Mr. Bean goes to israel...sm

Posted: Jul 29, 2012

Thus far, besides the fact that Romney has basically just thrown down the gauntlet to Iran (war..again..anyone?) and about half of the countries in the middle east is one statement in particular he made. In his speech he was talking about Egypt's new leadership and in doing so said, "Hopefully, this new government understands that one true measure of democracy is how those elected by the majority respect the rights of those in the minority."

No doubt the republican party thinks they are abiding by this motto as they slowly and steadily chip away at voters' rights here in the US...

....that this is a valid concern. Here in my state, the Powers That Be are all in a tizzy about preventing all this imagined "voter fraud," but they have been completely unable to demonstrate that there's been even a whisp of a problem with TRUE voter fraud here.

However, there ARE reports of numerous elderly folks in my city who will be kept from voting for the first time in their lives because they don't have the proper I.D. and either don't want to go to the trouble or are unable to get to the location where they would need to go through the process of getting a state I.D. card. The license station process is a huge nuisance in my area.

I for one don't have a big problem with requiring people to show some sort of I.D. to be able to vote, considering all the things we have to show I.D. for now, as it is; but it should be made easier for people, somehow. I admit--I don't have all the answers as to how, but it seems to me that the current hullabaloo over "voter fraud" is trumped up by some who DO want to limit those who they expect would mostly vote Democrat.

Right or wrong--that's just my opinion.

it's fun to imagine him mugging a big wink to punctuate his remark! After all, he would have the majority of Americans shoulder the cost of the huge dispensations granted to the minority of Americans who hold most of the wealth.

Pretty sure he did that when he put - check in the mail last week

so they could buy all the bombs, bullets, guns, tanks, helicopters and war planes their little hearts desire, support their "secret" nuclear arsenal, maintain the IDF, bankroll their occupying troops on the West Bank, build the wall, staff the intricate patchwork of a check points throughout the occupied territories, guard their ever shifting borders of containment, block humanitarian aid to Gaza, divert scarce drinking water supplies away from Palestinian neighbohoods and into Israeli swimming pools, expand the settlements, and generally carry on their business-as-usual war of attrition.

It's reassurance on the installment plan, to the tune of more military aid than any other country in the world has received from the US, who has never missed a payment, which are always right on time. You aren't seriously suggesting President Obama needs to go over there and hold his hand as well, are you? For the record, our "alliance" has NEVER been contingent on funding nuclear war games in the Middle East. Netanyahu is not the only player on the chess board. There are other Israeli leaders, past and present, who support continued diplomacy, both with Iran and with their surrounding Arab neighbors, AND there are other countries involved in the Iran nuclear issue besides the US and Israel. They would be hard pressed to put a coalition of more than 2 together for war with Iran.

Romney obviously only read the primer, then tried his best to serve as Bibi's mouthpiece. BTW, Netanyahu's approval rating among Israelis stands at 32% as of July 26.

Yep $3 billion a year in US taxpayer money to that tiny country. - me

According to Israeli daily Haaretz reports, under pressure from Prime Minister Yahoo, Romney cancelled a meeting that had been planned for months with Shelly Yachimovich, Bibi’s political rival and party opposition leader, a position on par with John Boehner and Mitch McConnell. He barely gave her a 2-hour notice of his intent to snub. Knesset member Yitzhak Herzog believes Mr Bean was deliberately led astray by “political elements who fear Yachimovich's growing strength." PM Yahoo’s heavy-handed and, at times, brutal treatment of his opposition is legendary in Israel, so mandating such a brush-off would be his standard MO. Whatever the case, either we have a Yahoo puppet in the making or Mitt decided meeting with someone who may not share his every political view would be just too hard. Either way, he comes out smelling like a wimp.

In the flip column we have him standing ready to “respect” PM Yahoo’s call to an all-out nuclear Holocaust in the Middle East, but over on the flop side, in a less publicized encounter, Romney told President Shimon Peres, he is sure that the Iran policies of the Obama administration ARE THE RIGHT ONES. Peres specified that meant stopping Iran’s nuclear program through the “least dangerous means.” You see, Peres promotes reconciliation with hostile Arab countries and diplomacy to resolve the nuclear dispute with Iran. No surprises there. Mitt is staying true to form, talking out of both sides of his mouth in accordance with whatever he thinks his audience wants to hear.

I shutter to think what kind of damage could have been done in countries less welcoming than the UK and Israel. I seriously doubt he would have planned to visit a former USSR ally had Poland not invited him. Hopefully, he won't call them "Soviets!"
I am really confused at his choice of countries to visit. - VTMT

How Would You Make A Bean Soup To Taste BetterJul 25, 2010
I'd like a vegetarian type bean soup.  I had a recipe that I followed but it tasted just blah to blech.  One of those I don't know whether I like it but its bordering on a "no" (if that makes sense).  I want to use swiss chard and garlic in it.  What I had originally done was cut some swiss chard from my garden, sauteed it in garlic and a little olive oil.  Then I added 2 cans of vegetarian vegteble broth, 3 cups of water, and 2 cups of canelli bean, salt and p ...

The recent hack of George Soros’ “charitable” giving revealed nothing new. Two-state Solution Has Been Offered By Israel Several TimesJan 01, 2017
Jordan and Israel were carved out of Transjordan in 1948. Palestine never existed as a state nor was it a part of the Middle East script. At one time during Bill Clinton's presidency, Arafat walked out when Israel offered a solution. They don't want to live in peace. They want to eradicate Jews. This does not include all Arabs living in peace with the Jews in Israel. The press never differentiates this. The underlying problem is that a two-state solution creating a national ...

Israel Didn't Just Spit In Joe Biden's Face Last WeekMar 16, 2010
Vice President Joe Biden's visit to Israel last week was rightly hailed as a catastrophe—but not because of settlements. After a tense year in which Washington had failed to stop Prime Minister Benyamin "Bibi" Netanyahu from settling more occupied land, Biden had come to shore up the relationship. Instead, officials in Netanyahu's government caught both men off guard by announcing plans to build more in contested East Jerusalem. True, that was a snafu. But the real disaster was w ...

Handling Of Iran Versus Israel In ISIS ThreatSep 30, 2014
Netanyahu did his best yesterday to equate Iran with Hamas with ISIS--now will the administration buy it and go back to protect Israel at any cost or are we going to negotiate with Muslim countries to defeat ISIS?  If we don't negotiate with Muslim countries for this objective, I think it will definitely take a land invasion to get this done (otherwise labelled World War III).  I don't think the rest of the "coalition" is up for that--just don't think they will show up. ...
