"Breaking: Two Explosions in the White House and Barack Obama is injured."AP Twitter accou

Posted: Apr 23, 2013

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A tweet by the nation's largest newswire about a catastrophe at the White House was nearly immediately shot down as false on Tuesday.

The Associated Press message read, "Breaking: Two Explosions in the White House and Barack Obama is injured."

The group Syrian Electronic Army, behind previous hacks of the BBC and CBS News, claimed responsibility for the false message on its website.

It totally started to tank! Glad AP quickly realized what was going on so it could correct itself. So sick of these stupid hackers!!!

I'm even MORE sick of the stupid stock market. - We should never have bailed it out.

The stock market is where stocks are bought and sold (much of it on line these days.) There are a number of markets (exchanges) among them the NY stock exchange, and the Nasdaq.

You see, stock prices go up and they go down. All sorts of variables affect the price of stocks, some variables based on hard facts and some based on human nature. The momentary price of stocks is sometimes an inexplicable thing, sometimes quite understandable.

If it appears there is going to be economic and social turmoil, as there might be if there was a terrorist attack on Washington, a lot of people might decide to sell their stock in fear the price of stocks will go way down, and so with more sellers than buyers, prices will go down -- at the same of course, others will decide it is a good time to take advantage of the lower prices and decide to buy, and stock prices will rise again.

Don't let the ups and downs of the market worry you if you are not in the stock market, these swings are probably not going to affect your life in the slightest. You won't get laid down because your company's stocks go down in value temporarily unrelated to the prosperity value of the company, and you won't get a raise if they go up a bit temporarily unrelated to the value and prosperity of the company. Sometimes stockholders just don't keep their heads. They are just people, after all.

Your job will depend on the soundness of your company, not the temporary fall in price of a stock because of bad news, especially if that bad news is completely unrelated to the company you hold stock in. For example, had this horrible news been true, and your stock was in a company that manufactures pharmaceuticals, the actual value of your stock will be unchanged, as the demand for the company's product (medical drugs) will be the same.

If you are an investor, especially if you do your own investing, then of course you should pay attention to current events but you are probably a lot better off even then not worrying and panic selling, based on the day's bad news, and instead make your decision to buy or sell based on the soundness of the company and the value of the stock in relation to the value of the company, and of course looking at long term trends, the bad news may in fact be good for the company you are invested in, and you would be very foolish to panic sell (for example if your stock was invested in a company that manufacturers products used by the military.)

In short, please don't do this to yourself. Stop being "sick of the stock market," any more than you are "sick of the supermarket." It is just a market, and the Dow Jones is just a snapshot of what is going on in the market based a sample of 30 blue chip stocks listed on the NY stock exchange.

Maddow, Olbermann Invited To White House Chat With ObamaOct 22, 2009
By Chris Ariens on Oct 21, 2009 12:58 PM Here's a curious turn in the White House vs. Fox News fight. On Monday, MSNBC's Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow were among several people who attended an off-the-record briefing with Pres. Obama at the White House. Sources tell us other attendees at the two-and-a-half hour chat included Eugene Robinson of the Washington Post, Maureen Dowd of the New York Times, Gwen Ifill of PBS and Gloria Borger of CNN. "From our family to yours, may your holidays shine with the light of the season," reads the inside of the card, which is signed by the Obamas (including Bo). Palin characterized ...

What are your thoughts on Michelle inviting Common to the White House? I don't know the guy and know nothing about rappers, but from what I'm hearing, this is causing a big stink. I can't figure out why she would invite such a controversial person. Even though it's 2011, we're still litigating whether rap music in and of itself is a societal corrosive or an artistic expression that channels raw experience and expurgates emotions in the form of a catharsis.
