I have to start by admitting that I'm a etiquette-stodgy, type A, Miss Manners advocating, play by the social graces handbook kind of gal,who has felt personally embarrassed by what I perceive as Obama's long list of social/etiquette gaffes while in office (i.e., the Churchill bust debacle, schlepping the Dalai Lama out the service door, mixing up medal of honor recipients' names, etc.).

That said, I realize that what's important to my uptight person may not be important to others, and if it is, there will be an outcry by the American public. People come from different backgrounds and have different teachings as far as etiquette and courtesy and I think America in general has become more lax in the "niceties." Maybe it's just a sign of the times.

when you become POTUS, there are people who can fill you in on the "niceties" and what might be considered rudeness. Of course, I suppose if one is to arrogant to be taught anything, that would create a whole different set of issues. O giving the Queen of E an Ipod with his speeches on it was pretty bad. The thing I can't get over though is the Dalai Lama leaving the WH past all the garbage. I don't care where you are from, this is common sense. A more trustworthy source for your news. It's scary how many things get taken out of context and twisted around, then reported as hard news. The web site you provided the link for looks like right wing tabloid press to me. Are you saying that a rapper's family does not deserve condolences? It's probably easier to send one letter personally than multiple letters, at least he sent them. I'm no fan of Obama but it irritates me the way trivial things that have nothing to do with the real issues get blown out of proportion.
