only one with the authority to authorize anything until he saw the screw-ups he was causing, so gave Michael Brown some authority to make some decisions, then threw Brown under the bus when the criticism started.

Bush signed a $10.5 billion relief package within four days of the hurricane, and ordered 7,200 active-duty troops to assist with relief efforts.

So, there were goofs all around from local emergency planning sources, the mayor of NOLA, the Governor or LA, FEMA and Chertoff in particular, and others.

BTW, Nagin WAS indicted on 21 counts of fraud, bribery and kickbacks, money laundering, wire fraud, and filing false tax returns. The charges go back to 2004 pre-Katrina.
What I remember is how the levees breached - throughout Mon Aug 29
[ In Reply To ..]
along with the pump station failures, starting around 9 a.m. when about 75% of the city was underwater. Another major breach at 10 p.m. that same night added another 10 feet of water. Judging from the bodies and debris floating around in the filthy flood waters, it's safe to assume that many of the 1,833 fatalities had already occurred, and that the 108 billion in damage was already more than apparent. W initially claimed that "no one" anticipated the breach of the levees, despite video evidence of top-level briefings that directly contradicted this claim.

Nonetheless, the very next day the prez felt it was appropriate to attend a Victory over Japan commemoration in California. He did not return from Crawford to DC until the afternoon of Wed Aug 31. Meanwhile, on the evening of August 30 and again the next morning, Cheney called Southern Pines Electric Power Association management to order diversion of power crews to Collins, Mississippi substations that serviced Colonial Pipeline operations, so the flow of gas and diesel fuel from Texas to the Northeast could continue unimpeded by such inconveniences as a deadly national disaster being played out all along the Gulf Coast.

All I am trying to say here is that, all things considered, Kerry's crime of spending a couple of hours with his grandson during a working vacation kinda sorta pales by comparison when it comes to outrageously inadequate responses by our top leaders to an ongoing tragedy involving millions of AMERICANS.
