A question for the liberals on this board

I am not stirring anything nor am I trolling. If the only reason you choose to reply to this post is to stir the pot or to troll, please do not waste my time or yours.
Now, for the liberals on this board, I have a question: Is there a definite distinction between true liberals, who want progress as far as our culture and society (equal rights, environmental responsibility, etc.) and the rabid youth who have been rioting, looting, and causing untold damage to others and to property?
I think there is, however, as I've been a lifelong moderate conservative, I want the honest answer of those who consider themselves liberals.

[ In Reply To ..]Like you, I am pretty moderate, I would say conservative fiscally and liberal socially. I do not align myself with any particular political party. So now my answer - In my circle of friends, there are very conservative people, very liberal people and pretty much everything in between, large range of ages, as well as straight and gay. What we all have in common is that we all want to live a good life and want that for our fellow citizens as well. We just have different ideas on how we think that can happen. This makes for some very lively debates during backyard barbecues, but never do we resort to name calling, insults, etc. We respect, and actually enjoy, our differences. So in answer to your question, even though I cannot answer from a truly liberal point of view, based on my personal experience, I can say that I do believe there is a very definite distinction between the 2 groups of people you describe in your post, and thankfully so.

All my liberal friends do not engage in violent protests but rather sign petitions, write letters, contact their congresspeople, etc. Youth is simply a time for protests. It's unfortunate that they sometimes turn violent but they can also accomplish some great results, e.g. civil rights legislation, the eventual end of the Vietnam War (great if you believe the war was unjust). Most of these students, in a few years, will probably be living middle class lives and express themselves in peaceful ways. Also, as I said in another post, there are peaceful protesters and there are the criminals who follow along taking advantage of the situation to be violent, loot, etc. I don't think you can lump them all together the way it's been done on this board.

[ In Reply To ..]I think both sides, conservative and liberal, want what's best for everyone. We all just need to come to an agreement as to what that is and how to achieve it. I do agree peaceful protesting and petitions are the way to go. I guess I just feel there's an undercurrent that is undercutting everything.

[ In Reply To ..]I was raised democratic. Our family fell into the unconventional category. Struggle. Blue collar community (miners). I refer to these people as "progressive globalists" who work for George Soros. Agenda is investor protectionism and cornering financial markets is their scheme.

[ In Reply To ..]There are moderate liberals just as there are moderate conservatives, please don't judge liberals as the people who are rioting in the streets, many of them probably don't know why they are there and are just trying to make trouble. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren are 2 liberals who come to mind who work for the public good. Each political party seems to have a fringe element that makes them look bad. I've been a lifelong Democrat, also raised in a working class family and Catholic, so very concerned with human rights and social issues. Most of us are not radicals, we just have a different view of what we think is fair and just. There are bad apples in both groups.
