Obama's recess appointments

Posted: Jan 9, 2012

I wanted to see what opinions were out there regarding the recess appointments Obama made last week of Cordray and for the NLRB.  Was he right to do this or does it fly in the face of the Constitution?

The Dodd-Frank bill CLEARLY states that the Director MUST be confirmed by the Senate.

That is why the courts will shoot down this administration.

The bill clearly states - CourtWillShootItDown

I hope you are right and that they shoot down Dodd/Frank, as well. Another 2200-page mess. Just to give you a small glimpse into that mess...Dodd(D)/Frank(D) allows the govt to look into ANY expenditure you have, yes even your trips to Walmart, any financial records, any stock records, retirement records and you do not have to be notified. Incidentally, another portion of this removes the ability to make payments you may want to work out between your doctor/dentist etc., between that facility and you directly. If payments exceed a certain number, the govt now steps in to decide whether or not to allow this between your doc and you. That has nothing to do with consumer protection. Why should someone in D.C. have a right to know what you and your MD/dentist or any other individual you make payments to, what you arranged? P.S. This bill also allows them to "review" any credit card/debit card purchases you make at any time without your knowledge. Funny too, that both Dodd (D) and Frank (D) were largely responsible for a lot of the collapse, and absolutely nothing happened to either of them.

Obama's recess appointments - Zville MT - Glad to see you on

Glad to see a lawsuit against Obama for this (filed by ACLJ within days of Obama pulling this). There is nothing in the Constitution to support what Obama did. I am sure you will have his cheering crowd on here boohooing on Obama's behalf. However, if you look at alot of what Obama did, it flies in the face of the Constitution. In 2008, while Obama did his stump speeches, he stated many times he saw no reason why the Constitution had to be followed; that it was outdated. Tells you alot about Obama. If a Repub did what Obama did, the outrage here would be uncontrollably....but, those that think Obama walks on water, will never say a word. Anyone wanting to see the basis of the lawsuit can contact ACLJ directly and it will be provided to you in its entirety.

I am sure the Obama haters will show up - The question

is why cannot the Pubs even approve a Director for the agency that has been charged with the job of protecting consumers? Guess they just want to continue with the extortion of the people. My prediction: Someone will now call me a flamer.

I am sure the Obama haters - Not to be confused with the Obama lovers

[ In Reply To ..]
If you BOTHERED to even read what this agency does, it is with good reason Cordray should not be approved. You can "flick your Bic" all you want, but this so called consumer agency is nothing more than a way to track every move you make. Obviously, you did not read it. There were already a multitude of agencies to regulate the banks, SEC, protect consumers...this is just another govt agency that will waste billions of dollars. Instead of being so quick to try and insult others, perhaps reading would be a better choice...Just saying.

There are 2 of you on here (maybe one with multiple IDs) that say you want to discuss something, yet you only have the conservative talking points and then acuse anyone who sees anything positive as being close minded, not smart or well read, etc. You are the hypocrite, and I am sick of it. Good bye and good riddance.

Some of us have been posting on this board long enough to be able to tell when there is 1 poster using multiple monikers (I've seen 2 lately) alternating with nm/sm in order to "pad" their opinion. We can tell by their posting style, writing style, the content of their posts... and... ummm.... THE TIME STAMP on each posting. I'm sick of it too.

Why so defensive? Your tone is uncalled for - read this
[ In Reply To ..]
First of all... this is supposed to be a forum for professionals (aka grown-ups). The Politics Board on this site is supposed to be where grown-ups come to discuss political issues. Seeing differing opinions and debates break out is expected and welcomed, but "padded" opinions (that's where 1 poster makes multiple posts to make it look like more people share their POV) and pointless multiple drive-by snipes (trolling for an argument) is counterproductive, immature, and pointless.

Second, you do realize that spamming (multiple posts with the same content) is a viable reason to report a post, right? You can click "options" followed by "report this message" and look through the selections yourself. Since it's a reason to report a post, I guess that it's frowned upon here and puts it at "BD" status.

Third, the time stamp is not hard to find. Actually it's pretty much right in your face and can be found just to the right of the poster's moniker (or the black type area designated for the moniker). It's next to the views and the date.

From now on, I do plan to just report the multiple redundant posts with people basically talking to themselves as spam messages. I know folks who have been banned from posting here for doing much, much less than that.

Toodles.
Why so defensive - Conservative
[ In Reply To ..]
I really cannot wait to report the spam for several posters. You cannot make one comment, no matter how innocent or well supported by facts, that there is not someone lying in wait to set your hair on fire. Personally, I put no stock in the time stamps. Someone can be getting off and on repeatedly or staying on for hours. Either way, I don't care how they spend their time...just sick of the constant insults always begun by a select few.

fascinating microcosm of the liberal and conservative thought process. First point. Conservative: mental illness is a funny way to insult someone. Second point. Liberal: Relax, this is casual setting. dont get unduly upset over minor details. Conservative: There are definite ways things "should" be done. (but only their way). Conservative: Always fearful that their "freedom" is being taken away. But dare challenge their way of doing things and they immediately threaten to go to an authority figure so opponent's freedom can be quashed.

Find it interesting that those complaining the most have ALL used different names or none at all or just use "nm" or "sm". Not to mention even the titles they post...."Obama haters", aren't your tired of it, "your tone is uncalled for", "why so defensive", if they were at least better at it" are all pretty judgmental and I am sure they chose those because they felt it would get someone's attention or cause a problem. Sure does not appear if they are willing to stand by their comments, yet accuse others of same. It all look like SPAM to me.

(the multiple thing) it might be entertaining. I once witnessed an unfortunate schizophrenic having a conversation with herself (for real). At least she spoke in two distinct and different voices. What really cracks me up, though, is when the person tries to "set bait" and then argues with herself. Makes me wonder how the payment schedule is set up.

Peronsally, I don't care if it is 1 person or 300. The most hateful, nasty comments came from those bashing anything that could be viewed as conservative in any way. Don't care if you all leave the board. If truth be told, Inspector Clouseau could also ASSUME that all of the hateful, nasty comments regarding conservatives came from 1 hateful liberal. Speaking of hypocrites. There are so few of these haters that ever list any facts. When a fact is stated, it is immediately assumed they are an Obama hater or a lib hater, and the libs come out in full force to flame and name call, as if that is fair. If you want to name call, insult posters, why would you expect any better treatment? There are several here that made it clear that no matter what a conservative says, they are going after the jugular. Seems only fair you get the same in return. If you actually bother to read the whole thread, almost every single snotty comment began with a lib/Obama lover ATTACKING a conservative viewpoint, and then the conservative responded. As for using several different names....who cares?? Is your life so shallow that everything revolves around these posts...pretty sad commentary if it is.

that the discussion was supposed to be about Obamas recess appointments and the longest part of the thread is an argument. Seems that either most really don't know what's in the Dodd/Frank bill or what these recess appointments really mean OR that they're just looking for another excuse to argue about whatever, even those who say they want to discuss the issues - that attack post comes along and the gloves are off!

I really thought there would be some constitutional discussion at least. Oh well. I just heard that Hostess is going bankrupt and Twinkies may be a thing of the past - now, there's a REAL disappointment.

Hate police, spelling police, speech police, poster police.....starting to sound like Big Brother to me. They are ALL guilty of the person(s) they are complaining about. I saw the Hostess thing, too....OMG. Now I have to learn how to make Twinkies and Hostess Cupcakes! The pressure of that and this board is toooooo much....Oh No.

I never replied to your message about the recess appointments because I have no knowledge about that and I don't know what the Dodd/Frank bill is. Never even heard of it, but I do know if it has Dodd or Franks name on it it can't be good. But I have been sitting back enjoying the show (bashing conservatives that is). I have to say you and Conservatives Twinkie posts have been the best laugh I have had in a long time from this board.

The ones who come on and call others "Obama haters" lose all respect and credibility (IMHO) and therefore I find nothing they have to say worthy of reading. When they cannot hold a discussion and defend their position on anything but just start off with "Obama hater", blah, blah, blah it makes me wonder why they even post. Just to spread hate? I still don't know where this absolute hate for anyone conservative comes from. It can't be good for the health to hate so much. And the funny thing is they have no real reason to hate. They don't know how to reason or think for themselves.

Although I have to say my absolute favorite hostess product is their Snoballs...or Suzi Qs, wait maybe ho hos or their fruit pies or...oh man they are all so good (Snoballs the best) - okay now I'm hungry and all I've got is Pop Tarts. :-)

Boy are they loaded with it, too (hate I mean). One poster actually quoted a doctor that attributed people using this "Obama hater" position because someone disagrees with Obama's policies as a mental disorder...I think he was on to something! If you follow all these threads (sleep aid), you can easily see when the tables were turned on them, using the EXACT words they used towards, their outrage was palpable. Why is it okay to insult anyone so hatefully because of a difference of opinion, and then expect you're gonna get sunshine blown up your skirt? Then, they all say how much they hate the bashing, but if you again follow the threads...they threw the first stone (and usually it was completely void of any sense to original poster's comments). A case of "do as I say, not as I do". I fully understand your commments about Dodd/Frank. If you do get the chance to read it, please do so. It is having a huge impact on people's lives and unfortunately, many do not realize how extensive that is. You can get a "condensed" version, but as the name implies, many parts are removed. This will eventually severely limit anyone wanting a mortgage (or refinancing) making it extremely difficult to purchase a home on top of all else. Nice to see someone on here with a sense of humor after all the flamers. Read some of ZVille MT, too....she's a good one. Smart, but has a good sense of humor to go with it. Now for the Twinks! Hmmm, the Sno Balls are sounding pretty good :) then so are the HoHos and pies....maybe 1 of each!!!

Gee, I wonder where the liberals got the idea to do THAT, considering the very same thing came from the conservatives first.

I think congress just wanted some more time to go over the agency. - Zville MT

[ In Reply To ..]
With that, I agree - way too many things have been passed with little or no attention to the details.

My two problems with this new agency are that it is funded by the Federal Reserve, which means it can basically take as much money as it wants and doesn't report to anyone regarding what they do with that money. My second problem is that it's supposed to keep another financial disaster from happenig, but it has nothing to do with Wall Street (regulated by the FCC) or mortgages with Fannie and Freddie. Weren't they what started the whole financial meltdown?

I think it needs to be read and re-read several more times and some changes be made. I won't call you a flamer because you asked a very fair question (well, maybe except the part about pubs wanting to continue the extortoin of the people - that might not be really fair - lol!). I would, however, suggest that you do some reading of the Dodd/Frank bill and do some research, pros and cons, about this new agency. Much more debate needs to be had on this.

that the senate, led by Harry Reid, pulled the pro-forma session several times during the Bush administration and the constitutional line was never crossed by Bush (and I am by no means a Bush fan!). NOW, all of a sudden, the dems are crying foul? I guess I'm just confused - they can't have it both ways. If Obama is allowed to let these appointments stand, it sets a precedence for future presidents; yes, even republican ones.

Exactly! Unfortunately, there are very few on this board that even know what fair means, let alone practice it. No president is perfect and Obama is so far off the mark regarding anything Constitutional. It is really hard to understand those on here that follow Obama so blindly to the exclusion of any fact. When fcts are given to them, they get down right viscious in their repsonses; then are suprised when others come after THEM. Pretty sad all the way around.

Now the detectives are checking time stamps and accusing others of not using a name, yet over half of them complaining used "sm" or "nm", and want to report it all as spam (so much for free speech). This thread continued down from an original title with someone commenting about "Obama haters", which had nothing to do with your post at all. When another responded with "Obama lovers", the gloves came off; the rest you can read at your leisure. P.S. I, too, have been researching the insurance more in depth.
