Obamacare Could Face Large Numbers of Dropouts

More than half the people who enrolled in Obamacare last year don’t plan to sign up again—and that’s bad news for the president’s healthcare law.

A new Bankrate survey reveals that 53 percent of current Obamacare enrollees who signed up through the exchanges said they would not be enrolling for 2015. Their reason--“much higher prices for health plans.”

Uh, oh. Did I hear that Obamacare was supposed to lower health insurance premiums?

Of course the prices are higher for a lot of people - they went from having no insurance (and thus, a zero price) to having to pay for insurance. Anything is a higher price than zero!
Under their old "plan", the rest of us paid for their health care.

You'd think that Republicans - the party of 'personal responsibility' - would prefer to have people paying their own way, but instead they stand up and cheer when people revert to being freeloaders, because they mistakenly believe this reflects negatively on the president.

It is a lot better than it used to be. I used to worry about having to change jobs and losing my insurance. Now it is not a worry. From what I understand millions of people now have insurance who did not used to. The Tpubs say they are going to repeal Obamacare? and take away the insurance away from all of these families? I guess that is how they show they care about you.

I found myself unexpectedly unemployed for a brief period earlier this year. I looked at the pricing on COBRA insurance, then at a similar plan under the ACA. The Obamacare plan was much, much more affordable!

The ACA website was pretty straightforward to use, too. The only trouble I ran into was with the BlueCross/BlueShield service, which was just dismal. But that was entirely the fault of BCBS, not the ACA.

Between high deductibles and inability to find providers - many will never be able to use Obamacare.

Insurers agreed to keep their premiums "low" (cough!) but turned right around and raised the deductible. They also limited the networks of providers.

For many, the deductibles are running $5000 or more. What that means is, you're paying those premiums every month AND, if you need health care, you get to pay that out of pocket too until you hit the deductible.

The biggest lie about Obamacare isn't even "You can keep your plan, you can keep your doctors" - it's right in the title: "The AFFORDABLE Healthcare Act". Affordable only as long as you don't need any healthcare, depending on how generously you define "affordable".

If, of course, you can find a network that will take you. I had to call EIGHT before I found one, and the closest clinic is almost 30 minutes away from me (my former clinic had been a five-minute drive).

This is a royal mess, and nothing less than a mess, for most people. I know my own healthcare is now totally screwed up.

ObamaCare is a sham. Plain and simple. - It only helps a chosen few.

A chosen few, you say? By 'few', I guess you must mean the between 8 and 11 million American citizens who were uninsured last year, but who now have coverage.

And by 'chosen', are you perhaps referring to all the people who were denied coverage before because of pre-existing conditions, who now can get insurance? Or people who were not able to afford coverage before and now can? I should point out that likely includes MTs, who have seen their incomes cut time after time.

The ACA isn't perfect (it was, after all, based on a model designed by Romney), but it's certainly not a sham, nor is it a failure. To those millions of people with insurance for the first time, it's a tremendous success.

It's also a success in that it extended the solvency of Medicare for two more years. For the many US citizens dependent upon Medicare, this is a tremendous help.

Had the ACA been enacted under GWB, you people would love it. You should try to set aside your unreasoning hatred of Obama long enough to examine some actual facts. You might be surprised.

...the first time. I'm talking people like self-employed carpenters or home health aides. And these people vote and they vote Republican. But I think the 2016 Republican candidate is going to have a hard time getting their vote if a big part of their platform is taking away their new found health insurance, AKA repealing Obamacare.
