I have heard that perhaps McCain needs to step down. Odd that this Board was not updated yesterday on this.

Could it be because he's not on the Intelligence Committee? - backwards typist

Isn't this a closed meeting and only the members of the Intelligence Committee are to be there? John McCain isn't on this committee.

I know you don't like it, but it is true. From the article referenced:

"The classified briefing was held on Wednesday before the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee – of which Senator McCain is a member – and lasted three hours."
Are you so fixated on cherry-picking a scandal out of - Congressional hearings that
[ In Reply To ..]
you've become oblivious to how many other committees, cabinet members, elected and military officials are privy to national security briefings? Doesn't common sense dictate that the Senate Homeland SECURITY and Governmental Affairs just might be among those? Senator McCain made a fool out of himself. It wasn't a senior moment. It wasn't a scheduling glitch for which job-loss-fearing office staff scapegoats were willing to take the fall. It was a senior GOP Senator caught up in the latest right-wing hate machine campaign to discredit the legitimacy of the president and his administration, who have currently placed UN ambassador Susan Rice in their cross-hairs. They are bent on achieving this objective at any and all costs, including destroying the reputation of a diplomatic rising star their ranks are incapable of producing, and placing their own credibility on the chopping block in the process. You have been one of that effort's most dedicated foot soldiers, so I am quite sure you understand exactly what I'm talking about.

You gave me the members of a different committee. - backwards typist

[ In Reply To ..]
You gave the members of the Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs Committee, not the Intelligence Committee that I gave.

"The Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs is the chief oversight committee of the U.S. Senate. Formerly known as the Committee on Governmental Affairs, it took on primary oversight responsibility for the Department of Homeland Security in 2003 and has long focused on the issue of violent Islamist radicalizaton and homegrown terrorism."

I thought that the Intelligence Committee was the only one involved. Why Homeland Security is involved, I don't know.

Hope you have a good day at work. :-)
she gave you the members of the committee for whom - the briefing was held (!)

Reading the article posted by the OP would clarify your misapprehension of the facts.

Give it up. If he's not a member, why did his office attribute - his embarrassing faux pas to

a "scheduling error" in response to the barrage of press inquiries they got in its aftermath? He is a MINORITY member of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs.

Don't have time to play the acceptable link game of fetch with you. Whether or not you want to accept reality that's well documented in Congressional Records is not my problem, it's yours.

In a word... - no

[ In Reply To ..]
the briefing was held for the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee, of which McCain is a member.

Thank you to you and the poster below you (YD?) - backwards typist

I asked a question and you two gave a polite answer and for that I thank you. I didn't know that info and it's nice to have someone answer without the attitude as seen daily in posts by some.

Nope, you are wrong - SM - YD

"Doesn't 'Ex Officio' mean no longer an official?"

Nope, doesn't mean that at all. It means a member by right of office. John McCain is an automatic member of the Intelligence Committee by virtue of his being the ranking member of the Armed Services Committee. He is a member of the committee but has no vote.

No End In Sight For U.S. In LibyaMay 18, 2011
The United States is now deep into a seemingly endless, aimless war in Libya, through NATO and in its own right. The rebels against the government of Moammar Gadhafi, based for the most part in eastern Libya, are deeply divided and largely unable to take advantage of the NATO military support they are receiving. Western military advisers are also on the ground. They find the rebels undisciplined and disorganized in their efforts to advance militarily to take towns that Mr. Gadhafi's forces ...

There is already talk about the "liberation" of Egypt, even though the biggest change there has been that a one-man dictatorship has been replaced by a military dictatorship that has suspended the constitution. Perhaps the military dictatorship will be temporary, as its leaders say, but we have heard that song before. What ...
