My thoughts on the post about the GOP plan

Posted: Nov 10, 2009

Firstly, I am *not* opposed to a GOP plan - and to be fair I don't have enough details about what it would and would not do (which I plan to remedy).

I read the following post to get more information, but much of it is opinion - or vague -and did not explain how it is better than the current bill(s) under consideration.  Let me be specific:

OP:  This is what I like about the GOP plan:

Instead of govt insurance it reforms the system.

1.  How is the "Pelosi's plan' 'GOVT INSURANCE?'

It will create high-risk insurance pools, allow people to purchase insurance across state lines (Excellent!!!!!!). It will lower the cost of health care and increase access to good quality health care. It includes people with pre-existing conditions. It will lower costs for small businesses. The rates would drop by anywhere from 5 to 10%.

How will it do the above?  This I will also research myself.

Individual will have what they call a “one-stop marketplace” to choose what plan they want. So I can choose the same plan someone in Kansas or Missouri pays which would cut my premium by about $300. And on top of that it would cover doctors visits and preventive visits.

$300 a year?

It would offer coverage to any individual regardless of their health history or age.

Offering coverage is not the same thing as *providing* coverage.  What does the plan do for people who cannot afford the lowest premiums possible?

The GOP is also looking at “The Patients Choice Act of 2009 which ends tax breaks for employers who provide insurance, and instead gives a $5710 tax cut to families and $2290 to individual to help them pay for insurance coverage.

A tax cut is NOT money in your pocket, especially if the premiums are still too high.

The GOP’s plan will lower the cost of health care,

How will it lower the cost?

which means more people will be able to afford it. You won’t be refused health care due to any medical condition and you won’t be dropped from your insurance plan if you have a serious illness.

Lower cost of health care means more people will be able to afford to buy it and people will more likely tend to go to the doctor when they are sick and not wait.

How much lower?  They can't lower cost a fraction and call it a solution.  And what about people who can't afford the lowest premiums available?

So...if everyone who claims to be so interested in getting more people insured this is the plan to go with.

In your opinion.

We do not need to destroy existing health insurance companies, we need to put stricter regulations on them.

Problem with Pelosi-crap-care plan is that it will not insure everyone, and you either join it or you pay anywhere from 25K to 250K and/or go to jail anywhere from 1 to 5 years. Sorry, not such a good plan.

This is not fact - it's careless opinion.  For one thing the *penalty* is 2.5% of your salary IF you refuse coverage - and the jail thing I strongly suspect is more manipulation of the true language of that part of the bill.

On top of that they will destroy the health care system.

Your opinion.

They are incompetent with no knowledge of how to run anything. Take a look at Medicare,

Medicare works well for the most part - and part of Obama's intentions are to clean up the fraud.

VA

The VA stinks, I agree with you there.

The indian reservations health care system.

(I say give the country back to the Native Americans - at least they respected the land. :)

Those are all government run programs and they have destroyed them.

Exaggerated opinion.

Not to mention the post office

the post office is not government-run

and other non-health related agencies

such as?

I note you did not mention any 'government-run' entities that work well... do you think there are none?

With the Pelosi-crap-care, the quality of health care will deteriorate,

Really?  Because it has not even been enacted.  Sounds like an opinion.

the older you get the less fortunate you will be, and the quality of your care will deteriorate. Like England and Canada you will have to wait months and months if not years before you can get a test you need, but by then it will be too late and like a lot of people in England you will end up dying of the disease before you even are able to get the tests you need.

LOL- so many opinions, so little time.

Granted that some snively slimy politician sitting behind a desk with absolutely no knowledge of medical information will be the one deciding on whether or not he will allow you the tests/medication/treatment your doctor wants you to get.

Granted? Really? Granted? Would that be a slimy GOP pol or a slimy Dem pol?

Cost of GOP plan 61 billion

Maybe - I haven't checked it out.

Cost of Pelosi-crap-care 1.05 trillion.

BUZZZZ FALSE!  It's somewhere in the 800 billion range.  That's about 8 DAYS worth of war in the country du jour.

Don't be so concerned about "Pelosi's plan" - the Senate will decimate it and we'll be left with a watered-down, bare bones bill that Senator Fraud from Connecticut will not filibuster but Obama will still sign and the country will have SPENT tons of money for not much in the way of reform.

And to the degree the Democrats are quashing GOP input, shame on them.  I don't care WHO gets credit for the final bill - as long as it helps WE THE sick PEOPLE in the U.S.

What you wrote is your opinion - Tired of it all

Pelosi-crap-care plan is Government insurance. Government run. Which means politicians/beurocrats will be running it. People with no health care experience will be deciding what you can and cannot have for treatment/services/medication. You may not want to believe it and I'm sure Pelosi has convinced you that it's not true "those nasty rich white republican males are telling you lies. Don't listen to them, don't read their plans, just trust me".

We also know what the emanuel brothers thinks of us and his words of treating younger people because they have more "life years" ahead of them where as someone who is older (in their 60s) will not have a lot of "life years (i.e taxes they can take) so they will be disapproved for certain procedures/treatment/medications.

The GOP plan will allow people to buy insurance across state lines. What don't you understand about that. That is not an opinion. Just like any insurance you buy now, except you get the lower rate that someone in another state is paying. Sounds pretty straight forward to me.

3. $300 a year? Is that a joke? I didn't say a year, and anyone with enough sense knows that's not a year. $300 a "month". Actually it is more like a savings of $320 a month, but I rounded off. ($3,600 a year).

The rest of it I'm not going to answer. It was basically your opinion and you even said you have to research more.

The bottom line is this. It really does not matter what Americans want. Americans are speaking loud and clear they don't want a government-run Pelosi-crap-care plan. 85% of the country is satisfied with their healthcare and they don't want the whole system overhauled to take care of the 10% who want a change. The other 5% will be the people still without insurance.

Anyway...what it boils down to is that it doesn't matter what Americans want as we see some politicians are being bought (i.e. receiving money) to vote with the democratic government-run Pelosi-crap-care plan. It doesn't even concern you that it's so bad they won't even join. Americans are saying if it's so great why aren't you joining. No instead they put a special clause in the 2000 plus page crap bill that they will specifically be exempt from joining it. Now if that doesn't send a red flag up. And on top of that they ignore the questions people are asking "why won't you join", etc. Congress is ignoring the people and ignoring what is best for us. They are receiving money if they vote for the plan. And being called in to "behind closed door meetings" with Rham-boy, Celosi, and yours truly. Behind closed doors???? They are either receiving money to vote their way or being threatened.

But, they passed the spendulous plan, and now I hear they are talking about working on a porkulous/spedulous II. so nothing surprises me anymore.

I just hope enough people in the senate have a soul and truly care about the people they represent to not pass this bill. It will mean the end of our country.

From my viewpoint I was simply asking you questions about the plan and why you thought it was better - since clearly you had done more research on the GOP plan than I...

As to the point you answered, if memory serves you said premiums would be lowered by $300 per month or $3600 per year. Well my premiums are only $150 per month so that's why I asked the question. It seems like it must be a percentage rather than a flat figure ($300).

My post wasn't an attack on you but merely feedback as to what another reader got from reading it.

In the meatime I did read an interesting article at the Washington Post - it basically critices both plans but has much harsher criticism for the GOP plan. Of course that's just one source - when I research enough to see what the concensus is, I'll have a better idea of whose telling the truth.

I think you might have misunderstood me - Tired of it all

I didn't take offense and if it came off that way, my apologies. All I wrote was that was your opinion and I had mine. I wrote back to Smitty and had even said when it all comes down to it we don't have a choice. People on this board can get all riled (sp?) up about it all they want. It's not going to change anything. Politicians will vote the way they vote.

While some of us believe one plan is better, others believe the other plan is better. I don't think any of us will know until it comes out and we learn what the consequences are. But either way all I know is some politicians don't care what the American people want. They will vote whatever way they choose (usually through bribes or threats by bullies).

I do realize your post wasn't an attack on me, and I'm sorry if my post came off that way. All I was saying that everything we read is only our opinions. We all have them.

I think there is a lot of criticism in both plans. I don't like that the republicans in congress are being ignored as though they are not important. I think each sides ideas should be heard. And I don't think that calling a republican into a closed door meeting, giving him money for his district if he votes for the plan is what anyone can call bipartisan (bribed-partisan is more like it). One republican vote is not bipartisan no matter what crap they spew from their pea brains. But again that's just me.

So there was no offense taken of your post and my apologies if my post came off that way.

I specifically asked for her opinion of the GOP health care plan, and that is what she posted. She was simply responding to my question regarding her opinion.

Thanks Smitty - see message - Tired of it all

[ In Reply To ..]
Okay, Smitty - I never ever agree with you on anything, so want to say thanks. What I wrote is what I have read. Are they facts? Who knows. This is what I've read (and heard) the GOPs plan is. On the same hand I've heard and read what Pelosi's plan is and I honestly have to say I don't like their plan. It has nothing to do with who wrote which one, it has everything to do with the outcome and what it will mean for Ameicans like you and me. I'm living paycheck to paycheck and have absolutely NO money left over. I don't go out to eat, go to movies or anything because just never have the funds to do it. I haven't taken a vacation since 2003 and that was to attend my mom's funeral. I just don't have the money. So when I hear we are going to be taxed more it sends me into a "frizzy". What's worse is hearing people tell me I'm uncompassionate and selfish because I don't want to pay more taxes to give to those who don't have. Anytime I get money at Christmas I sent it to a Charity because I know there are worse off than me. At Easter and Thanksgiving I pick up some extra cans of stuff for our food shelter in town, but that's all I can do. And if they tax me any more I'm going to be the one needing food from the food shelter, etc.

So, I was answering your question with what I like about the plan and why I don't like the other.

To be perfectly honest this board could talk about it and argue it for the next century. It is not going to change how congress votes on it. I've seen people vote for things the American people do not want. I think most politicians are bought and bullied and all we can do is sit back and wait for the results.

I don't think it does anyone on this board any good anymore to argue about this because everyone believes what they do and all this arguing will get us nowhere because when it comes down to it, we don't have a say in the vote. We just hope and pray the right decision will be made.

You're welcome, Tired of it all! - Smitty

I could not stand by and watch you being raked over the coals for simply answering my question. We may not agree on a lot of things, but I totally agree with what you said about the meaningless of the arguments on this forum. We can discuss and argue all day long, but it is not going to change what happens in Congress. We can only hope that Congress does what is best for this country.

I may not agree with your opinion at times, but I always respect it!
Me too - you have shown me that - Tired of it all

There are actually two things in this article.  I am a believer in the second ammendment and a democrat.  However, I also believe there are people out there who should not own guns.  Perhaps this bill was vague (I haven't seen the actual bill), but I do believe people with severe mental illness with violence tendencies should not own guns. The other issue is the last paragraph:  "The goal of the rule was to minimize coal mine pollutants in waterways and would have requ ...

Some Conservative ThoughtsOct 22, 2009
If a conservative doesn’t like a news organization or a talk show host, he switches channels. Some Liberal Thoughts Oct 25, 2009
If a conservative doesn’t like a news organization or a talk show host, he goes on multiple chat boards and blogs and does everything he can to discredit them.
