Wow, so it happens on both sides...and yet no progressive on this board chose to post this article....so I thought I'd step up and do my part to educate members of this board.

Deal could not even stick around long enough to cast his vote against HCR, since the ethics committee was getting ready to announce their findings. That cloud was about to erupt into a full-blown thunderstorm, but he got outta Dodge just in the nick of time.

[ In Reply To ..]Investigations on taxpayer dime usually are not launched in the absence of evidence. The House Ethics Committee was due to release their findings "any day" at the time he resigned. You can read all about it here. The last link provides 6 more links at the bottom of the article.
This is a no hypocrisy zone. His actions speak louder than his words, given these cicumstances, but facts tell the real Deal story.

I'm sure Nancy was in a hurry to "drain the swamp," especially since some of her closest colleagues were among those being investigated, such as Murtha.

Why are you so fixated on Rangel? The investigation started on Sept 24, 2008. The report was released on Feb 26, 2010. It lasted 17 months, not a couple of years. The process of discovery was staged and protracted because it was thorough...the way it should be. Once the report was released it was DEMOCRATS who pressured him into stepping down. He is on leave (probably a face-saving gesture due to his 50 YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE COUNTRY), has been replaced and is not likely to ever resume that post.
Mitch McConnell, on the other hand, is as shady as an antebellum Spanish-moss draped oak, yet he holds the highest minority position in the Senate, is not under investigation and is still up there directing traffic and grinding it to a screeching halt, isn't he?
Here is a link to a 12-page report on what is not being investigated by the Senate Ethics Committee regarding McConnell. Before slamming the link, CREWS is a nonpartisan group that also reports on democrats. I put it in the URL box as instructed so you wouldn't have to do my work for me.
Unlike Rangel tax stuff, Mcconnell's violations hit taxpayers directly in he pocketbook. The amount disclosed just in this one report approaches half-a-billion dollars. Some of the highlights would be such topics as:
1. Gordon Hunter Bates and the Bates Capitol Group LLC-A tale of bedding down with countless lobbyists who cough up plenty of dough when campaigns roll around.
2. The E-cavern project, funding for which was rejected by the state legislature, but a favorite pet of McConnell's, garnering more 5.5 million in earmarks on 7 separate occasions between 2003 and 2008. Naturally, he gets pretty kickbacks from them in campaign contributions and they collude with Bates Capitol for lobbying services.
3. Boardpoint LLC colludes with Bates Capitol in similar 2.1 million earmark and campaign contribution kickback scheme.
4. Voice for Humanity-23.3 million in earmarks with campaign contribution kickbacks to promote some weird overseas prodemocracy, anti-HIV/AID propaganda scheme in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and North Korea.
5. Appriss, Inc/VINE-involves 17 million in earmarks, subsequent no-compete contracts in 10 states with campaign contribution kickbacks.
McConnell Center for Political Leadership-refusal to disclose donors names, in violation of a Kentucky court order.
6. Acceptance of bribery involving this familiar earmark kickback pattern and his political leadership foundation.
7. The oxymoronic Honest Services Fraud (my favorite).
8. Illegal gratuities.
9. Senate Rule prohibiting Improper Conduct
10. BAE systems earmarks-361 million in earmarks with kickbacks. Under DOJ investigation for bribery.

I also provided any pub curious enough to actually inspect the link to bring this very issue to light, since I do not pretend that corruption is only a one-way street. On that we agree. However, I find your response predictably disappointing, as I was hopeful any pub curious enough to open the link might also be willing to go one step beyond the tiring usual O slams and actually open a dialog aimed at the real subject...universal corruption in politics.
