Obamacare going to surprise some folks - (sm)
Posted: Sep 22, 2014
in store for a big surprise. I'm sure some know about it already, but a lot of the low information people probably don't. I'd love to be a fly on the wall.
I honestly don't know. All I know is that the ACA - site got back to me and said my - sm

income was too low to qualify for any of the insurance offered on the ACA website, and they sent me to another page to apply for Medicaid. I didn't hear back for 6 months, assumed I was denied that as well. But then Medicaid sent me one more form to complete, and after that, a card and a list of clinics, hospitals and doctors near me that take Medicaid. I signed up with one of the doctors, but I don't know what the next step after that will be.
Well, I'm glad you got something. Maybe call the (sm) - trying to help

doctor that you chose and VERIFY that he takes Medicaid, and ask what the next step would be, IOW, if you get sick are you registered with him, things like that. I'm not sure at all, I honestly don't know, but as long as he takes Medicaid, it shouldn't be any different than any other insurance plan. Try to find out whatever you can before you need it. Good luck.
It means that you are on Medicaid. sm - buzz

You are in a state that expanded Medicaid as a result of the ACA if you received a card.
What happens after that is that you go to a PCP, clinic, hospital of your choice and get the medical care that you need. It's that simple, and the best of wishes to you. You are covered!

You are now on welfare.....so I am paying for your health insurance and mine because mine is taken out of my husband's paycheck. And this is a good system? Why can't everyone's healthcare costs be taken out of their paycheck? A certain percentage - then everyone at least invests a little into their coverage.
I visited recently with a hospital administrator and he said that emergency room visits at their hospital have nearly doubled since Obamacare and most of those will be uncollectable because the people are "hospital jumping" - going from one emergency room to another when they need care so that they don't have to pay for healthcare.....solved the problem, now didn't we......
Well, good! I'm glad all the right-wing, protect- - the-1% are paying for my healthcare! ;p

Also, there's a good reason why not everyone's healthcare can be taken out of their paycheck, because not everyone has a paycheck. I don't.
Gee, Ruby Red-State, what a kind reply! (NOT) - :(

and her husband will not have to pay for the above posters uncompensated care any longer which is a whole h-ll of a lot more expensive than Medicaid.
I'm sure we have all heard of the 7,000+ ER bill for a couple of sutures. Medicaid will now pay a rate for those 7,000 sutures at a fraction of that charge, and Ruby won't have to cover that 7,000 bill. I don't care how many times a Medicaid patient ER "hops;" they have a Medicaid card now, they present it to the provider, the provider gets paid a fraction of that 7,000 and Ruby and her husband either see a reduced insurance premium or less of an increase than they would have if that person did not have Medicaid.
It's a win-win, for both the above poster and for Ruby and her husband.
Interesting question. - sm

Ruby informs us that she is paying for another poster's health insurance and her own because it is taken out of her husband's paycheck. Then Ruby asks the interesting question: "Why can't everyone's healthcare costs be taken out of their paycheck?"
Which leads me to answer Ruby's question with the obvious statement that sometimes people's health insurance is paid for out of their husband's paycheck because they either don't work themselves or don't need the duplicate coverage from their own employer that their husband's employer already provides.
My never employed right wing cousin who had been a stay-at-home mom since she was 19 years old felt much the same way as Ruby that she was paying for others' health coverage. She unfortunately recently lost her husband of 2+ decades suddenly to a car accident and his paycheck and benefits along with him. Finding herself suddenly a 40-something single mother of 6 children with no husband and no demonstrable skills other than parenting, she showed up at my door one night in tears and asking for a hand out. I gave her a hand up, and we got busy from that day forward getting her the help she desperately needed until she could get her life put back together and somehow find a way to create a new life for herself and her 6 children.
She swallowed her pride and her prejudice, and she now considers herself less judgmental and learning the hard way. She often apologizes to me for her predicament and thanks me for my help, and if I have told her once, I have told her a hundred times that she can thank the bleeding heart liberals starting with FDR and including Obama.
What's the problem? sm - buzz

People who overestimate their income in order to get a larger tax credit for insurance don't even have to pay the full credit amount back on the amount that they over-estimated because there are caps in place on that.
So in other words you can over-inflate your income in order to get a larger credit and when its found out that you over-estimated there is a cap in place on how much that has to be paid back.
I'd like to be a fly on the wall too, watching people intentionally over-inflating their income, fully realizing that they are not going to have to pay the full amount of that tax credit back on their over-estimation.
What's the problem?

tax credit, then outperformed and got paid "too much," so they then owe the part of the tax credit back because they didn't qualify? I could see people being disappointed, but it was not money they were entitled to.

The OP is going on about this ObamaCare tax "shock."
In actuality it allows for people to "game" the system a bit, and the OP is inferring that these poor, unsuspecting folks are in for some ObamaCare type of tax shock when they are informed that they are going to have to pay back a portion (but not the full amount due to caps in place) of their tax credit back on their intentionally under-estimated income.
We are supposed to be upset about the plight of people that do that, and feel sorry for them when they have to pay some of their tax credit back, or what? That is what the OP is implying in her/his post, that these poor individuals were somehow misled by ObamaCare, when in reality they are shrewd people who know how to game the system to their advantage.
Get real, OP
How about this for getting real...not the OP - Trigger Happy

You seem to be happy about a healthcare system that allows people to lie in order to receive a bigger tax credit than they should and then NOT have to pay that back. Gee...isn't that kinda like theft? Who is paying for these extra tax credits these liars are getting and aren't paying back?
The same people who paid for people that used the ER and didn't pay. - sm
It's the Republican blueprint for federal healthcare. Listen to Mitt Romney explain it so much better than I could (see link).
Oh, now we're blaming the faults of Obamascare on Romney? - sm

The Dems are truly becoming the party of whiny babies who blame others for their failures. This is really pathetic and embarrassing for a party I used to believe in. Is this what you're learning on MSLSD these days?
Try reading it again. You have it exactly backwards. - sm

I give credit where credit is due by explaining that it is based on the Republican blueprint, which it actually is, and I used Mitt Romney to explain the answer to the poster's question. In no way whatsoever do I blame anyone. Read it again and watch the video. Sure, we liberals would prefer single payer, but most liberals agree that Romneycare and Obamacare are better than what was in place. Why would we blame anybody for something we liked?
If YOU personally don't like it, perhaps YOU are projecting YOUR OWN blame onto us? There's no blame on our end, seriously; Mitt Romney is just really good at explaining the way it works.
