Liberals and Romney's Taxes

Posted: Aug 1, 2012

First of all, liberals don't understand that no one BUT liberals care about what taxes Romney did or did not pay as long as he complied with the tax code that was in force at the time he filed his taxes.

It has long been a very well-established principle that no one is obliged to pay one cent more in taxes than the law requires - and LIBERALS make better use of that principle than anyone.  In fact, there are plenty of liberals who take, shall we say, "questionable" advantage of the tax laws.

Obama's campaign is hoping that everyone in the country will forget that ALL of us are both obliged to follow the tax code AND that no citizen is obliged to pay ONE CENT MORE IN TAXES THAN THE CODE LAWFULLY REQUIRES.

Second, I'd love to get a gander at the tax returns of the wealthy liberals from Hollywood and Gawd-helpus who contribute to the Obama campaign.  I'd love to get a gander at ALL of the tax returns of EVERY LIBERAL MEMBER OF CONGRESS.   I'd love to get a gander at ALL of the tax returns of EVERY COMPANY THAT HAS RECEIVED MONEY UNDER THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION - AND GONE BANKRUPT.

So here's the deal, libs.  You can continue to talk about tax returns, but it's a LOSER, just like Obama's record is a LOSER.

If I were you, I'd start biting my fingernails and grinding the midnight oil trying to figure out how you're going to explain OBAMA, and not Romney's tax returns.  If Mitt obeyed the tax laws, NO ONE CARES.

;

Amen and amen - but it's all they've got. Remember the advice below - and be kind to the libs.

A post pointing out about someone responding quickly or slowly.

But since you posted it's pretty simple. A person reads the board, sees a message, hits the reply button, writes her message, then hits send. Nothing weird about that, that's how all the posts work.

And that is where you are sooooo wrong. Of course I'd like to make sure Romney's taxes were on the up and up. However, what most middle class people see are the fact that in the one year he has released, his tax DEDUCTION for just his horse was more than most people even make in a year. It's kind of hard to make yourself out as someone who can empathize with the middle class in a situation like that.

Also, if he paid no taxes, or even less than that 13% that he suddenly has amnesia about, what does that say about his policies which would only increase tax cuts for people like him and put the responsibility of paying all the taxes on people like us.

I'm sorry but neither political party - Trigger Happy

[ In Reply To ..]
has really done the middle class any huge favors. Under both parties it seems like the middle class has been continually beaten down.

If you have an issue with Romney deducting a horse on his taxes, then perhaps the problem is the tax code and not Romney himself. Who doesn't take deductions when they can? We all do.

As for those tax evading politicisn...please go to this link and read up. Might find some interesting info.

It is the tax code that's the problem!! - ZvilleMT

[ In Reply To ..]
I cannot understand for the life of me why the politicians aren't jumping all over each other to overhaul the tax code - that would be a winner with everyone!

Here's another thing I don't understand - If the Bush tax cuts only helped the wealthy (which has been a big talking point), why is it such a big deal to let them expire? Wouldn't that take care of the problem?

I would ask the following question: - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Why do you think the Romney campaign regards disclosure of his tax returns to be a liability?
Probably for the simple fact - Trigger Happy
[ In Reply To ..]
that just like any other American, he uses all the deductions he can and I'm sure many on the left will wanna crucify him over those deductions...just like they can't get over that stupid horse they deducted. Rich, middle class, and poor take any and all deductions they know about and can take. Why wouldn't they? I know my husband and I do.

The problem is the tax code.

So many are speculating that there is something unlawful in those tax returns and yet there is currently no proof of that.

You gotta admit that the screaming and yelling the left has done over that horse just proves to Romney's campaign that if there are any other deductions like that, the left will rip into him and not let it go. Taking deductions like that are well within the tax code.

Simply the tax code...close loopholes and no one will be able to take deductions like most politicians have.

Is empathizing with the middle class really that important? - ZvilleMT

[ In Reply To ..]
I mean, I don't think you could name one single politician that could honestly empathize, or sympathize, with the middle class or with those trying to make it to the middle class. We all know they're all stinking rich - I don't think we really should use that as a criterion for voting for them or not.

As for the percent of taxes that he paid, what's the big deal about his deductions? I work from home, so I take as many work place deductions as I can, even down to buying paper and toner for my printer. Several times that has made the difference between my owing taxes and getting a small refund. Is that fair? No, but it's the tax code, which again leads me to the conclusion that it's the tax code that needs fixing because it's definitely broke.

But why would you... - (see message)

...."love to get a gander at the tax returns of wealthy liberals from Hollywood...." if "no one cares" about what taxes a candidate for president did or did not pay?

I don't have much doubt that Romney followed the letter of the tax law on his returns. I may be naive, but I really doubt that a HUGE percentage of taxpayers cheat on their taxes. It's too risky, and the penalties if caught make it just not worth it.

I do think a lot of voters want to know, however, if Romney has paid $zero in taxes, as it can tell us something about whether he can relate to "regular" Americans like us. If a candidate has deductions for multiple homes, tens of thousands in horse "sport" expenses, and tax shelters that encourage foreign investors to be able to avoid paying OUR country some extra revenue that might help us, then I think people DO want to know about that.

If "no one" cares about the tax returns, as you say, then why not just release the doggone things and put all the suspicions to rest?? Not releasing at least as many as Obama has sure makes it seem like Romney is afraid that a lot of people DO care.

Why are those demands not made - Conservative

[ In Reply To ..]
of 5 billionaires Obama has in his cabinet? They are helping to formulate policy. How can they possibly relate to "regular" Americans? Why not Pelosi, who knowingly made millions based on "insider" information she received while formulating and passing laws "regular" Americans have to live by? Why not Chris Dodd, who commited bank fraud and got a total walk? Why not Barney Franke who is responsible for the economic downturn in 2009? What about Franke's boyfriend who openly ran a prostitution ring from Barney Frank's apartment? What about Tax Evader Geithner who was given the money to pay his taxes and pocketed it? All of the above were illegal tax dealings commited by Democrats and they all got a free pass by their buddies and Obama administration. You want to talk about fair, start with them and then come back and boohoo about Romney LEGAL deduction for his horses.

Because none of these people are running for - PRESIDENT. nm

Notice how the libs REFUSE to look at - Obama Hollywood supporters that took

[ In Reply To ..]
huge cuts in their taxes because they listed their land/enterprise as "farming" when they actually make their money from the entertainment industry. Bon Jovi, HUGE Obama supporter paid a whopping $ 104.00, despite his property being worth millions by gaming the system; all the while REAL farmers get screwed. Then there's Spike Lee. And let's not forget ole Warren B who has spent literally MILLIONS to avoid paying taxes, and Barbara Streisand.

Have never seen a Dem or a Lib yet that was not a hypocrite through and through. You see it all over this board with their hatred. Must have very pathetic lives to be so consumed with hatred.

jumping the shark... - ctmt

[ In Reply To ..]
How you got from Bon Jovi to "pathetic lives...so consumed with hatred" is beyond me.

I am certain that Obama supporters are not limited to one city, so your perseveration on Hollywood is curious.

The inequities in the tax code are apparent to (almost) all of us. Pointing them out just reinforces the big question so many of us are asking: Why won't Romney release his tax returns?

If Spike Lee, Barbra Streisand and "ole Warren B" rub you the wrong way, one might wonder 1) how Romney has escaped your wrath and 2) who ARE the hypocrites, anyway?

Pssst...don't tell the liberals....Mitt Romney is rich. Also don't tell the liberals that Americans know it and don't give a hoot.

And for a guy who has been probably thinking about this job for many, many years, I doubt he is stupid enough to not pay taxes. This is classic Cloward-Piven. It's actually almost kind of fun to watch -- so predictible.

let me surprise you... - ctmt

I don't believe Mr. Romney has cheated on his taxes. I happen to believe that whatever tax he paid was almost certainly within the letter of the law. And this is the point: By law, YOU pay a greater share of your income in taxes than Mr. Romney does. What is apparent is that Mr. Romney and his advisors regard this disclosure as a liability.

As for no one but libs caring about this issue, witness 20 republicans: http://thinkprogress.org/election/2012/07/17/530121/15-prominent-republicans-who-want-romney-to-release-more-tax-returns-right-now/

Congress is poised to clear the final $50 billion chunk of emergency aid for Superstorm Sandy relief Monday — and in one vote, it will have used up all the new tax money President Obama won by raising rates on the wealthy in the “fiscal cliff” deal.
