So sad in Colorado

Posted: Jul 20, 2012

What a sad day for many in Colorado.  You go to see a movie you have been waiting anxiously to come out and someone goes psycho and kills a bunch of people.  They said he bought a ticket and then propped the emergency exit door open to get his guns and bring them back in.  Aren't those emergency exits suppose to have alarms that go off when opened?  This whole things is just so senseless!  My heart goes out to those many families that are now suffering.

I would be crying if I had to transcribe some of those reports - nm

What I don't understand...... - Anon

I know this is rated PG13, but actually has excessive violence, blood and guts to have an R rating. So please tell me why are these parents bringing small children, many of whom were only 2 or 3-years-old. I also have heard that a 3-month-old baby was killed. This showing was at midnight, was it not??? So what in the world are these parents doing out with their small children?? Maybe I am old-fashioned, but in my family we would never take small children to this kind of movie. You really have to scrutinize these films and probably should watch the previews and read reviews in newspapers and on-line. Since the movie industry keeps changing the standards or criteria used for their ratings, we cannot go by this alone. Parents need to take a more active stand in what their children are watching.

They have studies that have proven too much violence in a child's life will de-sensitize him and he will become confused as to what is reality and what is fantasy. I know my own grandchildren play video games most of the time, some of which I think are way too violent. It is alarming that they do not understand that death is final and you do not just get back up and fight again like in the video games.

I know I am going on and on, but this subject really upsets me and we keep seeing the effects of too much violence in these children's lives. What does it take to stop this craziness??? I am not sure anymore.

I totally agree that kids should have never been there - cindy

It is midnight, anyone under the age of 16 should have been home in bed, not in a movie. The one was a 4-month-old baby and her dad was holding her and when the bullets started flying, he bent forward to cover the baby in his lap and her head got stuck between the seats in front of him, but the baby, her very young brother, mom and dad are all okay, but agreed that neither of those young children should have been there. The youngest person to die was a 6-year-old girl, who again, I do not think should have been there.

I too do not get it. When I was a kid, my parents were very involved in what movies I was seeing and if you were under the age of 17, you did not see movies like that. Of course when I was a kid, that would have been rated R.

You also made a good point about the violence kidsd are exposed to. Think about it, the shooter dressed like and called himself the Joker. Makes you wonder....
I agree that young children out late is inappropriate - but the victims

The innocent victims should not be blamed, IMO. And lots of things can impact the psyche through brain development, but to allow crazy people to buy assault rifles is just wrong.

There is no reason for anyone to own a gun that can shoot a zillion bullets a minute.
There is also no reason - cindy

anyone should have to buy more than one gun every six months to a year. There should be a limit on the amount of guns you can buy in a short period of time and if there is really a good reason why you need more then it should have to go through a review process where a waiver can be issued after hearing the case.

Before anyone gets all up in arms about your right to bear arms, remember that is the constitution which was written in the times of the settlers and when this country was first "born out of England" so you needed guns back then to hunt for food and protect your family against possible wild animal attacks, etc. I really think that gun laws need to be revised to keep up with the times and technology. For instance, why would anyone need bullets that can pierce body armor? Have you ever seen a deer wearing a bullet proof vest?? My brother and I have had many talks about this, as he is a cop and sees the senseless acts that happen with guns.
It is ridiculous to blame this on the movie....at all. - I am no Batman fan, but

apparently, neither was the shooter. Even I, who am not into Batman AT ALL, know that the Joker's hair is green and not red. Just an excuse to call himself the joker and all kinds of people buy into it hook, line and sinker. As far as guns to, I have a few...probably more than you would find appropriate, but I can guarantee that the only person I am going to ever shoot is the one who wishes to do me harm. There is no reason that someone should not be able to buy as many guns as he/she desires. One nutcase shoots up a theater and people want to take away everyone's guns and search your purse on the way in to watch a cartoon. Can anyone else say "knee-jerk reaction?"

Headed To Colorado On Vacation - Need IdeasMay 10, 2012
My hubby and I are taking two full weeks off and heading to Colorado on our Gold Wing motorcycle in July. We live in Ohio so we are either going to head north through Michigan and the UP to go to Mt. Rushmore on the way (or on the way back depending on what July weather brings). We will be going through Wyoming, S. Dakota, Colorado and are hoping to get to see the National Arches in Utah (the average temp there in July is 90+ so that may not happen!). We are going to see the sand dunes on Colora ...

Prayers Go Out To Colorado Massacre Victims. Jul 20, 2012
Upon awakening this morning I turned on news and could not believe what I was hearing.  I thought at first maybe this was the anniversary of Columbine shooting.  Then on further listening and waking up, I realized this was entirely different setting and present day.  Tragically enough, 12 had died at a theater in Aurora, Colorado while watching Batman sequel Dark Knight Rising.  Strangely the audience in theater thought this was part of the showing and were not alarmed at fir ...

Colorado's First Pot Rally Marred By GunfireApr 22, 2013
Only two wonded, thank heavens but now that marijuana is legal in Colorado, they want other laws regarding marijuana repealed? What's wrong with this state? Seems like the tokers don't want to follow ANY laws. The two paragraph in that article that really caught my eye and truly disgusted me are these: Lopez and a number of other leaders of the legalization movement said they remain unsatisfied with what they consider the limited scope of Measure 64, which along with forbidding consu ...

Colorado Students Protest Against ConservativeSep 26, 2014
Apparently the school board decided to institute a revisionist form of history books and the KIDS are protesting.  Seems the teachers are not too happy with this school board either.  "They waved signs declaring, “It’s world history, not white history,” and talked about Cesar Chavez and the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Leaders of the walkout urged others to stay out of the streets and not to curse, and sympathetic parents brought poster board, magic markers an ...

Colorado Supermax Town To Obama: KeepNov 13, 2015
Islamic terrorists have no scruples about slaughtering schoolchildren and that's what worries the residents of Florence, Colorado, when they hear the president talk about transferring up to 61 Gitmo prisoners to the Supermax prison in their small town. It should also concern the prison towns in Kansas and South Carolina that the administration is considering as terrorist depositories. In recent years, Muslim radicals have taken two schools hostage, causing the deaths of 318 schoolchildre ...
