I am sure there are those who prefer to believe in the invisible prayer rugs, the Quran Rev Leon has concealed behind the pulpit and the decree declaring Sharia Law as the law of the land he is holding rolled up in his left hand. when sitting in a pew, there is a railed compartment in front of you that is part of the back of the front adjacent pew. In that rail, one can find two things: A hymnal and a Bible. A hinged knee rest is attached to the base of the adjacent pew that swings down into position during the services on which parishioners kneel to pray at the appropriate times.

Today it's episcopalian, tomorrow catholic, the next day baptist, next day mormom. Whatever gives him the best photo op is the best way to go.

He used to be a baptist and a muslim. Never know anymore which way he's going to go. I'd personally not want to see him go to any church/moslem. That's his private life.

But gotta get those photo ops in though to fool the people.

One thing for sure is his PR department knows the right moves to make.

Different POTUS, evidently out denomination hopping and photo opping, since he left the Episcopal Church to join the Methodist Church when he married Laura, was lost to followup during the drinking and drugging years, then was found again during that magical walk on the beach with Billy Graham that fateful summer weekend in Walker's Point, Maine.

Are you suggesting they have also misidentified Reverend Luis Leon? See first link below. He is the rector of St John's EPISCOPAL church. Also in support of an accurate mainstram media report would be the pictures showing that the Obamas WALKED to church and walked back to the White House, which would imply that the church they attended was near the White House. St John's is adjacent to Lafayette Park, which is across the street from the White House. See second link for map.

When disputing the veracity of mainstram media, your claim may be more convincing if you at least post your source. Maybe next time.

I trust we have put this issue to bed once and for all. President Obama and his family walked across Lafayette to St John's EPISCOPAL Church to attend services and heard Reverand Luis Leon's sermon. We can clearly see this in the pictures provided in the other post. What part of this are you guys not getting?

Whether or not Obama is a Christian is between him and God first of all. Secondly, I'd like to point out that even non-believers attend church on Sunday. My atheist husband goes with me on occasion. That doesn't make him a Christian just by attending.

To me this photo proves nothing. I'm glad he attended church even if it was for a photo op because people who go to church for the wrong reason sometimes find the right answer inside whether they intended to or not.

I am not implying that he merely went for a photo op. I pointed out that even if he did...I'm glad he was there. I did not say he did nor did I say his presence there means he is or isn't a Christian. That is between him and God. My point, which you have obviously missed, is that him attending church doesn't prove matters one way or the other. It doesn't prove him a Christian nor does it prove he went merely for photo ops and he isn't a Christian.

The reason people are questioning his religious beliefs is because some of his actions have given people doubt. As the leader of our country it does matter to the believers in this country whether our president believes as well. It gives some of them comfort knowing that even though there is a separation of church and state....our leader believes in God. It is more reassuring comfort than anything else.

As for why this should even be an issue....when you are in the public eye like that you better be able to handle criticism and scrutiny. If you can't, don't run for office.

Ambiguity is often misleading, so forgive me if I misunderstood the implications of your first post. I agree with everything else in your first paragraph. However, I do have some issues with the next one.

The reason many, many people question his religious beliefs is because their prejudice, negativity and doubts have assigned dubious, misconstrued, disingenuous, fallacious, salacious, and at times perverse meaning to his behaviors. They are determined NOT to believe anything he says and absolutely refuse to take his actions (and explanations, when he provides them) on face value. They do not seek the comfort and reassurance of knowing he believes in God (which EVEN MUSLIMS DO, by the way). Instead, they seek to vilify him at every turn and portray him as "not like us," then extrapolate that "otherness" into fear.

The reasons for this reach far beyond the realms of religion and can be more accurately described as that tired, worn-out, overused notion of cultural divide that plagues our nation both politically and socially. As the current underdogs, they seek to perpetuate and promote that division. This is all about who we are as a nation and what President Obama represents to them in terms of that "other half" of Americans, specifically the MAJORITY of voters who elected him to office.

Muslim, proponent in black liberation theology, nonbeliever, not a real Christian, atheist, elitist, liberal, progressive, socialist, commie, pinko, too black, too white, Kenyan anti-colonial philosopher, non-citizen, foreigner, unpatriotic, whatever, whatever, whatever...take your pick. Personally, I think he has taken this all in stride with a great deal of grace and style.

IMO, any and all of those who perpetuate this ignorant, destructive and self-defeating sore losership who are bent on literally bringing the government to a virtual standstill for the sake of resurrecting their failed political agendas are an embarrassment and a disgrace to themselves and to our nation.
