[ In Reply To ..]This speech given in 2007 was Bush explaining about the surge and how Iraq was at that time unstable for withdrawal. Bush explained that he would be consulting military leaders on a longer plan of withdrawal.
Bush said: "I will rely on General Petraeus to give me his recommendations for the appropriate troop levels in Iraq. I will discuss the recommendation with the secretary of defense and the Joint Chiefs of Staff. I will continue consultations with members of the United States Congress from both sides of the aisle. And then I'll make a decision.
I know some in Washington would like us to start leaving Iraq now. To begin withdrawing before our commanders tell us we're ready would be dangerous for Iraq, for the region and for the United States. It would mean surrendering the future of Iraq to Al Qaida."
Fox News pulled these comments from Bush's remarks where he was saying that he was going to have the "commanders tell us we're ready" to avoid allowing "terrorists to establish a safe haven in Iraq." Bush said he would "make a decision" about the withdrawal process after consultations with military leaders, which Bush then actually did do and signed the Status of Forces Agreement setting that recommended withdrawal date as 12/31/2011.
This is now a fairly poor attempt by Fox News to take some words from the speech Bush made in 2007 about the surge and repackage those words to make it appear as though he is some kind of Nostradamus. LOL. I watched many, many press conferences of W, and I remember the majority of them being him saying frequently that "you'd have to ask _______," and he'd then explain how he was a poor student (see link for example). He frequently looked pretty ignorant on a regular basis and basically confirmed he was, in fact, clueless.
So attempts to now make Bush look prophetic when this is the guy who said the U.S. would be greeted as liberators are a laugh riot. He was so prophetic he had also declared that same war "Mission Accomplished" many years earlier, 'member that bold prediction? Too bad for Bush those cameras got a lot of footage, and the lame attempts at rewriting history are actually bringing back memories that painfully remind me just how totally clueless and completely ignorant he frequently seemed to be.
