in 90 day probation period at new job

Posted: Sep 11, 2011

i've started a new job just a couple of weeks ago but feel that me and the company are just not a good fit.  I have never been in this situation before, but do I owe them 2 weeks or 1 week notice at this point?  My understanding is that in the 90 days, if either they or I feel that it's not working out, I can simply resign and walk away when I do so.  Is this the way it is?  Has anyone had this experience and if so, how did you tell them without causing static or angering them?

for the record; this job is nothing like what I was lead to believe it would be and the salary offered is not adequate, considering that is turning out to be a lot of heavy physical work, on my feet all day, and a lot of OT that is basically has me working for much less per hour than initially anticipated and 9+ hours a day.  They keep trying to assure me that it will "eventually calm down", but in speaking to ppl who have been there longer, apparently it will not and this is about "normal"...

Input would be highly appreciated.  Thank you.

A 2 week notice is never a requirement, it is a courtesy. I have given 2 week notices and I have given 1 month or more notices and I have left without any notice. It all depends on the employer and how loyal I am and how much I care about burning/imploding that particular bridge.

If you have something lined up right now, tell your employer and ask that they let you go immediately. Be very honest with your supervisor about why you feel it is not working out for you and the job is not a good fit. Any supervisor worth their salt will understand and won't want someone working for them who is not happy. If you explain that you have something else lined up, they probably will agree to let you go right away, as they won't want someone with "short timer syndrome" around. It could go either way - some employers want people to work out a notice, but others just cut them loose right away.

I wouldn't worry too much about causing static or angering them - you're leaving the job. If it's of short enough duration, I never even put those on a resume, so no one would ever have to know about it. Your only responsibility is to your well being and your pocket book. If neither of those are being taken care of, you have to find a situation that will.

I would leave now w/o a notice and leave it off my resume.

I would probably give notice because - I would not want someone to

quit on me without notice, but that's just me. It is up to you to decide what the right thing is for you.

Odd PeriodMay 12, 2012
I hope someone has some advice.  My period is ususally 3-5 days early.  This month, it was 11 days late and so far (day 2), it's not really a period, it's more like a brown mucousy discharge. I'm 49 and my husband has had a vasectomy (14 years ago). I highly, highly doubt I'm pregnant, but I've never experienced this.  Is it preimenopause? Should I see my doctor?  Thanks. ...

Period ProblemsMay 31, 2011
This may be too much info for some of you guys, so sorry in advance! My period is normally a very heavy flow with terrible cramps and lasts 6 to 8 days.  Lucky me, I know.  Last month it was normal (well, what I consider normal for me).  This month it was like 1 day of spotting and that was it.  I did have a bit of cramping, but this is not normal for me.  I haven't had sex in a couple months and my period last month was normal so I doubt I am pregnant. Any ideas? ...

Period Shamed? Not This Person. Putting ItAug 10, 2015
Just read about a woman who was to run the London marathon. The night before she started her period. She thought she could either wear a tampon or go without, to do so because she claims there is "period shaming." She went without. She said also did it for all the women around the world who do not have the products when they have their period and also she thinks some do not talk about it because of shame. I saw a picture of her after the race with her blood soaked pants. I have no idea what othe ...

Shortly after President Donald Trump addressed a Joint Session of Congress for the first time since taking the oath of office, CNN's Van Jones called one particularly moving moment from the speech the real estate mogul's most presidential to date. Less than an hour after Trump honored the widow of a slain NAVY Seal, the Democratic commentator suggested that the commander in chief had officially begun to look the part. According to author Leo Tolstoy, born at the very end of the Little Ice Age, in quite a cold country: "The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he already knows, without a shadow of a doubt, what is laid before him."
