Figures don't lie and liers don't figure - sm
[ In Reply To ..]First of all, how old are these figures? Secondly, some of these figures can not even be blamed on the president! And third, some of them are just wrong at this point, taking into account that they are changing constantly. For instance, according to the Department of Labor, the unemployment rate just dropped 2 notches since December. There were 243,000 new jobs in January alone.
The unemployment rate as of the last couple of days fell to 8.3 percent, the lowest in three years!! The job growth was actually the fastest since last March and April. The unemployment rate has fallen five months in a row, the first time that has happened since 1994 - through 2 economic booms and 2 recessions. Unemployment was 6.8% when Obama was elected, 7.8% when he was sworn in, and 10% nine months later, again, now at 8.3%.
On Wall Street, investments have driven stocks to their best start in 15 years because of optimism about the economy. As someone else mentioned, the Dow average climbed 156 points. The closing last week at 12,862 is the highest close since May 2008.
For every figure you quote with various statistical bureaus, administrations, etc. there is another set somewhere by someone that will state differently. Failed banks? You state that as an Obama accomplishment? You think he had something to do with that? Really? I'm sorry, there goes your credibility right out the window!
The catastrophic economic situation that Mr. Obama inherited when he took office absolutely can not be fixed in 4 years BY ANYONE, and probably not in the next 4 years either, but I believe he has taken a more realistic approach than any administration has in years and not just for today, but for many years after he is gone. As for the "job creators," I wonder if anyone has calculated the lost revenue in terms of federal and state taxes, Medicare, Social Security, unemployment, and welfare due to our jobs leaving the U.S. This is what has lined their pockets, made them richer, and cost middle-class Americans dearly, and if that is not bad enough, they don't want to have to pay more than 15% taxes while doing it!
And BTW, winning GOP debates is not the same thing as winning votes!

[ In Reply To ..]In the last 23 months consecutively, the private sector has seen job growth of 3.7 million jobs. The manufacturing sector added 396,000 jobs since December 2009 - with annual growth in the last 2 years for the first time since 1997.
Again, one does not have to look far to find that there has been steady and consistent job growth; maybe not as good as we would like to see, but it is a start and the growth is currently steady.
I'm not against Rep or Dem here, but I do question - all the TV news stories of late - sm

1- WHOSE economy is recovering? Mine isn't. And I think most MTs would say the same.
2 - There are fewer people applying for Unemployment benefits. In large part, that could be because just about everyone who needs to, has done it. And then there are even more whose UE has run out, and they are no longer on the books, so who knows what has happened to them? Many have just given up looking.
3 - I can't speak for all employment sectors in the U.S., but we all know who the MTSOs are hiring lately. And those people aren't in the United States.

[ In Reply To ..]We are still a weak economy, but the trend is changing. You need to think outside the box of the MT world. Just Google what information you would like to know about the economy, specifically employment information.
I do believe that in the future the offshoring laws will remain intact, as this is a free country; however, perhaps they will be amended, making it not so profitable to do so. I think the MTSOs believe that as well, and VR is their answer to this reduction in their revenue. We are but a small part of the big picture.
