It was a true pleasure to see such a large group in support of many of the basic tenets of the Democratic party. Some were even driven to tears.

Where was James Woods anyway?

I constantly hear people on the board accusing that the liberals are all worthless, welfare seekers and that there aren't very many who could possibly believe that stuff anyway. I would say there was a whole program celebrating them last night!

haven't found anyone particularly offended, but I don't watch/read particularly conservative stuff.

I think it was actually just another case of liberal humor. Since Sean Penn has been the butt of many conservatives' criticism, he's not one to miss a chance to take a poke back. Remember when Penn went to New Orleans and helped rescue victims of Hurricane Katrina while the government was nowhere to be seen? He was criticized mercilessly by conservatives for all manner of things in that regard.

When I heard his green card comment, I laughed out loud, knowing he was making a liberal immigration-type joke and teasing his friend while digging at conservatives. It's not a big secret that conservatives were rooting for Clint Eastwood and "American Sniper" to take home the big one, and making fun of what he thought their reaction would be to a Mexican winning instead, saying:

"Who gave this __________ his green card?"

It was liberal humor and a poke at his friend and conservatives all at the same time.

"Inarritu joked that after his three wins on Sunday night, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences might institute a residency requirement. His win in the best directing category marks back-to-back wins for Mexican-born directors; last year Alfonso Cuaron won that honor for 'Gravity.'"

Take Clint Eastwood, for instance, now there's the model of conservatives and their ilk. Before Clint was the guy prattling away at no one-- hashtag empty chair, he had seven children with five different women, some of whom he actually bothered to marry. I heard something about a child number eight, but that was just a rumor-- hashtag American Sniper, hashtag wooden baby. I heard he also showed up to the Oscars with his youngest daughter, but that was also just a rumor -- hashtag old man young girl.

Family values, I tell you.

At least we aren't supporting HIS illegit kids - as opposed to....

Anyone with two brain cells to rub together knows that the Director of American Sniper, one of the 8 nominated films for Best Picture--the biggest award that is handed out by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences--is totally off topic and "completely irrelevant."

Clint Eastwood is great! Hashtag. I wouldn't say he's the "model of conservatives", hashtag. He is just hashtag - a conservative. It looks like his empty chair speech really got under the nerves of - hashtag - a lot of liberals. It was a speech - hashtag - that was well presented. Who cares - hashtag - how many kids he has or with who. I know many people who have multiple kids by different people and a lot of them - hashtag - are liberals. That's - hashtag - his personal life - hashtag. And nobody should be criticizing Eastwood's personal life when - hashtag - their model is Billy Clinton hashtag. So if there is a hashtag "rumor" that is known to be a rumor (aka false) then there is no reason - hashtag - to spread the false rumor when you even said - hashtag - that it was false and not true - Hashtag. So I could say Billy boy fathered 10 children by 10 different hookers in every state, "but that was just a rumor". It's - hashtag - obviously a false allegation, so why plant false information - hashtag. He didn't show up to the Oscars with his daughter, - hashtag - it was his girlfriend. But that was already known - hashtag. Which, by the way, she is stunningly beautiful and they looked very happy together. - Hashtag. And honestly they don't look too far different in ages (as if that really matters - they are in love). Clint is in his 80s, old is a frame of mind and he appears to be younger than his age and his girlfriend is not a young girl.

Clint is a true patriot of the country. With movies, directing, writing, music composer. Too many films to mention. He served in the US Army. He is a true artist and patriot in every way. He is loved by all people he works with and throughout the country and people have said he makes everyone "feel comfortable and valued treating them as equals."

But I do love how he gets under the skin of some and the personal attacks and lies about him are hysterical to watch.

It's amazing that people will stoop so low to plant false information hoping others will believe it, while at the same time admitting that it's false in a round about way (but hey, lets just say it anyway, maybe someone will actually believe it). It's also disgusting someone tried to insinuate Mr. Eastwood is, what's that saying..."dirty old man" by posting "old man, young lady".

What was wrong though was it was a post trashing someone who is conservative, yet the post was not political. It was a disgusting display of hate towards a person who happens to be a conservative. Guarantee you this...if Mr. Eastwood was a democrat and he did an empty chair routine about President Bush they'd all be cheering saying the speech was the greatest ever told.

I never cease to be amazed at how conservatives are unable to put things in context. For instance, the Clint Eastwood post was a response to a response to a response to the OP. Follow along with me, please.

I wrote the post, and I am a huge Clint Eastwood fan from way back. Paint Your Wagon is one of my absolute most favorite movies. I actually couldn't care less what political party Clint belongs to or who Clint is dating, what her age is, or the 7 kids he has had with 5 different mothers, whether in or out of wedlock (facts are facts). In my opinion, Clint's empty chair speech ranks right up there with one of my all time favorite convention speeches, whereas one of Bill Clinton's speeches (which I sat through in person) actually was one of my least favorites, not for the content but for how looooooooooooong that speech went on and on and on. Incidentally, just like Clint Eastwood or Sean Penn or Neil Patrick Harris, I couldn't care less about "Billy Boy's" private life either. I try not to lump anybody into categories and paint them with a broad brush and label them and put them in neat little boxes based on their political ideology or lifestyle, which was exactly the point I was trying to make with that post.

Your post was not political. You also put false information up there (i.e. rumors) that you stated you knew were not true, yet you tried to plant them in there.

Why not discuss the clothes they wear? My post was largely made in response to conservative posts trashing a liberal for the clothes he wasn't wearing and criticizing liberals and "their ilk." I guess I could have gone after Rudy Giuliani's love of dresses, but then Rudy G. wasn't exactly at the Academy Awards ceremony, was he, and Clint Eastwood was there and so handy. I used humor to point out that conservatives who want to attack liberals for their behavior or lifestyle choices have no room to talk, yet the conservatives want to keep hammering away at the point that Eastwood is an "American Patriot" and is being unfairly criticized by liberals.

Now hear this: Liberals do not care about the facts of Clint Eastwood's life story or lifestyle.

Rephrasing for effect: The majority of liberals actually love Clint Eastwood but find him an all-too-easy and convenient target to use when conservatives start their trashing of Hollywood liberals and their "holier-than-thou" and "party of family values" unending and patently false line of rhetoric. Little Known Fact: Ronald Reagan was once a Hollywood liberal.

One more time to bring the point home: Liberals who watch conservatives' incessant lies about President Obama and hear the name-calling and rumor and speculation and just downright trash, filth, and false information tossed around regarding the President of the United States are now laughing hysterically to see that whole scenario played out in reverse.

If they actually say something that's understandable and not some inside joke nobody know about then maybe we would understand what they think is so funny.

Making fun of a person because they are a conservative, or because they have multiple kids, or because they have a younger partner who really isn't that much younger than they are just is not funny.

My post was a response to conservatives making fun of liberals and "their ilk," which is not the least bit funny to me either, but that hasn't stopped anyone from doing it, nor do I have an expectation that they ever will. I think it's safe to assume that as long as conservatives poke fun of liberals and "their ilk," and vice versa, there's going to be a chance that someone from either end of the spectrum is going to respond in kind.

If you change the word "conservative" to "liberal" in your last paragraph, it sounds exactly to me like the Fox News Entertainment agenda, a very good place for conservatives to go to have their worldview validated that operates exactly the way you just described, except it plays out ad nauseam 24/7/365.
