Michael Steele To Barack Obama: Stop Playing Golf Until Oil Spill Ends

Posted: Jun 22, 2010

This is sooooo stoopid!!! What do they want the President to do? I guess the President needs to sit at his desk 24 hours/day. After all, he can only handle one catastrophe at a time. I think our President needs to move his office and staff to a boat and park it next to the gusher. Hopefully, that will make people happy. I guess Republicans have forgotten how many days Bush spent at his Texas ranch.

Last week, it was an ad. This time, it's a statement from the GOP chairman. Over the weekend, Republicans advanced the meme that President Obama has played too much golf while the Gulf Oil spill has continued with a statement from Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele.

An excerpt:

As oil continues to spill in the Gulf and unemployment hovers at ten percent, the President can no longer take his eye off the "Oil".

While it is fitting and appropriate to look at the yachting activities of the BP CEO, with incredulity, it is equally incredible that President Obama finds himself on yet another golf course as oil continues to spew into the Gulf. Until this problem is fixed, no more golf outings, no more baseball games, no more Beatle concerts, Mr. President. The stakes are too high for President Obama's lackadaisical approach to both his responsibilities and the challenges we face.

Last week, the RNC released an ad criticizing Obama's schedule since the April 20 explosion of the Deepwater Horizon.

for Father's Day. After all, it was a day for family....but, I think O is showing a lack of interest in anything. He thinks being president is one big vacation except for all his press conferences.

Action is needed, not words. Maybe I'm wrong, but he should have overuled BP when they stopped LA, MS, and AL when they wanted to start cleaning up before the spill reached shore, but he didn't. So, now, it's an even bigger mess. Now the oxygen levels are being destroyed and the barnacles, mussels, and corral are dying. Do you know how long it takes for corral to grow?

Like Billy Nungesser stated, BP thinks they know it all but we lived here for generations and know more about tides, weather, etc.....than any oil company.

Watch the video I posted in my other message. It says a lot.

Is it safe to assume, then, that you were among the critics of O's predecessor when he declined to come back from his Texas vacation when New Orleans was wiped out? Or criticized him for spending 977 days of his presidency on vacation? I'm sure a web search of various archives will show the same people criticizing Obama's couple hour golf outings were equally critical of Bush's multiweek brush-clearing escapades because otherwise, it could lead one to believe that they've got some kind of double standard.

Hate to tell ya, but there is a double standard - Backwards Typist

and just wait. O's on a good course of beating Bush's record at the rate he's going.

I'm sorry, but I don't think any president should be playing when there is any crisis. They should be solving problems.

I still don't see why some people still bring Bush into these discussions. His presidency is over and done with 18 months ago. Maybe we should start bringing Carter into it. How about that?

And we're still not done hearing about all the evil that is Bill Clinton, so why would Bush get a pass after a mere 18 months if you still can't get the taste of Bill Clinton out of your mouth after 114 months?
I liked Clinton. Bush so-so. Liking O less and less as time goes by. - Backwards Typist

Clinton was popular.
Obama is slow in his decisions, too slow. It seems that he rather "lets it go," out of fear to make the wrong decision.
Like: Tomorrow I'll think about it,...tomorrow, tomorrow...

He seems always to sit "between 2 chairs."

Actually, he does.
I had the impression that if he ignored a problem it would go away.(nm) - Backwards Typist

President Obama’s Vacation Days

January 11, 2010

Q: Has President Obama taken more vacation time than his predecessors?

A: According to one count, Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush spent more time on "vacation" during their first year than President Obama did. Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton spent less time on "vacation."

FULL ANSWER

President Obama has spent all or part of 26 days "on vacation" during his first year as president, according to CBS News White House Correspondent Mark Knoller.

Knoller, who has covered every president since Gerald Ford and is known for keeping detailed records on presidential travel, counts the following among President Obama’s "vacations" in 2009:

A four-day holiday weekend in Chicago in February where the president played some basketball and treated First Lady Michelle Obama to a Valentine’s Day dinner date.

An eight-day stay with his family at a rented house on Martha’s Vineyard in August.

A trip out west to the U.S. states of Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and Arizona that combined both business and pleasure. The president held town hall meetings on health care during the trip. And he went fly fishing and took trips to Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Canyon with his wife and two daughters.

An 11-day stay in Hawaii where the president and his family celebrated Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

Some of the president’s recent predecessors, however, have spent more days — either entirely or partially — away from the White House "on vacation" during their first year in office.

President Reagan, in 1981, spent all or part of 42 days away from the White House "on vacation" at his home in Santa Barbara, Calif, according to Knoller. President Reagan and his wife, Nancy, also spent three or four days around New Year’s Day each year in Palm Springs, Calif., at the home of philanthropist Walter Annenberg. (In 1993 the late Mr. Annenberg founded the nonpartisan Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania, which is FactCheck.org’s parent organization.)

President George W. Bush spent even more time away from the presidential mansion in the nation’s capital than Reagan. Of the 77 total "vacation" trips the former president made to his Texas ranch while in office, nine of them — all or part of 69 days — came during his first year as president in 2001, according to Knoller.

Bush’s father, President George H.W. Bush, spent less time "on vacation" during his first year than his son, but spent more days than President Obama. According to travel records provided to FactCheck.org by the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum, the former president took six trips — spanning all or part of 40 days — to the Bush family compound in Kennebunkport, Maine, in 1989. The archivist at Bush’s presidential library told us she didn’t have a list of all vacations but did have the Kennebunkport visits.

But at least two recent presidents — by Knoller’s count — took less "vacation" time during their first year than President Obama — Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton.

Hillary Clinton Can't Escape Ties To Barack ObamaMar 16, 2015
WASHINGTON -- Hillary Clinton already has a running mate: Barack Obama. This makes Republicans happy, because there's no easier line of attack (or mechanism for fundraising) than saying a Clinton victory would amount to a continuation of the current presidency. Nearly every communication from the Republican National Committee about Clinton's candidacy hammers on that point. “America deserves better than a third term of the Obama-Clinton policies,” said RNC Chairman Re ...
