unemployment rate based on the number of people collecting unemployment is crazy. There are people who are eligible and never apply for benefits, as well as people whose benefits expire (as is happening now), people only working part time, and independent contractors who are not eliglble for unemployment benefits but nevertheless are not working. I'll bet it is really at least double the reported rate. 9.8 percent is nothing! I though I secure in my job, a valued employee. Ha!
I intended this to be a totally nonpartisan post, just making an observation as I am walking the walk and struggling to survive with no real job or hope of one, as are other people I know.
I don't know the answer, but a lot of people are really suffering, even in my state where the unemployment is less than 6 percent. It doesn't help, rather hurts, when you are one of the 6 percent. I wonder what the unemployment rate is among MTs.

On top of that, I'm semi-retired having lost my job too. Our unemployment rate is the same as the country. It was over 10% a couple months ago and as high as 11%. The only jobs here are for nurses and general laborers where you have to lift up to 50 lbs and that let's me out since MT'g ruined my bod. My age doesn't help either. Let's just say I'm not a young 'un anymore. Even though I think and feel like I am only 20, my body soon lets me know different. :-(
