ChickFilA policy change: No more $ for hate groups AND

that explicitly forbids gender-identity-based discrimination.  Today the company has put into writing, for the first time, that its employees are to "treat every person with honor, dignity and respect — regardless of their beliefs, race, creed, sexual orientation and gender.... our intent is not to engage in political or social debates."

Score one for the home team and for minority rights, and kudos to the CFA honchos.

Did the company have discriminatory practices?

No, it's not a change - in their policy.

While BuzzFeed attempted to get a reaction from Chick-fil-A representatives, a spokesman refused to confirm or deny the story. Instead, the outlet received a statement that is reminiscent of what the food chain has said numerous times before.

“We have no agenda, policy or position against anyone. We have a 65-year history of providing hospitality for all people and, as a dedicated family business, serving and valuing everyone regardless of their beliefs or opinions,” it read. “The genuine, historical intent of our WinShape Foundation and corporate giving has been to support youth, family and educational programs.”

Evidently they felt it was enough of a change - to merit a press release, and

the funding review/withdrawal is definitely a change. According to an NPR report, a company spokesman said they wanted to get out of the "social issues business." The report also specifically mentioned the Family Research Council's hate group designation by the Southern Poverty Law Center as a factor. Look's like the board may have taken Dan Cathay to task over the ongoing boycotts which by now must be impacting their bottom line.

Well, then, if NPR says it's true... - sm

...we know it's their liberal-slanted editorialized view that they are reporting. Saying "Family Research Council's hate group..." is proof positive that NPR is not objective.
Excuse me. NPR is only one source I checked. - I mentioned them because

I heard it on their radio broadcast, so I read several articles and they are all saying the same thing. Specifically, CFA will no longer be funding the Family Research Council or the Alliance Defense Fund, as was reported in my original link.

Personally, I would not expect cons outlets to report of this since it represents a defeat for their cause, as it seems to be for you. BTW, it is a fact that FRC has been designated a hate group by the SPLC. It is not biased for NPR to report that fact. If you need to read a "sanitized" version of this story, go find your own source.
Agreed! Any news organization - SK

The inflammatory description has been well earned - by FNC, whose

well documented history of anti-gay initiatives fall well within the criteria established by the SPLC. CFA themselves made reference to them. NPR reported it. Get over it. They have decided to reverse their position. I commend them for their thoughtful approach to the same dilemma being played out in the foreign policy arena where defense of freed of hate speech collides with universally accepted concepts of common decency and human rights for all populations.
Right. On a lower plane, they were surprised, and appalled, at - some types who rallied to their message.NM

Chik-fil-A response - backwards typist

"When ABC requested clarification from Chick-fil-A on the policies Moreno claims are new, the company re-sent a statement from July, when the controversy over it’s traditional marriage support first erupted.

“The Chick-fil-A culture and service tradition in our restaurants is to treat every person with honor, dignity and respect -regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender,” Chick-fil-A spokeswoman Tracey Micit said in the statement. “Going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena.”

Along with re-evaluating funding to anti-gay marriage activist groups, Moreno said Chick-fil-A has agreed to amend its corporate policy to include sexual orientation in its anti-discrimination policy.

Please note the highlighted paragraph. I have googled and have not come up with one bit of proof that they did this. I did notice that a blog on Boston.com stated this info came from TCRA (The Civil Rights Agenda). Huffpo also picked up the same story word-for-word, as did other blogs, but not on the news side, and they all cite TCRA as their place where they got the press release.

The Chick-fi-A site press release has not changed since July. Unless they change it in a day or two, then I put this story down as hogwash, especially after what Cathey when through back in July. I think TCRA is just trying to drum up more trouble for Chick-fil-A.

and because of what ABC stated, I don't believe it happened.

If CFA comes out and changes it on their website or it can be verified by a RELIABLE source, I will not believe it. Sorry, but that's my opinion and I'm sure it will be the opinion of many other people (not necessarily on this board).
Why would they update their website or release a press statement about a - COMPANY DOCUMENT?
[ In Reply To ..]
Did you read the link I posted before... the press statement from TCRA? Here... I've added caps on the parts to pay close attention to:

Additionally, they have sent an INTERNAL MEMO to franchisees and stakeholders that states that as a company, they will “treat every person with honor, dignity and respect-regardless of their beliefs, race, creed, sexual orientation and gender” and that their “intent is not to engage in political or social debates.” This statement was placed into an OFFICIAL COMPANY DOCUMENT called “Chick-fil-A: Who We Are.”

So, because a company hasn't published a copy of an internal memo online and/or done a press release about an internal memo, the story is a lie? Okay.

This press statement is over the hub-bub over Chicago trying to prevent CFA from starting up there. Remember Rham saying CFA's values are not Chicago's values and all that good stuff? The press release was regarding negotiations between CFA and Ald. Moreno. And, as far as drumming up trouble... they're allowing CFA to open in Chicago. Again, how is that starting trouble for CFA?

Just because CFA hasn't made a statement, that does not mean that it did not happen, that Moreno is lying, or that TCRA is lying, and obviously something DID happen in order for Moreno and TCRA to change their minds about CFA.

Also, don't hold your breath waiting for CFA to make a statement. They want everyone's money... gay folks and the bigots who lined up in support. If they make a public statement saying how they've backed down on "standing up for their rights," they're gonna have a lot of really bent homophobes not eating their chicken.

Where is your proof they ever discriminate or refused - to serve anyone? There is none !!! nm

where you do your part, no matter how small, to help the company succeed and profit, and you find out that they are turning around and donating to antigay groups... including a HATE GROUP that lobbies against gay rights... how is that NOT discrimination?

I know what you mean - like working for a company

[ In Reply To ..]
that donates to United Way when a portion of that goes to organizations that I don't agree with, like those who perform abortions. If you opt out from contributing to the company pool, you're hounded until you do so the company can claim they had 100 percent participation.
