Clinton

i never have, nor will I ever like Bill Clinton.  But I'm glad he's okay.

However, does anyone else wonder if Hillary is saying "darn it Bill, would you die already?"

;

No, I do not think so. I always liked Bill, in spite of the Monica-story.... - IMO

To lose a 35 year partner and friend would devastate anybody. - what kind of question is that?

[ In Reply To ..]
I feel quite certain that the kind of history THIS couple shares transcends any and all adversity or scandal they may have encountered and endured along the way. They are both strong people with strong wills, and they evidently both have the will to weather the storms and stay together.

i could not agree more with your reply. Hillary - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
got so much support, especially from women, when this Monica story emerged, and women applauded her for staying with Bill. I admire Hillary, also regarding her career, and I think that they truly love each other. and that Hillary is very sad about her husband's health problems.

Ya know.... - Trigger Happy

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm sure she has had fleeting moments of wanting to suffocate him by holding a pillow over his face.....however, when you've stuck with someone that long.....even through all the crap Bill has put her through....I'm sure she doesn't really wish death upon him.

No, I do not think that - she needs him - see message

[ In Reply To ..]
She would be nothing without him. She used him to get what she wanted. She soaked up the "poor Hillary" routine everyone gave her. As for Monica, don't people realize that everything was planned and for a reason. HC knew all along what type of man BC was and she used it to her advantage. She is one evil cold calculating female species. I don't think she has a warm bone in her body. Everything she does (plans, calculates) is for a reason. If something happened to him she would fall away and be forgotten (or at least I would hope so).

I didn't like BC because of what he did politically wise while in office. But truth be told I really had no issues with him being with Monica. I don't think anyone blamed him (or at least nobody I know blames him). After all he deserved to be with someone who would make him happy. I really didn't care. But I did care that he lied about it. I would have had more respect if he came out and admitted it.

Even though they've been together a long time, I do not think she'd be devastated, but I do think she would be sad.

Women who are intelligent and whose brains - cold?

[ In Reply To ..]
control their emotions are often characterized as cold and distant.
I think that the brain should control emotions, otherwise one becomes hysterical and blows everything out of proportions.

I think that Hillary has proven that she is smarter than Bill, and I bet that Bill thanked Hillary a hundred times that she did not leave him.

What is Bill's legacy? Mostly: Monica

Powerful successful women often depicted as cold, calculating. - Whoops. HC biog says otherwise...

[ In Reply To ..]
Who are you to define what marriage is or is not? Please note the HC quote below which I have included as her direct statement on her love for her husband. To attempt to reduce the loss of a 35 year partner down to momentary sadness is mean-spirited and not grounded in a shred of evidence. Despite conservative's best efforts to demonize her, she has managed to rise above it all and accomplish great things.

HC first attracted national attention in 1969 when she gave the commencement speech at Wellesley College. If you read the speech, it will become evident that she was destined for leadership years before she ever laid eyes on BC. She was clearly motivated by the protests and struggles of the times and determined to pursue her political agendas within the institutions of the law. She declared her professional independence from BC at he marriage ceremony by announcing she would be retaining her maiden name for that express purpose.

Over 50 books have been written on her political accomplishments. Addressed here is the HUMAN side of her life work. So what were those early interests of this alleged cold and calculating female species?

1. Cofounder of the Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families non-profit organization.
2. Chair of Legal Service Corp, nonprofit that ensures equal access to legal services for all.
3. Chaired Rural Health Advisory Committee on behalf of rural poor access to health care.
4. Led a task force for educational reform in Arkansas, including mandatory testing for teacher competence, raising standards for curriculum and classroom size, preschool literacy preparation.
5. Chaired American Bar Association Commission on behalf of women in the profession.
6. First woman chairperson on WalMart board, where she advocated environmentally friendly practices and glass ceiling initiatives on behalf of women in management.
First FLOTUS to hold a post graduate degree with her own professional career. She assumed an active role, reminiscent of Eleanor Roosevelt, and sought to expand its parameters.
7. Architect of health care reform, an elusive pursuit still sought after to this day. One has to ask, is it STILL too much, too soon?
8. Major player in the establishment of the S-CHIPS health insurance program for children.
9. Advocate of childhood immunizations, mammograms, prostate cancer and childhood asthma research, Gulf War syndrome studies.
10. With Janet Reno, established the Office on Violence Against women within the Justice Department.
11. Advocate of Adoption and Safe Families Act on behalf of children with special needs.
12. Advocate of Foster Care Independence Act, extending Medicaid benefits to former foster children, ages 18-21.
13. Hosted conferences on Early Childhood Development and Learning, Children and Adolescents, Teenagers and Philanthropy.
14. Spoke at the fourth World Conference on women in, on behalf of Afghan women under Islamic rule, and on eliminating the separation of women’s right from human rights.
15. Contributed to the creation of Vital Voices, promoting women’s participation in politics worldwide.
16. She reaffirmed her commitment to her marriage in the face of the Lewinsky scandal, which the conservatives unsuccessfully tried to ratchet up into impeachment. That garnered her 70% approval rating at the time.
17. As NY senator, Special Committee on Aging.
18. Investigated health issues of 9/11 first responders.
19. Family Entertainment Protection Act.
20. First woman to secure nomination for POTUS.
21. Global Hunger and Food Security Initiative.

So let’s see now. Her focus has been on children, families, poverty, health, education, women’s rights, human rights, equality under the law, the environment, domestic violence, philanthropy, again, global hunger, literacy and (guess what?) HER MARRIAGE.

In her commencement speech, and again during her tenure as FLOTUS, she publicly examined the meaning of being human, which she revisited at the dawn of the new millennium. This indicates to me that nothing happened between age 22 and now to change her basic philosophies on life or her preoccupation with this core issue.

As for her marriage, no one can speak to that better than HC: "â€Â¦a love that has persisted for decades. No one understands me better and no one can make me laugh the way Bill does. Even after all these years, he is still the most interesting, energizing and fully alive person I have ever met."

HC was, is and always will be a progressive woman. These snipes once again boil down to so-called traditional values expressing themselves in their typical uninformed and ugly manner. No amount of trivializing this remarkable woman’s remarkable accomplishments will succeed in reducing her accomplishments down to a salacious sex scandal and its aftermath. One of the most unforgivable acts she did was to set a very high standard of accomplishment for women politicians. This is the same standard by which SP will be measured (good luck with that) one). Deal with it.

Only a very few ways BC is remembered:

1. Youngest state governor at age 32, a job he kept for 10 years.
2. His two terms represent the longest peacetime economic expansion in American history.
3. He left office with a 236 billion dollar surplus and a 68% approval rating, having reached his all-time high rating of 73% directly following impeachment proceedings.
He was among the 18 selected in Gallup’s List of Widely Admired People in the 20th century.
4. President of the Czech Republic bestowed their highest honor on him as a member of the Order of the White Lions (similar to knighthood).
5. First white person inducted into the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame.
6. Honorary doctorate of Law from Tulane University, University of Michigan, University of North Carolina, and University of Hong Kong.
7. Honorary Doctorate of letters from Pace University’s Lubin School of Business, Rochester Institute of Technology and Knox College as well as an honorary doctorate from McGill University in recognition of his devotion to social justice in the world.
8. Honorary Chief of the Logohu, bestowed by the PM of Papua New Guinea.

I could go on about the awards and accolades he has received by you get the idea.

He’s not done writing his legacy. I believe his most important work has been and will continue to be in his post presidential years. The William J. Clinton Foundation goals include energy and climate change, harnessing innovation, global public health, strengthening infrastructure, poverty alleviation, building human capital, mitigating religious and ethnic conflict, education and financing an equitable future, sustainable growth, disaster relief.

It is preposterous to assert that he is a nobody without HC, just as it is to say she is nobody without him. Accomplishment defines them, not petty political slams.

[ In Reply To ..]
that Bill Clinton has raised over 54 BILLION dollars for various organizations all over the world . . . oh, and there's the two female reporters that he very diplomatically managed to get released from NK . . .
no, it's not enough, raising money is in another category! - what? sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Do you imply that it should be forgotten because he raised 54 billion dollars (is this even true?)

All what Bill did afterwards was only an effort to clean his reputation.
Ever heard of that Biblical concept called redemption? - BTW, are you suggesting that..
[ In Reply To ..]
raising money to alleviate hunger, famine, disaster aid, HIV/AIDS, public health, poverty, education and all the other foundation activities is not humanitarian work?

BC does his work quietly and out of the glare of public scrutiny. He could have chosen a lot of other things to do with his time, but he choose this work. Says a lot about who he really is. These are his retirement years, after all.

What you remember or forget is strictly up to you, but it takes a pretty small minded person to say that all he did and all he continues to do should be forgotten because of a sex scandal and an unsuccessful partisan witch hunt that ended up in failed impeachment proceedings. Get over yourself. No amount of smut is going to detract from the legacy he has built and continues to build.

Speaking of legacies, what sort of redemption has W sought since 2008? Any attempts to achieve greatness other than align himself with Bill Clinton in Haiti? You do remember the deer in the headlights photo op a couple of weeks back after he agreed to be a part of that effort, don't you?

salacious

â–¸ adjective: suggestive of or tending to moral looseness ("Salacious limericks)

Is this how you characterize Bill? "A salacious rooster of a little man?"

He did it, isn't it, he reminds us of what he did, lol !
Having trouble understanding a 15 word statement? - Lets break it down for ya. LOL....

Mo writes: what comes first to mind when mentioning Bill? Monika!

I rely: I suppose that for those (meaning Mo and all who share her knee-jerk sex scandal reaction) who have a penchant for the salacious (yes, I chose the word very carefully), that is where their minds would take them.

THEN I constrasted that to the rest of us who choose to focus on human excellence.

What this means is that if you keep your mind in the gutter, then it will stay in the gutter. The sex scandal and failed impeachment proceedings happened decade before last, yet we still have people determine to obsess over it any chance they get. For 20 years before that and for 12 years since then Bill Clinton has accomplished greatness that is born out every single day of his life by his acts and deeds.

Folks with salacious mind sets who choose to focus on the sex scandal in an attempt to trivialize his accomplishments only end up succeeding in trivializing themselves.

Got it?

Im ready when you are. Lets compare life accomplishments of HC and BC to the witch hunt troop. You could save yourself some time by realizing that dragging up tired smut retreads will not succeed in overshadowing the good these two have done over the past 35 years.
You are the salacious one, you are defending and even advocating it as "human." - BC

Simply saying that alleviation of human suffering on many levels - more important than scandal.
[ In Reply To ..]
When you get to the pearly gates, what if you were judged strictly on your worst action? My thinking is in line with the judge not lest you be judged/greater good proposition.

Would you judge Mike Duvall, Paul Stanley, Mark Sanford, John Ensign, alan Berlin, Bruce Barclay, Matthew Elliot, Robert McKee, Daniel Thompson Derek Walker, Robert Allen, John Atchison Ozwald Balfour, John Bryan, John Curtain, Donald Fleishman, Larry Floyd, etc, etc etc by the same standard? Seriously, I really could go on and on and on with this list.

Before answering, remember that among pub sex scandals we find an inordinate number of child porno cases along with a whole cacophony of sex crimes.

Shouting, throwing fits and building mountains of smut is not going to change the legacy of his achievements nor the global respect and admiration they both hold. Don't you get that?
I guess you missed the part of "salacious" referring to those of you - Really?

that glean pleasure out of becoming focused on non-issues, rather than give credit due to someone for the great good they have done . . . sound familiar? You have learned to play your team's nasty little games well, I see.
