How do I go about signing myself in to a

mental hospital? I want to do this and am just so scared about what will happen. If you would like to answer me via email, that is fine. I just need some kind of answers.

If you have a primary physician, talk to him or her. If you have a psychiatrist, psychologist or other type of mental health professional talk to him or her. If you are having an immediate crisis (suicidal, homicidal) call 9-1-1 or go to the emergency room.

When is your appointment? Do you feel any danger present i.e. harm to yourself or others? email me if you need/want, I may have some helpful answers though I'm still a student in this general field, do have things to contribute.

A relative asked her doc for a referral, I drove her there, she was under great stress. What you should be prepared for is that as a precaution they will ask you to not take certain things like mouthwash or anything that contains alcohol, anything you could hurt yourself with, sharp objects, etc. This is because they handle all sorts of cases and it's for your protection. Don't let this intimidate you. Bring something pretty to wear, a good book and an attitude that you're being brave to do the right thing to get better. Although you sound a little frantic now, it could be that the person you see today will recommend outpatient therapy and support rather than hospitalization. He/she might be able to redirect you to options you hadn't even considered! Either way, a professional should have your best interests and safety in mind.

It's always uplifting to take affirmative action rather than allowing overwhelming circumstances to steal your joy. Best of luck to you!
